Julian Assange's flight to make a refuelling stop in Bangkok, says Thai official

A plane carrying Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, will make a stopover in Bangkok for refueling, according to a senior Thai official. The plane will then continue on to the Northern Mariana Islands, a US region located in the Pacific Ocean.

The flight from London is scheduled to touch down at approximately 11:50 am (0450 GMT), refuel, resupply water, and then depart at 9:00 pm for Saipan island. The information comes from an anonymous official.

As per a plea deal, Assange will be taken to face a judge in the US territory. This arrangement is anticipated to lead to his freedom and return to Australia, his homeland.

Assange, 52, has agreed to plead guilty to a single charge of conspiracy to acquire and disclose national defense information, as mentioned in a court document in the Northern Mariana Islands.

Scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday morning local time, Assange is expected to receive a 62-month prison sentence, but will be credited for over five years served in jail in Britain.

Assange has been accused of publishing around 700,000 classified documents related to the US' military and diplomatic activities since 2010. He's been held in a high-security prison in London since 2019, after seeking asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy in London for seven years to avoid extradition to Sweden on sexual assault charges, which were eventually dropped.

According to WikiLeaks, Assange was granted bail, transported from Belmarsh jail to Stansted airport, on the outskirts of London, before being put on a plane.

This plea deal puts an end to the long-lasting dispute over US attempts to extradite Assange from Britain under the 1917 Espionage Act. US President Joe Biden had been experiencing increasing pressure to abandon the long-standing case against Assange, so this development doesn't come as a surprise.

No he didn’t.

He had a couple of girlfriends at the same time and wasn’t using condoms, when they found out about each other they complained. As if there were not hundreds of others of people in Sweden, both men and women doing exactly the same thing or worse, but they were never charged, or even harassed.

Trumped up under pressure from the USA government who were exposed by Assange. Which was the first step of their two steps to get him locked up in USA where he would have a final Epstein moment in his cell.

I guess now it's too late.

They should have invited him to spend a night in Bangkok.

Imagine the news: After more than a decade in confinement Julian Assange spend his first free night in Nana.

He said it was the time of his life.

Now that is the kind of advertisement which Thailand needs.

Since he has been locked up in Belmarsh Prison for the last 5 years, and was living in the spare bedroom of the Ecuadorian Embassy for the 7 years before that I doubt he is that well informed on "Biden's Gaza BS."

Ok, let's hope he gets his Nobel prize.

All the Assange fan boys are out.

Trumped up charges that were dropped... USA doing it's dirty business after being exposed by him.

He's still in danger in the Mariana Islands which is a US territory. If released by the court there, as agreed between the US and the UK, he will be on his way to safety in Oz. His mistake was to name US supporters in countries hostile to the US, thereby exposing them to great danger.

Absolutely true!

It happens from the grassroot up to the highest levels!

A truthful and honest person will become toxic in society.

Being 'Diplomatic' is how you BS society!

Wouldn't be surprised, if they let him do the remaining year of his sentence in prison first.

One of the biggest judicial injustices and examples of imperial bullying by the world's version of the a-hole uncle who tries to push his views on the whole family at Xmas dinner, finally comes to an end, albeit with an unfair compromise.

Ed Snowden should be given the same courtesy.

Well, quite obviously the US now acknowledges their wrong doings and wanted to keep the lid on that drum of manure. Assange's way out is the ever-so-important face saving for the official US with all their goons in Washington DC.

Supposedly that flight has cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars because he can’t fly commercial. It gets hard to even make this stuff up, the ways in which they can bend us all over when they need to

I like to draw analogous stories to assange just because it really points out the ridiculousness of the usa government

Guy walks into a liquor store and he robs the place. Liquor store owner does not want to give up the good so the robber ends up opening fire and kills the owner and makes off with the cash.

A person filming the entire incident then gets brought in for questioning. The video of the incident gets circulated and you can clearly see the robber shooting the store owner point blank and running from the store and his identity is clear as day.

In the end, the innocent bystander who videotaped the incident gets thrown in jail and the robber never faces any charges. In fact they never even question him or publicly identify him, even though it would be very easy to a certain his identity.

What law did he break? The Supreme Court already ruled in the 1970s that news outlets are not responsible for their news sources. This was the USA again bullying the freedom of the press—manipulation and lying are their standards, and most people lap it up—that's the sad thing.

Oz government paying, though they claim they'll get it back from him. Which, if you believe ...  Also on board the Oz Ambassador to Washington & the Oz High Commissioner (= Ambassador) to UK.

You couldn't make this stuff up. Wonder what our friends in the US defence & intelligence system think of that.

Why do you say that when that charge was dropped by the prosecutor?

Why doubt that?
