Fish n chips

Featured Replies

It's only 8am and I feel like fish n chips today

May I ask is there any place that sells the potato scallops?

Similar to the Aussie type

I went to a wonderful place yesterday called Tinnies pies that sold wonderful pies but the impeccable service and cleanliness of the place was what I describe in my wonderful words of wisdom as .... beautiful.

But I'm after a genuine if I may use that word...in fact the word "specialist" ....or maybe another word to describe  a place who only sells fish n chips

I did see Sharples in Jomtien yesterday,it didn't appear to have any customers

Many if you recall in your fine years far far long ago we had Simon's , we had the Jolly ..Roger ? Fryer?

What happened to the British fish and chip shop?

Aussies run V8s and eat meat?  Must be decent folk.

Just about given up trying to find good FCs

Best of an average bunch for me is Hemmingways in Jomtien, but ask for a hot plate, or they will serve it on a cold one

can't match those in the UK because the ink on the newspaper wrapping is different.

I think that died out in the 70s, followed by plain paper, then boxes

The price of fish and chips in the UK now is rather hard to swallow (excuse the pun!).  Our local is over twenty quid for one large chips and two cod.

Location was in the post he quoted and I'm another who would back it.

I remember then ,did you have vinegar on it in the UK?

I know the English like this mushy peas something I don't like

Witherspoons on Soi Buakhao is pretty good and they do a smaller version for those with less of an appetite.

Potato scallops/fritters are known as specials where I come from. The ones on Soi LK Metro are small but tasty.

The English vary, i liked a lot of salt and vinegar, plus onion or gherkin. Over here it's just a poor imitation so best left as a good memory

Every Friday is "Fish & Chips" day in Pattaya. Always Fish & chips specials at Nicky's, Witherspoons, Hemmingways and Frasers to name a few

Yes it seems every restaurant is on the fish and chips now

I thought going to a specialist place would be better but it may make no difference

Be great to find something here that looked like that

You could try the international hotels websites in case any of them serve fish and chips on a particular day.  Obviously more expensive if there is, but I reckon they'd make a better job of it than the regular outlets in Patts/Jomtien.

Also, a traditional UK fish and chip shop will have salt (sometimes pepper) and vinegar on the counter as free condiments. Tomato/brown sauce, mushy peas, curry sauce etc., are extra. Other side orders can include pickled eggs (truly evil), pickled onions (very nice), fish cakes, sausages, saveloys and pies.

A UK fish and chip shop will also serve a range of fish and not just cod (including fish roe - again, truly evil stuff). My Thai wife loves rock (cue the jokes) and invariably opts for rock over cod, but we don't have it too often because it's so expensive now.

Yes it would, i chose a photo that closely resembled what i used to buy in UK.

Last time i had that in Glasgow 2019, fish supper £4, yes £4, hard to believe now, even included Irn Bru 555
