A construction incident occurred on the afternoon of 9 June, when a large crane collapsed at the site of a 67-storey condominium in Pattaya, sending workers fleeing in panic. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or fatalities.

The incident took place around 13:00 on Soi Thap Phraya 15. The crane’s boom, which was lifting a cement bucket, buckled and collapsed during the operation. Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos as construction workers scrambled to safety.

In response, Pattaya City Mayor Poramet Ngampichet ordered an immediate suspension of all construction activities at the site, citing urgent safety concerns. “Our first priority is to ensure the safety of all workers and nearby residents,” said the mayor. “An investigation is already underway to determine the cause of the collapse.”

Preliminary findings suggest that over 30 storeys of the building had already been constructed. During the operation, the crane’s boom reportedly bent and gave way, causing steel cables to snap. The crane’s boom then fell against the structure of the building itself.

Engineers from the Pattaya City Engineering Office are now tasked with examining the equipment in detail to determine whether the crane failed due to structural weakness or because it was overloaded beyond standard limits. Construction will remain suspended until a full safety assessment is completed and authorities are satisfied that the site is secure.

Must be the Grand Solaire on Thappraya Road. Crazy to build these monster condos, 67 stories and 2,500 rooms. Imagine what the traffic will be like when it's finished.

Most likely scenario.

So they are not looking into if it's assembly was done incorrectly at the site?

The land of falling cranes! One a week is usual.....

Given the traffic levels around the lights at the Pratumnak intersection if the crane had toppled in that direction it could have been carnage.

I'm presuming there has been zero thought by the powers that be to the absolute traffic gridlock that is going to result when that condo is finished. I can see a scenario in peak season where traffic is backed up half way down the hill. Crazy they allowed something that big to be built with the infrastructure limitations.

I don't know who is buying in there but given the sheer scale I suspect it would be reasonable to assume this could be another AirBNB job used more as a hotel than a permanent residence. That is just going to increase the traffic scenario above.

Personally I find it a little sad that they now allow the seemingly ever increasing height of condo blocks here. Just look how it dwarfs every other building around it.

Did there not used to be some rule that you could not go over 8 stories many years ago?

I believe it was (and basically still is) 8 stories within 'x' distance from the sea

I have no confidence in any tall structures in Thailand. I don't trust the quality of the foundations.

If only I had a list of fallen cranes in Thailand.

That would be a long one.

At least no deaths this time.

Not to worry.  They'll have pre-sold enough units to make a profit before it becomes apparent that they have just created a gridlock slum.

Maybe this construction pause will cause a brown envelope gridlock?

What a monstrosity of a building,  no doubt blocking out the sun from many neighboring properties! A true blot on the landscape.

Some size of a condo. Is that the one opposite APEX ?  Are they good value ? Are they hotel room size ?

Add wind gust to the equation, been blowing pretty good on Phratamnak the last week or so

And, according to the OP, what we see in the photo is just half the height of the completed building.

Shouldn't that be the hub of falling cranes?

Think of the nightmare of being on an upper floor in a fire
