ahhh ok so a bottle of booze is a spur of the moment purchase that you do not plan ahead for.

Now how about the damn supermarkets? If you are interested in increasing sales, lower the tax.

When laws no longer are useful, applicable, or easy to work around, they should be scrapped for the most part. This is a good step in the right direction.

Yes... For some people having alcohol on hand 24/7 isn't a priority so we don't "plan" to buy it. We just buy it when we happen to be in a shop that's open (and able to sell it).

I must admit to stocking up in covid times, but otherwise I never "plan" to buy house booze.

Yet you still won't be able to buy it in Tesco etc during these times 🙄🙈

For me, it's good to see something has been done about the availability of a glass of wine with a meal

If they could also do something about the ridiculous price / quality ratio caused by the outragous import duties on wine I'd be a whole lot happier

No, it's a food shopping thing that I do when shopping for food, so it's more of an afterthought - I'm there for the food but if it's too early in the day then I get caught out because I forgot about the dumb alcohol sales rules.

It's not the end of the world but it is an inconvenience and I generally never buy only one of anything - why buy one of a long shelf life product when you can simply purchase 2 or 3 of them - which I always do - the only problem with this approach is you can forget to replenish them when you run low as you're accustomed to having a shelf full of whatever it is....

Not with alcohol, bur I have a similar strategy to you with my sundries. I have a draw full of "spares" for deodorant, kitchen foil, detergent, shampoo etc so that I'm never caught short.

However I also keep a "shopping list" on my phone. Whenever I take the last of a given item, I add it to the shopping list. That means that I don't forget to stock up, but I still have plenty of time to get replacements in. I don't have to worry about running out in the meantime; I'll just buy the new stock whenever I happen to be out shopping.

Yeah me too, sometimes I like to buy some wine or a bottle of brandy and I have to hold off shopping until 5pm and sometimes I forget about that dumb rule.

Or you could  'go shopping'  between 11 and 2pm.

I like to sleep in. The supermarket is a drive. Often have trouble getting there by 14:00. Stupid law causing inconvenience.

I've never found this a problem in restaurants,

Only 711, and Tesco, inforced this, same as Buddhist holidays never inforced out in the sticks!

All restaurants I know sold alcohol anyway. No big deal

Not for me - I go later in the day - never before 2pm

Also I might 'go shopping' only every 2 weeks at most, the Mrs goes the rest of the time - for fresh food and the likes.

Or you could toss a useless law.

which called for an update to the antiquated 1972 law that restricted alcohol sales during these hours.

I moved to Thailand 24 years ago. This was NOT in effect. 2003 or so, they had a big "CRACDOWN" on minors buying beer as soon as school was let loose.......Nevermind checking ID cards. Just ban booze sales right after school. Brilliant!

I happen to be at Tesco or Big C at 3:00 PM & want to grab a case of beer for the week ahead...too bad, so sad. Mai Dai.

Funny story, my cousin bought a 6 - pack when he was 18 in Florida (drinking age is 21 in Florida). The cops were all undercover, watching the place. He said there were 5 cop cars all over him as he walked out. Poor guy got cuffed & stuffed, as did the store owner.

Aren't the kids that are buying alcohol during these hours ment to be in school!

Seems that is not convenient for some !

They wait until 5pm.

Why should he? What you must understand, is that this is an error and will be corrected, as there are more additional laws that must be corrected to fully legalize the sale.

He understands that, as he is in the business.

Not a big deal only restaurants gain

When I go out to the beach in Hua Hin alcohol is available anytime

Plus what about 7/11 and others about time this rule no sale 2PM -5 PM was abolished think of the sales 💰 🤑  to be made there 😀

Get into the 21st Century

As all 711s also sell food these days, they can also claim to be restaurants and therefore can sell alcohol also between 2-5 pm.

You mean get to the front of the queue at the checkout before 2pm.

What about people who work shifts like 6am-2pm? One advantage is that they can go shopping on the way home when it's not busy. Why should they wait 3 hours and then make an extra trip during rush hour? 🤔

Did they manage to remove restrictions from 7/11? The worst thing about this idiot law is that if you read the signs in the shops regarding the sale of booze, it appears to be perfectly legal to buy booze in the "restricted" hours, providing the amount of booze purchased is obviously for a business or a raging alcoholic - I forget the amount, it might be a case or two. Try getting the shops to abide by this "NON LAW" - I have not found one single shop that is willing to sell booze during these hours for the amount stated to be legal by the government, you can even point to their own damn signs at checkout telling them this but they refuse to sell.

No helping some people.

Was 5 litre before in makro I think . Basically if you want to spend lots we will serve you 😀

25%! Wow, I would have pegged it at no more than 24.9%. Then again, my number was plucked out of thin air whereas their number was …….hmm, where DID their number come from?

Grok:... The ban on alcohol sales in Thailand from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. was introduced in 1972 under a military regime led by Field Marshal Thanom Kittikachorn. According to sources, the primary intent was to address issues with civil servants engaging in extended lunchtime drinking, leading to hangovers, reduced productivity, or failure to return to work in the afternoons.

Yeah I do not keep booze on hand 24/7... I do know when I will need to purchase it though and schedule my time accordingly.

What is the definition of a restaurant? We have coffee shops that have beer as well.

Sit down and eat a meal
