You mean by winning the war thousands more will need to die. How about stop funding the war and save lives…seek peace not war, or did you forget that somewhere along the way?

Seeking peace with dictators is like trying to negotiate with a shark to stop chewing one's leg off.

As Harris said to Trump, Putin will eat your lunch.

And Trump is such a moron that he will brag about it.

Eight years of indiscriminate shelling did indeed have consequences.  That region has voted to join the Russian Federation.  Democracy is bad now?

That region voted at booths attended by Russian soldiers to ensure the vote went in favor. As happened in the other illegally annexed oblasts.

Stop spreading lies, tovarisch.

I see that not even the Putin fans here have bothered to suggest that the Vance "peace plan" is anything other than a massive victory for Russia with NOTHING for Ukraine in return.

How about Ukrainians get to stop dying and start rebuilding what's left?   Maybe they'll have the semblance of an economy in a few years.

Push Putin too far, and he'll have to take Kiev.  Scorched earth style.  He's been fighting with kid gloves, in hopes of having peace and some kind of relationship with Ukraine when the dust settles.  Poke the bear too much, kill Russkies far into Russia, and he'll have no choice but to go full Red Army- like 1945.  How did that work out for the Germans?

And that doesn't even address the possibility that some idiot on one side or the other will accidentally, or negligently spark off Armageddon.

Agreed. More sanctions and secondary sanctions need to be put on Iran , China and South Korea to stop them funding and profiting from supplying Russias invasion of Ukraine. It is a disgrace  that secondary sanctions have not already been implemented.  Without ammunition  from these totalitarian states Putin would have had to give up his imperialist ambitions long ago. Shame on western governments on not going all in from the get go. The only people doing well from this drawn out affair are arms manufacturers.

If it's that cut and dry, then the OP really shouldn't need all this "You either say what we tell you to say, or you're siding with the enemy" propaganda nonsense.

What's despicable is sending another 1/4 to 1/2 million Ukrainians to die for a war that's already lost, at the risk of setting off WW3 and Armageddon.  Fighting for a more corrupt government, and a lower standard of living than they'd have if they laid down their arms and started rebuilding today.

If Ukrainians surrendered, Russia would take over Ukraine.

Do you really believe that living under the Russians would be an improvement?

Absurd.

Russia has been forced to sell at huge discounts.

Rubbish. Russians would come in, steal the land and essentially enslave the Ukrainians. Like the 20+ thousand children they've already stolen.

Putin doesn't see Ukraine as a sovereign nation separate from Russia.

His genocidal aim is to wipe out Ukrainian language, culture, and church and to murder all Ukrainians that do not accept being Russified but it's also OK for him if they flood Europe and destabilize it with a refugee crisis that they can't handle. Remaining Russified Ukrainians are good for slave cannon fodder for future imperial ambitions beyond Ukraine. Putin isn't crazy, but he is evil.

Many westerners see white Russians and incorrectly think they have European values. They do not.

An example is during WW2 when defeated Germans rushed to the west to be prisoners of the west instead of being prisoners of Russia (which meant indefinite gulag slavery and likely death).

Often appeasement isn't the best course of action. 1st Georgia then Crimea, then Ukraine? where do you think Putin will stop, Latvia or Poland maybe?

I would love to see Russia crushed and Putin banished. Inrelaize it is just a fantasy. But he sure deserves that. He is a very dark force.

One may ask why has Putin chosen this moment to make his move on Ukraine? As many have pointed out, Russia is an objectively weak state — “Upper Volta with nuclear weapons,” as someone once quipped — with a nominal G.D.P. smaller than that of South Korea. Outside of energy, minerals and second-rate military equipment, it produces almost nothing that outsiders want: no Russian iPhone, Lexus or “Fauda.” If it were not for the minerals, oil and natural gas, I believe Russia would be a highly irrelevant state. Sure, it had alot of culture. Had. What have it's contributions been since the middle of the 20th century?

Putin’s problem with Ukraine, starting with the Maidan uprising of 2014, is that Ukrainians want nothing to do with him. He is despised. And for good reason. If he were a Disney character, he’d be Rapunzel’s mother. But, he is not a Disney character, which makes him a pathetic, aggressive, serial killing despot dictator, who appears to be targeting women and children in his latest escapade, and further walk into the world of darkness.

Yes, but only on the condition that post-victory Ukraine does not revert to being one of the most corrupt countries on Earth.

Yes, permanently since 1993, lived and worked in Thailand in the 1980s, having first visited in 1962. I have also lived and worked, inter-alia, in Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and the Soviet Union. Got to know a bit about corruption over the years.
