Correct, I just watched a podcast from Mark Faber, it appears that neither Trump or Harris consider the US debt to be a problem, they know it is but there is nothing, from a political standpoint, that they can do. Who would vote for a party that says taxes have to be raised, social programs have to be reduced, pensions for government employees have to be reduced by 30%. Far better to just keep printing knowing that the BRICS hammer will smash the dollar in 3 to 5 years. Already Asian countries are storing massive amounts of gold and selling dollar debt because they know that it's unsustainable for the US to pay a trillion dollar interest on its debt per year, payments which require even more printing, this stops any effort to rejuvenate the failing infrastructure. I had to laugh when he described the two candidates as the dumb one and the communist without naming names. It doesn't matter who wins, the West is f***ed.

Nobody trusts gold from China. It's all fake tungsten filled bars. They're selling themselves fake gold.

The West may be in decline and the 21st century may (eventually) prove to be the 'Asian century', but the chances of the Real, Ruble, Rupee, Yuan or Rand - or the 'Brics' - supplanting  the dollar as the world's reserve currency in 3 - 5 years is about as likely as Mikel Areta asking me if I fancy a game of football for Arsenal this evening.

Brics already have a Brics pay card, circumventing SWIFT. Thailand has applied to join Brics, I dread to think what this will mean for our western currency exchange rates in a few years time.

Unless the world's leading banks decide to jettison SWIFT, then any BRICS initiative will have virtually zero effect on the world's banking transactions: Incidentally the Bank of China is a member of the Board of Directors of SWIFT.

On a global scale Thailand joining BRICS is meaningless.

With the exception of China, the US economy dwarfs all others. Perhaps, China (and India?) may one day overtake the US in terms of economic power but - barring an economic catastrophe - that day will probably be well into the second half of this century, and it certainly won't be in a few years time.

The dollar is now used in only 54% of international trade invoices. Sometimes decades of progress are made in only a few years. The US economy is built on unsustainable debt, that isn't a strong foundation for the future.

And yet most indicators still support the view that the dollar is likely to remain the dominant currency for the foreseeable future

https://www.federalreserve.gov/econres/notes/feds-notes/the-international-role-of-the-us-dollar-post-covid-edition-20230623.html#:~:text=The 2022 Triennial Central Bank,20 years (Figure 9).

(Admittedly not the most unbiased of sources).

As for debt. Yes, it should be a concern for the incoming US administration but it is decreasing as a % of GDP. On the other hand, debt is increasing both in absolute terms, and as a % of GDP for China, India and Russia.

We're on the same page regarding BRICS. Virtually nobody knows what the acronym even stands for, and those that do have no comprehension of the threat to USD hegemony.  It's a bit like bitcoin - nobody understood it until it smacked the economic world in the face - basically overnight.

People also forget that empires disappear somewhat rapidly, and the ruling class never see it coming. Let them eat cake.

When the US sanctioned and eventually stole the Russian gold and foreign reserves, the BRICS organisation put the pedal to the metal. They've been around since 2015 (arguably 2009) but didn't make much of a wave. Now they have everything in place to rival SWIFT and the USD. Their summit next weekend will probably formally announce the Unit and its gold backing of 40%.

So what will the FED do? Default - unlikely. QE and inflate - probably.  Or here's a wild card - revalue gold to 150k an ounce to balance the books. Should have done that two years ago before the sanctions - that would have really put the brakes on the BRICS rapid development. But now the BRICS members have all the gold - whoops

Either way, the BRICS train is coming and the G7 are just a deer in the headlights. :coffee1:

OP's point is well taken, as just opened 'new content', and 10 or 25 topics on first page are trump, harris related.  Most trump bashing of course.

Does make for a quick read, or a chuckle depending on the last comment.  Unfortunately, I doubt if anything will change after Nov 5th.

Oh well, such is forums :coffee1:

In an election this close, likely nothing will be decided 'about 10pm Nov 5th'.  That was Trump's problem on Election Night in 2020--he was too dumb to realize that tons of mail-in ballots still had to be counted.  If I remember correctly, Pennsylvania, a key swing state, could not even start counting the mail-in ballots until Election Day.  Trump stupidly thought he was winning because he was getting more election day votes in some places, since he had even more stupidly told his supporters to not vote by mail.

Would be nice to be able to click a box and opt out from seeing the political sub forum.

Is mildly annoying to hit the "Unread Content" button and then have to scroll past dozens of  politics threads to find Thailand related topics.

Perhaps in time a BRICS currency may gain traction and become a threat to the dollar's hegemony but, as I have said previously, imo that day is some way off. For one thing, the BRICS would need much wider adoption and to be embraced by the other developed economies such as the EU, Japan, UK, etc. Currently, there appears be little appetite for the BRICS amongst this group.

Bitcoin (and other crypto currencies) may now be increasingly accepted as a means of payment, but the wild claims that they (it?) would be revolutionary have been grossly exaggerated. The promised imminent elimination of FIAT currencies shows no sign of happening anytime soon.

Interesting article about the forthcoming BRICS summit attached (starts @+/- 26'00"). Rest of the broadcast also worth a listen if you have time.

That will be nothing compared to the meltdown from MAGA when/if Trump loses.

The Repubs are already preparing for all kinds of court challenges, although I don't know where they will get the money for the lawyers. Perhaps Musk or Putin will help out.

If the OP is so tired of it, why in the first place he starts topic in this forum, as this is his second one in just a week? And why is he constantly replying to topics in there, spewing his hate as a non-American citizen, against always the same candidate?

Callum,      The OP is likely what we in the States call a "woketard", and he can see from the betting lines in the U.K. (Trump at over 60% now) and the legitimate polls in the U.S., that Trump is poised for a landslide in the Electoral College and the Republicans are set to take back the Senate and increase their majority in the House of Representatives.  My guess is that you will see more posts like this over the next 15 days, leading up to the eventual Trump Victory, and then you will see the weeping and gnashing of teeth once the election is over, and then the real vitriol will begin. If the U.S. is such a decrepit nation and is headed for bankruptcy, then why bother even talking about it??? I think we all know the answer to that question, even the OP, and that is why he is so obsessed with what is happening in the U.S. currently. For those of you hitching your wagon to the BRICS currency, you might want to take a look at what is happening within China right now, as the economy has entered recession, the shadow banking system is beginning to fall apart, and the CCP is printing billions of yuan everyday and funneling it into their stock market in order to to keep it afloat. China is a country headed for implosion, and its anyone's guess as to if there will be a massive civil insurrection that takes out the CCP, but if history is any indication, then sadly that is the likeliest outcome.

European elections apart from Boris do not usually  have a candidate as amusing and newsworthy as Trump.

Good news for you the

election is only days away.

Bad news for you  is the Trump 'bandwagon' will contiue long after he wins the election.
