 That whole bar scene is quite a cesspool. But the guys who enter these places need to understand that they need to play by the the rules of the "sewage" and  wake up to the fact that there is no magic here beyond the thin curtain. They are in it for the money exclusively and that is effing it.  Not for  you "handsome man". Break that rule and you'll feel the whole stench of it dragging you down. 

One Lesson from this - never have a tab - always pay round by round then such things become apparent straight away

It can actually be reversed also. Some years ago I was having a quiet drink when a foreigner started behaving aggressively towards me (without having exchanged a single word). The girls formed a circle around me and he eventually went, I asked them why he acted like this, they explained that when he was drunk he always got aggressive

Another ridiculous, moronic and repetitive 'quality tourist' comment....try thinking for yourself and say something original. There have been a lot of go go bars and beer bars in Pattaya for many years. Do you think these bars have operated  without any 'incidents' or 'misunderstandings' over the years...or maybe, just maybe, wait for it.....more things are reported in the public domain because of social media.

I always insist on having the bin right in front of me, and when a new tab comes in, I check it like a casino dealer with extremely slow and obvious hand movements. No surprises, and the few places I frequent know I'm always a generous tipper. We ALL know the score, I tell the girls "Lie to me, TELL me I'm a hansum man!"

Back in the day ... I already knew upon my first visit with the evening stars, to check the drink bill put in the cup. Cost of my drink (I'm an oenophilist ... OK, wino)? Cost of the girl's drink? If reasonable, as I knew I was paying for her drink and her attention ... I would often buy one or two "lady drinks" for her friends and if it was somewhere I had been before and they remembered my name ... a drink for the Mama-San. Ha! Fond memories and never any issues. Sold me on the attention of Thai females. Happy 13 years retired (from work, the evening stars and with a Thai Wife).

Most Thai girls can't drink more than one drink, I never buy them drinks, they stop asking after a while and leave you alone.

I never went into Thai Karaoke bars as they try to put a girl beside you and charge for her company, people should read the lonely plant b4 coming here if it's still up to date.

I went to a bar in Patpong years ago and I wasn't drinking alcohol at the time, then the most nasty gay sat down beside me and said '' you buy drink now' ''so I bought a can of beer and left it there, then when I  went to leave I did not have any small money and gave her 1000 baht she wouldn't give the change back, so I pretended to ring the police and said tourist police coming ten minutes and my wife, they gave me the change and said farg off don't come back.

There sadly is this hustle still going on in Thailand

Lady drink prices (commission for the girls) on customers bills are not "shady", they are completely normal, I'm not surprised that they were pissed off at his refusal to pay.

Not once in 30+ years, I am out all the time Bangkok/Pattaya bar scene, have a big friend base, no one ever mentioned happened to them
