Only 69 baht for a large can, cheaper that Brooks, Watties etc. Thought they did not taste quite like I remembered them so had a look at the tin. They are made in CHINA, i'm not eating communist beans, don't trust food coming out of China, draw the there.

And communist ketchup? Where do you think all the tomato paste comes from?

Personally draw the line at anything that causes gastritis.

At Best Supermarket in Pattaya they have been selling for 59 Baht. The price at Villa Market last week was 139 Baht.

Heinz, HQ in Pittsburgh USA, have production plants all over the world. If you are in the UK that would likely be Wigan where your beans are coming from.

You probably should stop reading labels, 'come from' part, as you'll find USA branded, (if even still a USA product), probably isn't imported from the USA.  Though still priced silly, as if it was :coffee1:

May want to consider not eating out at restaurants also, as most of herbs & spices, especially if bought in bulk, is probably coming from CN.

You may see Thai addresses on many food items, although, that might just be the importers address, not the producer of.

'Bush Baked Beans'

Now that conjures up images !

Used to be 59 baht at Big C. I didn't check the label so won't be buying anymore. I was buying some chips in GO and the cheapest 95 baht 2kgs had a big label "Produce of China". Gave those a miss. Heavens knows what toxic chemicals they use to grow them.

Undoubtedly, the most nutritious baked beans are the Ayam light brand from SGP.

With just a serving of 115g you have 125mg of sodium, 4g protein, 5g fibre and 90 calories.

Now that's what I call healthy.

On my very first trip to Thailand and Pattaya back in September 2004, I brought in my carry on: Big plastic jar of Heinz Catsup, a big glass jar of Pickled eggs, a jar of Pickled carrots, all for a bar owner there.  Can't even imagine that many liquids as I go through the TSA line today.  never mind the mess if one of those jars broke on the planes from LAX  To BKK.  Correction, I actually flew into Don Muang at the time.  I miss that airport

They had two different versions on sale in Gourmet recently, the original one at 130 baht and the 69 baht version next to it. The expensive tin had a paper label, the cheap one had a sort of plasticky laminate.

Bought by Heinz but still trading as Watties.

Never bought them since they lied on TV.

Asked why there is more juice now than beans, having removed 57 beans from each tin........."It was in response to customer demand".....Lying *****

Branston 69B Lazada.

It's easy to just buy the cheapest beans and create your own taste. I can't remember the last time I ate baked beans just as they are when the come out of the can.

I always add bits, according to what I'm eating with.

Black pepper, my own BBQ mix, cider vinegar, liquid smoke, paprika, garlic salts, balsamic, chili, salt, etc.

I've seen Bush's at Big-C 'foreign imports' aisle - I think at Villa too. Will give them a try. The Ayem local brand seems ok - including the lower sugar version. Certainly cheaper. BTW, is Foodland EVER going to open a new location in Bangkok ? (I like their Took Lae Dee lunch counter). Nearest one to me is at The Street on Ratchadapisek - but it's still a bit far away. Foodland doesn't have as much western food as Villa, but they are better than others, and a bit better value.
