If 1,000 small boats were crossing the channel in a single day - a bit like WW2 and Britain's small armada sent to Dunkirk to rescue soldiers trapped on the beaches of France - wouldn't there be aeriel shots from news helicopters, etc? It would fill the camera lens sweeping left to right. Not just a clip showing 15 or so migrants in life vests on a patrol boat?

Yes...I know what you are talking about. One fought and won a deportation order because he had started a family in the UK . The family members were himself and his cat.

 

Well, without change things will continue getting worse.  A start would be withdrawing funding for lawyers. If you want them to fight your case fine , but the state will stop paying for them. The state will not pay for anything at all

 

For too long , sucessive governments have promised tough action then once elected sat on their hands except to make it more difficult for qualified law abiding nurses etc to come and take jobs in the NHS. They then pat themselves on the back and say they are reducing net immigration.

 

Only now with Reform UK promising tougher action are the other parties going into panic mode.  Not because they are concerned about their obvious failure to deal with the problem but because they fear they may lose their comfy jobs to the new kids on the block.

 

Like it or not , there is a very high probability that Nigel Farage will become the PM in the future. Brexit happened by the narrowist of margins on account of the immigration issue and the expectation that the UK would regain control of its borders. Total failure but it does serve to illustrate that a large percent of the electorate are so concerned about the issue that they will go to any extreme in attempt to see some reform.

 

The UK is not sleepwalking into a disastrous future it is sprinting there with its eyes wide open.

Starmer will never intervene and lose the Muslim voters they have large votes for the labour party.

A lot of the Albanians have arrived by boats mogandave.  If they wanted to come to the UK from Albania they could fly direct from Tirana for £40. but they arrive as illegal migrants claiming there leaving a war zone.

Thailand would act, no doubt. The problem with Western countries (exceptions: U.S., Denmark, to some degree Italy) is, that governments there are all talk, but little substance.

 

Defense budgets are hiked up to counter an imaginary Russian aggression, while the war (IMHO) is already here; 100s of thousands of young male (jihadists?) each year, and weekly reports of one of these young men from Afghanistan, or Syria going on a killing spree with a car, or knife...

 

People in the West, esp. women, fearing for their safety and that of their children, while no 'real' refugees arrive, but only young males from particular war-stricken countries... Unless Europe wakes up, and sees the real threat to democracy, I have little hope that our societies will survive this in the long term.

 

Why not send troops to the Baltic, Polish, Bulgarian, Greek, etc., and all Mediterranean sea borders to turn people smugglers and those who, obviously, are no refugees, around? (I'm sure that this is exactly what Thailand would do in such a situation.)
