Why are there restrictions on weed but not on alcohol?

I mean why not have it on both anyway both of them are harmful to your health and I guess alcohol is more harmful

I don't drink nor do I smoke.

Let those 2 deadly, profitable, tax generating, allowed vices sink in, when govt states they care about your health & well being ... worldwide :coffee1:

Weed is controlled, because it is, a weed, an any idiot can grow it, eventually.

I often wonder about this myself.

When it comes to other things that people want banned, cigarettes and guns seem a lot more urgent.  It's weird, because alcohol causes more harm than guns, yet serves no actual purpose, while guns are useful for self-defence.  Equally, cigarettes are often the target of negative press, while alcohol, which also has a lot of negative health effects, pretty much gets ignored.

I think the problem is that alcohol is simply too popular for the cons to outweigh the pros.  That is, the harm caused by alcohol doesn't bother people as much as not being able to drink it would.

Alcohol, for good or ill, has a social history going back thousands of years, and in the modern world it's a multi-billion dollar business heavily integrated with food and hospitality. Basically alcohol is too ingrained with most cultures and there's too much money involved for it to be banned or overly restricted. Attempts at prohibition don't last long.

.

Booze has been around since the Roman times, ale was drunk by most in the UK because drinking water was contaminated with all sorts of nasties. So booze of some sort was/is part of the UK culture.

Pubs were in easy walking distance, they were everywhere...........🤗

At the same time, tobacco, whether in a pipe or paper, has been around for centuries.

Dope, I suppose we must thank the Chinese for that, though I am not going look.......😋

Not only that, alcohol has not been the subject of a 100 years long targeted hate campaign , courtesy of the good old USA.  even though the propaganda was based on misinformation and at times laughable it has still stuck in the minds of some people (as can readily be seen on this forum.

The title of the OP is a bit misleading  there are restrictions on alcohol , I believe its not available for sale tomorrow (Buddha day or similar?)  That's why the anti cannabis brigade have been a bit quiet today, they are all out stocking up, at least they will be when they have read this if they didn't already know

I do not understand the heading.

From what I see and read, there are very few restrictions on weed and they are ignored by the sellers anyway.

There are far more restrictions on alcohol and again, many ignore them (in Thailand).

Why?  One word, TAX.

IF alcohol is banned, people will make it at home and the gov't gets nothing from it.

IF weed is banned, people will grow it in their backyards, and once again, nothing for those in power who need copious amounts of money from the population to sustain themselves and their next ten generations of family members in uber-luxury.

I'm 75 years old and have never, not even for a moment, considered that I've needed a gun for self-defence.

As a recovered alcoholic/drug addict, I say life is much better without both.

If you need a crutch of weed, better eat it as it caused emphysema in me. Maybe it was all those hot knives and bongs.

There are restrictions on alcohol!!!

1. Under Thai law you must be 20 years old to buy it legaly.
2. You can only buy alcohol between 11 am to 2 pm and 5 pm to midnight

The 2. restriction is complete nonsens if they check buyers about the 1. restriction.

But it is a real stupid restriction if you drive just once the week into the city for shopping. This are the times with the most traffic and if you are just 1 second to late at the cashier you don't get alcohol. And if you drink beer which you can't buy everywhere (Leo Strong No.8) 😎 you have a real problem.
The staff in 7/11 are the best. If you want to buy a box of 12, they will charge you the bottle price * 12 or they not sell the box.

Whilst countless others have, making your point irrelevant.

You can get vaporisers also (not vapes).

Cool, if they are unharmful to the lungs.

Which means that I have managed to avoid either the wrong company or living in a country where people are in such fear of their life that they feel obliged to carry a gun for self-defense. I think I win.

And why shouldn't a retailer do that?

No booze sales today, half pissed already on Red Horse, cheers.🫠

I really don't understand why weed  / dope / whatever cannot be regulated, and age-restricted just like alcohol and tobacco.

Leave we consenting adults to choose our own vices!

My opinions don't just apply to Thailand, of course - this is an issue in many places.
