They also punched the man to force them to transfer the money. The two were released unharmed.

Think punching him counts as harmed.

Police in Phuket have launched an investigation after a Belarusian couple were allegedly kidnapped for a crypto currency ransom valued at US$900,000 or around 30,000,000 baht.

Officers at Mueang Police Station are currently questioning 4 Russian suspects suspected of abducting the Belarusian man and woman. However, as the Russians don’t speak English, interpreters have been brought in.

Police were first notified after a foreign national witnessed a man and woman being forcibly dragged into a car outside the O-OH farm shop in the sub-district of Talat Yai at around 10pm on January 31.

Interesting how Thailand attracts so much scum of society and so many foreign criminals, isn't it. I wonder if it's because the country is known for it's lack of law enforcement

Russians free 90 day stamps on entry where the rest of  Western world countries have to show their money in the bank, health insurance etc, etc.  Flood gates opened Oct. 2021 - short term thoughts of money, now long term effects of a desperate people......maybe Authorities should re-think and get things right again.......

I already found that out several years ago, and left there for that reason, was there recently but came to the conclusion that things have not improved.
Don't expect any improvement either, especially with all those Russians.

No, because of visa free entry and visa on arrival for so many countries in the world.

I wish it was much stricter like Singapore for example. What do you think?

Yes, absolutely.

Visa free entry and visa on arrival should be completely stopped except for 5 or 7 respectable countries like Japan, Singapore, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, etc.

Nationals of other countries should apply for entry visa in their home country before entering Thailand.

That couple obviously told the wrong people about how much crypto they had,

Meaning cancel the free 90 day, Ruskies can apply for the 90 like the majority of other countries and at the same time reducing the ever increasing Russian behavior complaints. Get that 600,000 ( Phuket ) down a little.........

Your bigotry is just as malevolent a force as any behavior on the part of the Chinese or Russians. Leave Thailand, we don't want or need people like you.

Easy to get visas, weak law "enforcement" (the only thing the law does here is "respond after the fact"), and an entire culture and infrastructure catering to sex-for-money... is there really any wonder?
