Frustrated with Thai Immigration - 90 day online report frustrations

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Last month my online 90 day report was rejected, no reason given, and after wasting much of the day and loads of petrol CW announced that my rejection was because my TM 30 had expired. Apparently I had not lived continuously in my home for the last 8 years although I had no recollection of living anywhere else but the IO's know best it seems. After getting a new one, I was allowed to accept graciously my TM47 and go home. BUT - I was instructed by the IO to apply for a new one online BEFORE 24th December as it expired 10th January.

Math prodigies amongst you will note that is more than 15 days but the IO insisted she was correct in spite of me weakly wimpering "but but but......your CW web pages say apply in the window 15 days to 7 days before due date. Shot down in contempt for being a stupid old man and a foreigner to boot.

So - I did what she said and applied on 12th December - email from the elementals running things said "application rejected" and included " This online application can be submitted 15 days in advance until the due date of notification."

So I applied again on the 24th (yesterday) and today - rejected with same message.

Ok - more than 15 days BUT on the Internet (Google clearly is NOT always your friend) the Immigration Dept said "15 WORKING days before." and 24th December is under 15 working days before 10th January.

My 3rd attempt will now be made on the 27th December - wish me luck and hopefully whatever Gods control the TM47 renewals will grant the renewal.

Meanwhile - Merry Chrimbo to all my long-suffering readers, those of you not too drunk to make it to the loo in time to avert embarrassment.  Never mind - things dry quickly in this climate. Happy New Year to all in spite of taxation and excessively inflated baht rates!

Why on earth would you do that if you know your window is 15-7 days before and the 90day ends 10-Jan? Makes no sense. Stick to the window.

  • Entertaining to read about people coming here to complain about their mistakes.

  • Agents are for the lazy, the clueless and those without the needed funds. Anyone can call themselves an agent, totally unregulated with no accountability. Almost parasites.

I have given up the immigration here, and do it personally, and also everytime I come back from travel outside Thailand, I attend in person even it is an roundtrip of 172km

Should be more overstayers in the future id imagine. They dont make it easy to follow their rules

In the same boat, but did read somewhere...... "online reports between 15 and 7 days before due date".....so going to give that a go next time.

Well, I posted "signed for" for years but a year ago decided to try online as members here said it was, after many years, working properly. Also posting involved driving into the outskirts of Bkk to a Post Office to get it stamped - wasting time and money so online was an attractive option. And to be fair, for most of the year it has worked perfectly and the time before expiry didn't become an issue until these last two renewals.

Thai Immigration are masters of confusion - who to believe, the IO, sundry Government web sites or .......??

I used to get email reminders when the report was due, that's stopped but the reports are still working, for now. It's all a waste of time, why not just make a report if you have moved, at the same address for 20 years and you still have to tell them you are still there, daft.

Actually, I thought I had comprehensively explain in some detail why I did what I did when confusing information from the I.O and other Government web sites abounds. THEY don't seem to know what they want and I agree with you - on the face of it and the info on-line from CW it is indeed 15 - 7 days before BUT.......if I followed that and it was 15 WORKING days before I'd wind up sitting in CW most of the day after an exhausting 2 hour journey. Clear now?

Absolutely, it's all in that category labelled "testicles" spelt boll..........you get the idea! I also miss the e-mail reminders, had to buy more fridge magnets lol!

As mud. You've lost the plot. 15 days has always been 15 days. So just subtract that off 10-Jan. It's not rocket science.

Use an agent, it's really not worth the hassle dealing with the cretin IO's.

Well, I think I was pretty clear on my reasons, reinforced by the IO actually printing on my TM47 receipt when I should reapply. It is still stuck on my fridge - "Re-apply BEFORE 24th December" is says. So I guess it is rocket science?

Look, it's Christmas, if you've got a belly ache try Imodium not negativity.

I've already said I will go the 15-7 day route and reapply on 27th - ok?

Quite so, using an agent to fill in one simple form is ridiculous, I would rather pay the fine for not doing the 90 day report. Anyone can take your form in, even a taxi driver.

Rather mindless post.

There are many expats living in Thailand with age/health/mobility issues.

Some live very far from immigration.

CW for example is a massive building and even from carport to immigration desks is a serious task for some.

With online reporting hit and miss and currently seems more miss, it's not a simple as you suggest.

Your follow up post stating ....

"Anyone can take your form in, even a taxi driver."

That's a joke right..

Try that at eg CW.

You are not alone.  About a year ago I got the same message.  Rejected and come to the office.  I now go in person and do the report.  Transparency and efficiency are not the hallmarks of the Land of Smiles. This would be an issue if one lives far from the nearest immigrtion office.

But would you trust said Taxi driver with your passport which must accompany your 90 day form?

Even from Immigration to the photocopy shop located at the other end is a serious task for some.

It's clearly stated on Google, by numerous people, that it's not a joke.

Yes, you can assign someone to submit your TM47 on your behalf at the Residence Notification Unit in Bangkok, Thailand:

Building B, 2nd floor, south side, Chaeng Watthana Road, Thung Song Hong Subdistrict, Lak Si District, Bangkok

But when it comes to 90 day reporting ANYONE can do it for you, agents are not necessary for delivering one form, I have seem motor bike taxi riders take them in. Luckily, if you follow the rules remote online reporting does work for the age/health/mobility issues.

Have you even been to CW for a 90 day report.

Granted with online appointment can be done quickly.

Without can take quite some time.

Just leave the meter running.

I would just as much trust a taxi driver than an agent

No

It stopped working for me but my agent only charges 100b.

Well here's a positive post as regards 90 day reports, which I have always executed in person at the local immigration office in Patong, but with the traffic being so bad I decided to try the "online" route – – and lo and behold it worked, and I got a reply within a matter of hours saying that my information had been recorded and my next 90 day report was in March of next year!!!

I was ecstatic and it actually made my Christmas (sad to report I know) so now I know that it works here it will be my regular process from here on in!!! Merry Christmas!

You do not become an overstayer by failing to complete a 90 day report, overstay only comes into force when you pass your extension permitted to date.
