A violent incident in Phuket’s Bangla Road nightlife district has sparked widespread debate after two foreign tourists allegedly assaulted a Thai woman in a bar, prompting a group of local men to retaliate with a fierce physical attack that left the visitors unconscious.

The confrontation, which occurred in the Patong area of Kathu district, was captured in a 22-second video clip and widely shared by the local Facebook page โหดจัง จังหวัดภูเก็ต (Brutal Phuket). The footage shows several Thai men rushing to attack the two intoxicated tourists, reportedly after the pair slapped a woman inside the venue.

The attackers are seen punching and kicking the tourists, ultimately leaving both men motionless on the ground. The clip was captioned, “Low-quality tourists slap a woman in a bar and get thoroughly beaten in return.”

The incident has ignited a firestorm on Thai social media, with netizens expressing a range of reactions. While some praised the locals for defending the woman’s dignity, others lamented the rising violence and lawlessness tarnishing Phuket’s once, charming image.

Comments ranged from concern to applause:

• “Phuket gets more barbaric by the day. It’s losing its beauty due to a few selfish people.”

• “Incidents like this will drive away quality tourists. Who would feel safe with visa-free policies attracting this kind of behaviour?”

• “This needs to happen more often, fewer tourists might mean fewer problems.”

• “This isn’t about visas, it’s about people. We shouldn’t tolerate disrespectful behaviour from anyone.”

• “Well done to the Thai guys. That’s how you deal with it, give them something to remember.”

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, and it is unclear whether any arrests have been made. The viral video has further fuelled ongoing concerns about the safety of both locals and visitors amid increasing reports of crime and unruly behaviour.

There is, most probably, more to the story... 😉

Awesome! They got what they asked for! Don´t come to Thailand and act like arses. The best video I´ve seen this year! All foreigners who comes to Thailand and disrespect people, use violence, should be treated this way.

No need for that! Can´t it be enough with that they slapped a Thai woman. Why the heck would they do that? I know very well that Thai males stands for a huge part of domestic violence, but regular Thai people dislike them as well.

What do you mean more to the story? Did the Thai woman say something that offended them, and the only thing the silly morons could do was slap her?

Oh don't be a reverse racist

These young boys probably behaved like that in their country and didn't know

They needed behaviour guidance not assaulted

Comments on this page indicate that the foreigners were Israelis.

The usual suspects with their nauseating sycophancy.

@smedly of course is correct.

The others obviously have some kind of mental illness that precludes them from seeing the folly of their ways.

None of us know what happened and why it happened. Establishing the facts first would be the right course of action and holding them until the police arrived if necessary.

Perhaps the girl rejected their assertion that their money built her country...

I do absolute not approve the "tourists" behavior.

BUT

Understand "overnumbered" by thais and also drunk.

Why didnt they just take them outside and prevent from reentering ??

The thais had to use the opportunity to "kick daylight" out of them as well.

Scary....

And whats just as scary is all the approving comment from people on the web.

Ever heard of appropriate countermeasures ? 🙂

Talking about the local police and getting them to do things lawfully tells a lot about you.

Have you tried stand-up before?

I get the feeling that if a couple Thai guys walked into a country Western bar in the rural US South and slapped a gal working in the bar, the results would be the same.  The only difference would be the headlines about "Racist Whites Beat Defenseless Thais In Hate Motivated Assault."
And of course, the exact AN members who are cheering this beating of tourists in Thailand would be echoing those "Racist Whites Beat Defenseless Thais In Hate Motivated Assault" headlines in the US.

Funny how that works, 'eh?

These Thai guys could care less about the lady. It just made an excuse for a good stomping. We've seen this behavior time and time again. I'm not defending the foreigners just stating a known fact. Thai men love a one sided brutal attack, much like the soi dogs I've encountered.

Naw there would be bullets.

Rule #1: Dont start or participate in a bar fight in the USA

Yes, it's funny that you created a racist scenario all by yourself and then present it as a fait accompli. Congratulations ㊗️

How do you know that the foreigners initiated the confrontation? Usually, it is the local Bangla merchant caught  in a dishonest act.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching that video.

these women are cash cows for the tourism industry.

that's one reason they may react so strongly. just a hunch.

The video is very unclear and only shows a snippet of the violence. There may well have been kicks to the head. I wonder how they are feeling today. Concussed? Unconscious?

I think thats overthinking the 'intelligence' of those dishing out the beating... Evenkeel is right, these guys don't care at all about the woman in question...   They are 'trigger-finger-locals' looking for an excuse...

What we are seeing the tail end snippet of an 'incident' from a social media post and 'told' what happened by the original social media poster.

One of the major issues Social Media Posts (original source not the AN report) is the influence of sensationalism. Opinions are drawn from short, highly selective or incomplete video snippets posted on social media – such clips designed to provoke, outrage, or mislead. They typically present the worst angle of an event, often from an extremely biased perspective, and rarely provide the full context.

So - what was the full context ???

I'm not condoning the men hitting a woman (any woman), but, why is there never any 'lead up' in these social media stories to give us context...   i.e did the woman slap the men a few times until they had enough and slapped her back etc ? - (I'm not suggesting this is what happened - just that there is more to the story that could offer an explanation as to how and why things escalated)...

Or, did the woman simply say something the men took offence to so the 'animals' slapped her for hardly any reason at all ??

Was there a padded or contested bill and the woman become argumentative and physical ?

I've seen guys in similar situations - one guy paid up and left a bar - the other guy was handed the bill for both of them - he contested the bill and things got heated, girls shrieking and arguing with him, pushing him, while he remained calm - he took out his phone and showed the QR payment receipt of the of the other guy - the cashier accepted this 'accidental' double charge - but a few of the girls were already angry by that stage and looking for a problem with the guy !!...    the guy did well to completely decompress a situation and stay chilled - others would have become a social media story...

Dickie ol' boy, our paths cross once again.

Regarding women, there is an unwritten law of the jungle where men are never supposed to lay a hand on a woman. Even if she started it, deserves a slap, is pushing your buttons. Always walk away from women if you find yourself getting angry. She is allowed to slap you, but not the other way around.

Regarding looking for an excuse to attack ... maybe. I went into a bar once and saw a sign saying "No fighting. Fine of 200,000 Baht" or something like that. My impression is they're desperate to avoid fights in these bars based on a sign like that. And that there must be a lot of fights or near fights that break out -- initiated by tourists, not thais -- for the fine to be that high.
