Can I go out to sea ? Fishing

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

I am a city boy through & through and I have never been fishing or even out to Sea

I would like to at least try it .

I don't want to go with a big group as I find most people don't wish to discuss the topics I enjoy

I want to go in a medium sized boat into a big sea area with Marlon fishing maybe or to see sharks

Can anyone point me to such companies ?

Don't forget to wear your life jacket, we don't want to read about Georgie's death in the headlines when you capsize your vessel.

there is a few that run out of Phuket... 8 pax min, 20k a head.

I guess you mean Marlin... a bit optimistic here in this area. I used to go out some years ago, queen fish, king fish, we even got a sailfish once. Some years ago, and I was led to believe not many fish about of late. Best trip we ever did was an all night and day trip out from Koh Chang, but we also left from Sattahip or Bang Saray, and motored out for some hours. Pattaya Sports Club used to organize trips, the groups were six to 10 guys mostly, but they need to pack a few in to make the price low enough. The boat needs to bring live squid for best results. I gave up as I found it exhausting, early start, a long day, and a drive home usually in bad traffic.

The professor and Mary Ann....here on Gilligans island.

Maybe on the Andaman Sea side, but as a cheap charlie, it will be way out of your budget.  We use to charter boats every year, out of NJ, USA, and silly priced TBH.

You can do some shallow water fishing, and depending what you catch can be quite fun.   Or go deeper, but at a price ...

Go to Lipe. Do some snorkelling. Forget fishing.

Theres not really any fishing worth doing near Pattaya.  The gulf of Thailand is seriously over fished, the water near the coast is way too shallow and too murky for Marlin.  Most of the sharks have already been eaten as shark fin soup.....

The best is....use a boat. It's safer.🤗

I don't believe any far offshore fishing this time of year. Forget bill fish, Ling(Cobia), snapper, grouper, too many barracuda...lol, many fish but they aren't that numerous in the close shore waters. Check with Cap't Jari at the Pineapple Sport Restaurant/Bar on Soi Buakhao. Day trips from now until next "fall" will be available. I've gone out with his guys twice. Once for just a day trip, good day, plenty of smaller fish. Good crew. I just went for 2 nights off shore, we were closer to Hua Hin than Pattaya at one point and we loaded the boat with many varieties.

7Seas Proshop in Bangkok is a good place for tackle etc. They also might be able to point you to a fishing outfit. They did a great job on repairing one of my reels.

Search Facebook for sea fishing. Usually it’s at least a 2 day trip. You have to get away from Pattaya for sure. I do 5-7 day oil rig fishing trips with most, if not all Thai people and it runs between 7-9,000 baht including food a bait. Great time, but maybe not the best for your first time. Try a 2 day. Good luck

Is that the shop that was associated with Bungsamran (sp?)?  Better yet, where are they located now?

Oops.  Never mind for me.  I found them on a map. Others may be interested, though.

That's a sailfish, not a marlin.  Even a small marlin is many times that size.

Like OP's going to go fishing anyway.  Post is for others, as are all my post to most members' BS fantasy posts :coffee1:

Honestly, if you've never been out ona boat, do you know if you get sea sick?  Before you waste big bucks I'd try just go out.  Ive known many that say they don't, but when the rocking starts, they find out.  Take a speed boat to Koh Larn on a windy day.

To the OP, this is good advice, as  sea sickness will really ruin yours and others day if you get it. It can be helped with Dramamine and not eating greasy food before you go, but taking a trip close to shore in windy weather will show you if you can handle it or not. I've fished in the ocean many times and only got a little sick once because i ate a hamburger that wasn't the best. I made myself throw up so i could feel better and it worked, as i never got sick before or after that time. Thailand is over fished close to shore but the further you go out the better. There are billfish out there and they cost money to get out there with them. There are other good fish to catch also. Google charters out of south Thailand.
