Treat Thais with respect you get the same in return.

Always remember we are guests in their country .

Agree.

And many Thais have encountered / witnessed / had friends suffer from farang actions.

As soon as a tourist is attacked by Taxi thugs they should be pictured in the local press like the tourists gets splashed all over the local rag and his bike confiscated. After a month have a bike Auction and give the money to a school for equipment.

Pattaya should stop all the motorcycle taxis operating. Force them all to take criminal background checks and have special license for driving passengers. They should take full control over rates and services relating to foreigners there. Only then maybe the crime these taxis drivers commit, the overcharging, and the taxi gangs will end. If the city does not take control then they really do not care about tourist and foreigner safety. They should all be working together equally through the city to sponsor them.

They are supposed to have Yellow Plates on the bikes denoting that they are for hire, how many white plated bikes  (illegal) have you seen lately. The Yellow Plate mean that there is some sort of Insurance as well. I have also (in 20 years of driving here) never seen so many people  jumping the   lights at traffic lights or not wearing their helmets.

The Thai police were ever that efficient years ago and they have gone downhill since then.

Yes, they do seem to have given up the ghost...... except for the tourist tax collections in front of the Beach Rd station.

Don't see much of  problem really... just walk up to a m/c taxi driver and tell him where you want to go and how much you will pay and usually off you go. Car taxis used to be a problem but since Bolt less of an issue.

The incident is not the first of its kind, with locals comparing the aggressive tendencies of the taxi riders to that of a mafia gang.

Ya don't say?

Tesla is launching its robotaxis in the US next year.

Apparently a fleet of 1 million taxis in the US.

Much cheaper than Uber.

No news about this in Thailand?
Man I can't wait until taxi drivers are all replaced by these driverless cars.

I'll be dancing in the streets.

They need to be equipped with some means to wake me up and get me out at my home, but otherwise love the idea!

They should also take away their ability to operate as Taxi drivers, they've proven themselves unworthy.

You mean like amputate their arms?

This explains why Bolt drivers stop some distance away instead of In front of the building.

Not really true.

Wrong to attack him....but the reason for the attack should be at least explored.

I've never felt threatened by motorbike taxi guys.

I dont like people who dont respect Thai laws or way of life, but I also never use these taxi stand services because theyre always blocking the sidewalks. You block the sidewalks you dont get my business.

Once had a bit of an issue with a few WIN guys who had camped out on a sidewalk and I couldn't get by. The step down to the gutter, which they expected me to do, was rather a high one and I didn't want to do it.
