A viral video showing two foreigners fighting each other on a road along Patong Beach in Phuket sparked criticism of weaknesses in Thai laws.

A Thai man shared the video of the altercation on his TikTok account, @aifkiatprasert, yesterday, November 5. He later shared it with the news Facebook page, Phuket Times, before deleting it from his account. The page posted the video with a caption that read…

“Foreigners fighting each other! Fights are available almost every night at Patong Beach boxing stadium.”

In the 16-second video, two foreign men can be seen brawling while one of them remains seated on a motorcycle. Their altercation caused a nearby parked motorcycle to be overturned. The report did not disclose details about the motive or specific circumstances of the fight.

The video sparked criticism from Thai netizens, aimed not only at the foreign men but also at Thai laws.

“This happened because Thai laws are so weak. Foreigners aren’t afraid. They just need to offer a gift basket or money to the police, and then both eyes and mouths are shut.”

“They would never do this in other countries. They’d be deported, blacklisted, or jailed. But everything is fine in Thailand. We spoil foreigners until they stop respecting locals.”

“Everything happens in Patong.”

“Everyone sees this, but the police don’t.”

Officers have not yet provided clarification about the incident to the public, and the two foreigners may have already resolved their conflict.

That wasn't a fight. I think they were just trying to do the nasty but too drunk. Could not understand what language they were speaking.

It's not the laws are weak but the emphasis of civil disobedience over criminal disobedience. The National Police seems less focused (or ignorant?) on enforcing laws from a criminal aspect to enforcing civil peace which has little to do with the rule of law.

Where I come from this is not news. Elementary school - fights, high school - fights, 18-40 yrs old - fights.  Police get involved if the altercation involves weapons (never did) or it is a gang thing.  Two guys and fisticuffs is nothing.

Another issue that is only allowed for Thais.... Foreigners are not allowed to fight... Thai people  can do as we have seen many times even in hospitals and that is no problem for the netizens... but as foreigners fight on the beach.......

Thai laws are not weak, enforcing them are weak.

It's nothing in Thailand either lol. This is some handbags compared to the locals when they are fighting. Of course this site with what ever agenda they have, which I haven't fully worked out yet, but I think I have an idea, like to highlight handbags involving foreigners over serious incidents involving Thais.

Couldn’t have been too bad because Thais were not ‘outraged’.

So true and the statement probably explains the next quoted piece regarding the resolution

Netizens must be very ignorant of things that happen in other countries to claim this.

I've suspended my getting involved in brawls until the thai authorities sort out the outrageous blocking of ambulances by irresponsible Thai drivers. It's just not worth the risk and they are curtailing the fun for everyone! 😡

Funny you should say that. I jokingly suggested a republican v democrats showdown on Pattaya beach as a way of clearing the air. Never happened though. No takers!

Patong is one of the most blighted and horrific places in Thailand. Having accompanied a friend there last year, I would never return. It is dreadful, and it attracting the lowest quality tourists in its history.

The cops here are very weak. For us, there is a good and a bad side to that. In the US, they can be overzealous. Here?

why is this  news?
in any bar area anywhere in the world there are fights

Throw them both in  jail, giving us a bad name in Thailand who respect Thai Law. Both scum!!

Ok...one on one....that must be against the local mens laws!

Thailand open the doors, makes it easy to get a visa.

So all the riffraff comes in.

It could be that Thais will hate all foreigners once.

That's because they're serving alcohol at night time.

A 16 second brawl , one did not even get off his bike ...

A desperate need for tougher laws against foreigners now ?

A xenophobe pushed to his limits ?

You should go to KSA (Saudi Arabia) if you want to see real arrogance?

The Thais commenting that Thai laws are too weak  and that's why foreigners are fighting have obviously been living in a bubble and lead a sheltered life.   Fights happen everyday in every country especially when drinking is involved.  Probably hi so's commenting or just another chance for them to slag off foreigners.  Because you never see Thais fighting each other🤔

The last thing quality Tourists and their families visiting the world Renowned Resorts of Phuket and Pattaya is drunk foreigners or Thais fighting in the streets or beaches

Not a good image for the country 😱

And yes the law enforcement leaves a lot to be desired  💰
