New Republic compares Musk's assault on the constitutional to Appomattox (Civil War)

As a boy I visited the grim battlefield at Appomattox.

I never imagined I would see such an assault on the U.S. government in my lifetime, much less from a bizarro Seig Heiling South African nerd.

This isn't about left vs. right.

This isn't about democrat vs. republican.

This is pick a side time as the Trump Musk anti-democracy side is actively and aggressively destroying the rule of law in America.

Impossible to criticize Putin and Xi, if the USA is even worse!

This is an internal COUP!

Voters elected a president.

They're getting a dictator King.

It may already be too late to stop them but this is not the time to sit back passively and just watch it happen.

Elon Musk Has Broken the Constitutional Order | The New Republic

Elon Musk Has Broken the Constitutional Order

The tech oligarch has unleashed his slow-rolling coup d’état across the federal government, and it’s not clear anything can prevent a total takeover.

The second Trump administration is waging the most aggressive war on the American constitutional order since Appomattox. President Donald Trump selected Elon Musk, a South African–born tech oligarch, to serve as the head of the “Department of Government Efficiency” after he took office. Musk has spent the last six weeks working with a band of longtime allies and young men to seize personal control of the federal government.

To that end, Musk and his DOGE allies commandeered the White House Office of Personnel Management and sent out legally dubious emails to pressure more than two million federal employees to either quit or retire. They captured the Treasury’s highly sensitive payment system and have reportedly begun rewriting its basic code. They even reportedly took over the General Services Administration, the federal agency that manages the government’s property and assets, to gain access to a wide swath of official technology and operating systems.

The only thing standing between democracy and dictatorship in America

Trump wants FBI agents who investigated his coup attempt, his facilitating espionage, or his other financial and criminal activities fired.

Let’s be very clear: this is how dictatorships start.

A guy who wants to be a dictator always begins by changing how the government works. Even though the majority of the nation had agreed previously that the government should do certain things in certain ways, he reassures everybody he’s got a better way and it’ll all work out.

In the process, he breaks a bunch of laws, but people mostly shrug because they don’t directly affect them. Pastor Niemöller wrote about this in 1930s Germany; to paraphrase: First they came for the government workers…

Then people start resisting, which is when he begins to use the police power of the state. The people who show up in the streets, the people who speak out in the media, the people who try to fight him in the legislatures and the courts: he figures out ways to get them fired, harassed, and ultimately imprisoned.

It is therefore mysterious that when the MOA government corruption is exposed, you are triggered that it is exposed, and attack the white knights that exposed it.

Do you see this as "good" corruption which is why you invest so much time and effort defending it? Or is there another reason why?

Any "saved" money isn't to help the American people. It's for larger tax cuts for billionaires and paying for Musk's pet projects. How can maga people be do blind?!?

Angry about transparency and accountability? You might want to rethink this.

That's not what this is about.

It's about an illegal power grab.

It was a landslide election win. Americans overwhelmingly voted for change and to dismantle the deep state. We were mocked for stating it existed, now its getting torn down and the left are wigging out. Im sorry, but you are on the wrong side of this.

This is sort of like, 'ok, i robbed the bank, what are you going to do about it?' Plenty of transparency, no accountability.

Not a landslide.

1.4 percent margin.

Trump didn’t even get 50 percent.

Even a landslide doesn’t give dictator powers.

You mean like pardoning his family and his cronies for past crimes yet to be uncovered?

Yepper, that's a very good start.

Demonizing Trump worked so well in November that I think the Dems and their paid minions should double down leading into the midterms.

Trump really knows how to get into the heads of the left wing socialist media. It is really funny that some posters take this bias as verbatim. Its going to fun to watch the left melt down for the next four years.

The thing is, we ain't seen nuthin' yet with The Donald.

He will likely be one of the most remembered people in all of history.

in 10,000 years, everyone will know who he was.

Lawless presidency.

Not for magas.

For the conned grocery prices voters.

The sailors in the olden days had many things to fear. But "a loose cannon" in the ship was a major fear. The American voters have decided to have "a loose cannon" on board for the next 4 years.
