I have almost zero interest in US politics.  But considering your question, I would guess that the answer is 'desperation'.  This is similar to what's happening in the UK, where mainstream politicians seem to ignore the genuine concerns of many people over immigration, labeling them as far-right or fascists. 

 

This is a dangerous  situation, which only forces people to turn in desperation to those politicians who do seem to hear their concerns, and that may mean a hard-right politician or a nut job....

Let's face it, the USA is not a democracy when it only has two choices for president. Both of them are millionaire elites, and I guess trump is seen as an alternative to the boring continuation of the direction of the USA I think going in for the last few years.

I know some will disagree with me but...

In response to the opening question:

 

Decent Americans do not support Trump.

 

There, that ought to trigger a few members.

There is no question that Trump is unfit for office on a dozen different levels. I could name them but there's no point. Everybody knows who he is, everybody knows what he's done, however his supporters embrace a style of denial and support him nonetheless, no matter what he does, and no matter how foolishly he behaves.

 

I will admit as a Centrist Democrat that Harris is a poor alternative. She has not been a particularly good candidate, and she has not put forth specific policy that is all that appealing, plus there is something about her that's just kind of grating and annoying. I did vote for her because for me the alternative is horrific, and Trump scares me. I believe his intentions are heinous and I believe the direction that he could take the country in is nothing short of dangerous. I consider his tariff plans to be a huge tax hike and I could go on and on all day about the reasons to not vote for him, but that doesn't seem to mean anything to his devotees.

Surely their word has to mean something in today's world??
