Popular Post roger101 Posted January 16, 2024 Popular Post Posted January 16, 2024 Does anybody think the new Central Meridian and u-turn places have made Theprasit Road's traffic run smoother and safer since it was built? I know I don't. 1 1 2
Popular Post richsilver Posted January 16, 2024 Popular Post Posted January 16, 2024 Absolutely! I can often drive the entire length of Thepprasit without stopping once. I could never do that before the improvements. I think it is much safer, although less convenient for those needing to turn into destinations along the way. I do think they went a bit overboard with all the lane markings however. 1 1 1
scubascuba3 Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 I think it's safer. Inconvenient? yes with the lack of U turns. Thepprasit has always been too fast, people turn off Sukhumvit and continue the same speed as the road was so wide
Popular Post Havefunme Posted January 16, 2024 Popular Post Posted January 16, 2024 It's not the road that makes it safe or unsafe it's the people driving on it . 1 1 1
Popular Post bbko Posted January 16, 2024 Popular Post Posted January 16, 2024 IMO it's better than having every Som Chai stopping wherever they felt like to make a U-turn. Plus the Thepprasit night market is less chaotic when the cars exit. Now if they could only deal with all the cars double parking in front of whatever shop they feel like cause they are too lazy to properly park a few doors away. 4
Swiss1960 Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 It's NOT an improvement except for the (for now) smoother surface. But the ridiculous signage changing from 2 lanes to 1 are dangerous, specially for motorbikes 1

Popular Post Guderian Posted January 17, 2024 Popular Post Posted January 17, 2024 In six months' time, say, I'd love to see some accident statistics before and after the 'improvements'. I've lived on Soi 8 for over 12 years and turning right onto Thepprasit is a lot more dangerous than it was before. You've got the through traffic, which of course has the right of way, and then cars on Thepprasit travelling both east and west that want to turn right, and some of them also want to do a U-turn. Then you have the traffic from Soi 8, the busiest of all the side-roads on Thepprasit, wanting to turn right, with the usual 1,001 motorbikes zipping in and out. At least before, traffic could turn right wherever they wanted, which may have inconvenienced drivers who don't know the road but hardly affected those who know it and are prepared. Now, instead, all those vehicles wanting to turn right are funnelled into a few U-turn locations with the resulting predictable bedlam. I don't know a single local resident, Thai or foreign, who thinks this is an improvement. 2 2 1

First reply up above seems to think it is. I haven't used it myself, I continue to avoid the road due to it's prior reputation. Although as a passenger to and from immigration it seemed to move better.
quake Posted January 17, 2024 Posted January 17, 2024 Yes, it is better. But you need to be very careful at the fruit and veg market entrance. As people are now coming the wrong way out the market, and heading up the road the wrong way, going to the next U-turn. heading to the Sukhumvit. Naughty buggers. 1
Henryford Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 I think it is much worse than before. I dread using it now. What was the point of the traffic lights at Soi 8. The one time they used them it was chaos. No they just blink orange, how much did that cost?
mr336 Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 Can someone explain the yellow markings? It’s a wild road for me before and after construction. Well they’re all wild I guess. The buses need to go.
peter zwart Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 its a bit better but i would help if they also activate the traffic lights.

The volume of traffic at that crossroads is way to much for traffic lights . A roundabout would be the most fun. can you just imagine it. game on. 1 1 1
