86 Year Old Thai Man Murders Friend Over 'Lack of Respect'

In a tragic incident in Udon Thani, Thailand, an 86-year-old man has been arrested for fatally stabbing his friend following a heated disagreement over respect.

The altercation took place yesterday in the Ban Non Hua Chiang Community in the Nong Han district. Local police were called to the scene around midday, where they discovered 49-year-old Anan Kongchang with a fatal stab wound to his chest.

Police detained the suspect, Jampa Hasook, who was found intoxicated at the scene and unable to flee. Jampa confessed to the stabbing, citing a lack of respect from the victim as the motive.

"I bought him alcohol, but he didn't respect me. He insulted me, so I stabbed him. For a man, honour is everything," Jampa reportedly told police.

The two men had been drinking together since early morning along with another companion, 69-year-old Choosak.

Reports suggest that tensions escalated after Anan complained about Jampa, leading to the fatal attack. Specifics of the complaint have not been disclosed.

Choosak, who tried to intervene, suffered minor injuries in the scuffle but was unable to prevent the tragedy due to his own inebriation. "I'm saddened and shocked that our drinking gatherings could end in such violence," he remarked.

The deceased’s sister, Nuanchan Kongchang, expressed disbelief over the incident, explaining that her brother had never previously been involved in conflicts with locals. She pinned the blame on alcohol for triggering the violence.

Police have charged Jampa with intentional murder under Section 288 of Thai Criminal Law, which carries severe penalties including the potential for life imprisonment or even the death penalty.

The shocking incident serves as a grim reminder of how quickly social gatherings can turn deadly when alcohol and deep-seated issues of respect and honour are involved.

Besides the tragedy of a death. Kudos to the old man at age 86 having a morning drinking session.

  • Fragile! Face! The downfall of Thai culture!

Would never have happened if they'd been smoking weed.

Probably would not have got far even if sober.

Forgot the mindsets like overgrown babies

Life imprisonment isn't going to be that long is it. In reality he won't even make it to the next amnesty.

Still working on reaching age of maturity...

I'm sorry but what a loser, despite his age.

Silly old man.

perhaps when sober, regret will sink in, "Oh what a rogue and peasant slave am I...."

My deceased Father-in-Law killed a Man by stabbing him in the same circumstances 40 odd years ago.  He did 5 years of a 10 year Jail sentence and always said he couldn't remember doing it and therefore wasn' sorry about it at all, even though the Victim had a Wife and young Kids !

He may regret everything when he sobers up. No mention of his family.

Honor and respect is not everything, this tiny little man could not possibly be more incorrect, self-respect and self honor is far more important. If he had the emotional development beyond that of a 13 year old he would have just been able to brush off the perceived insult rather than killing his so-called friend. This pathetic man's life should be ended immediately.

He has self revoked the right to consume oxygen.

A perfect example of the very real dangers of excessive alcohol consumption, even by people who are more than likely regular heavy drinkers,

It's One thing reading about it on here, but if one lived nearby and actually witnessed the whole incident it would be  absolutely shocking, especially as the victim probably didn't die very quickly so the sight and sound of him writhing in agony, with the killer and the other guy staggering around drunk, must have been somewhat traumatic

I'm trying to remember if there has ever been report of  a similar incident taking place when a group of  guys met up to smoke a few joints together, but nothing springs to mind, its almost as if it has never happened,  perhaps it never has,

Would never have happened if they'd been smoking weed.

Two glasses of Lao Khao would have been enough to send the old fella over the edge.  Life imprisonment means a couple of years by the look of him 🙂

This is a good example of how fragile most Thai people egos are. Absolutely disgusting.

.. However.. I must always remember this as I go about my day here in the Land of Smiles 🙂

RIP to the victim 🙏

At age 86, intoxicated, yet still able to articulate his reason for lethal reaction to a much younger  man for his "disrespect" !

I give him credit for ability to express his motivation at age 86.

Unfortunately he forfeits any credit from any quarter for the unnecessary murder !

If all involved had instead  been stoned (medically) in all probability the outcome would have been a laughing suggestion to eat own excrement in place of receiving a deadly blade in crucial organs.

Or not ?

The more he spoke of his honour, the quicker we counted the spoons.

Just as well he hasn't got much time or health left in him, by the look of him, to atone of his sins for much longer...

This is the reason I never get into heavy drinking sessions with Thais.

There is a lot of pent up anger in certain individuals, add in alcohol and all it takes is a light hearted joke to be taken the wrong way and things can get messy very quickly.

It might have if they'd been drinking Lao khow or taking yabba too...

Yeah because babies routinely murder each other for lack of respect

wow    !      those guys sure know how to throw a party  .....

I don't think Thais know the meaning of the word respect or empathy

No, but babies and small children fight in the sandbox over toys. Imagine that escalating when the mind does not develop and find itself in an adult body.

However, you did not understand my post from start, so you will probably have difficulties with this one as well.

Grown men also fight ,   Sometimes 1000's of them all at one time, often to the sounds of trumpets and drums   are they all akin to  children ?  even the ones who are awarded military honours?

Please, explain the resemblance to this thread. Were they at war?
