Do they really believe that the trouble makers will behave themselves by changing the law. While they're at it all entertainment establishments should close down by midnight. How man assualts and traffic deaths occur between midnight and 4 am? That comment is a total contradiction. You start by saying cut all visa free stays and then go onto to imply that trouble makers won't behave themselves by changing the law. 1 1 1

Loosen the rules during high season then tighten them in the low season when it doesn't matter anyways. Next year come November they'll be spread wide open for Ivan, Chin and Ravi. Shouldn't it be the other way round though. To encourage tourists during the low season. Oh yeah i forgot it's a classic piece of Thai logic 1 1 3

Popular Post Jeff the Chef Posted March 18 Popular Post Posted March 18 The Visa's are irrelevant, the louts will still come and misbehave, what's needed is law enforcement, any violent act, vandalism, disrespect to Thai culture equals a big fine and instant Visa revocation with free transport to the Airport for your Homeward flight, ( all Visa entrants must have a exit flight ticket as part of entry requirements ) if your return flight is not for28 days, your in the airport jail till time of departure. Advertise the rules and consequences for all entrees, Shows the idiots, behave or you're on the way home and shows the family tourists you are serious about tourism. Job done. 1 4 3
Emdog Posted March 18 Posted March 18 This latest "adjustment" should settle once and for all the possible question posed by newbies regarding just how capable Thai officials are at considering any action that might happen in the unforeseen future, AKA after lunch. 1

Popular Post Pompeygeezer Posted March 18 Popular Post Posted March 18 Do real hardened criminals come to Thailand more because of a 60 day waiver? or wouldn't hardened criminals have fake passports, documents, etc? It's comical that a career criminal would come to a country because of a 60 day waiver. Do pissed up louts start fights because of a 60 day waiver or would they be starting fights whether they was on a 2 week holiday, 30 day waiver, 60 day waiver, etc, etc. Do people work here illegally because there is now a 60 day waiver instead of 30 days. who is coming over to Thailand to work for just 60 days? Are criminals involved in property scams flooding Thailand because they can now stay 60 days instead of 30? Not one of their reasons makes any sense. Or is the real reason is.....it's because a certain amount of Thais started moaning that foreigners were here longer than 30 days without a visa and they can't stand the idea of more falangs being in their country for any longer than they should be. 3 1 6

Popular Post Patong2021 Posted March 18 Popular Post Posted March 18 Very shortsighted move and it will effectively discourage the exact socio economic groups the country wanted. The option of a 60 day visa with an option to extend another 30 days was ideal for snowbirds. It brought in older and wealthier people who did not want the hassle of a visa hassle. The people who were relying on this visa were the western visitors, particularly retirees and Nordics. The 60 day visa is not the reason there are problems with visitors. The overstayers will overstay on 30 day visas and the troublemakers will still make trouble. There is no link between the 60 day visas and illegal business operations. The illegal operations are carried out by long stay foreigners. Alot of people on 60 day visas did not stay the full 60 days. Instead they were opting for 31-45 days and the 60 day option made their lives easier. The takeaway is that this is collective punishment because the Thais do not want to upset the Russians and Chinese. At the very least, offer the 60 day visa through the electronic portal without the lengthy paperwork and documentation process. 4 1 1 2 7

michael888 Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Hi, have they given a time frame for when this will take place? Or does anyone have an idea based on past examples of visa exempt time changes? Thanks

Popular Post Ironmike Posted March 18 Popular Post Posted March 18 This is the first smart thing Thailand has done in a long time let's hope it gets rid of the rubbish people coming here and even better let's pray it gets rid of all the Russians coming here and working illegally, setting up illegal businesses and doing what ever they want,,, Great job. 2 2 2

It's been a while but that's what I used to use.
Parker2100 Posted March 18 Posted March 18 They were recovering after COVID so now they can start collecting fees for every 30 days again. I think the Concern over the "abuse" is of slight concern. 1

BananaGuy Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Oh well done guys, I depart Australia in 10 days for a 5-week (35 day) stay in Thailand. When I booked everything last month the deal was 60 day visa-free - now it’s too late to get a visa from Sydney consulate, they take weeks. When does the 30 day thing take effect? Anyone know? 1
