The Corrections Department has denied claims that former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra purchased pizzas for guards and inmates at Klong Prem Central Prison. Instead, they stated that the pizzas were provided by external parties during a traffic management operation near the prison. This refutes accusations made by Watchara Phetthong, a former Democrat Party MP, suggesting Thaksin used the gesture to gain influence within the prison.

 

The department clarified that the pizzas, bought on September 13, were intended for police and prison officials working on traffic and security outside the facility. Kanokwan Jiewchuaphan, Nonthaburi prison director and deputy spokeswoman, emphasized the provision was unrelated to Thaksin. Watchara's allegations also mentioned excessive spending, surpassing inmate limits, which the department dismissed as a misunderstanding.

 

Regarding formalities, Kanokwan noted that prison directors occasionally permit inmates to hold small parties, such as for New Year celebrations or birthdays. However, these events are infrequent to prevent any potential misuse of influence among inmates.

 

Thaksin continues to be housed in the prison's treatment area, engaging in activities such as reading. Recently, he underwent a lung x-ray from the facility’s mobile screening unit, which is a standard procedure for new inmates to check for pulmonary tuberculosis. While he had a medical check-up, no significant health issues were reported, though the results from the lung x-ray are still awaited.

 

As for family interactions, Klong Prem permits inmate visits twice weekly. On Thursday, Thaksin's daughter, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, and his lawyer, Winyat Chartmontree, are scheduled to visit. They will also discuss his parole eligibility with the prison.

So he has no health issues, but is being kept in the hospital anyway. Sounds familiar! And I must admit that I personally have never had to wait for the "results" from a lung x-ray - a skilled radiologist can generally tell at a glance whether there are any anomalies requiring further study.

Well denying that he bought the pizzas does not say that someone else bought them on his belated.

In further sinister developments it was discovered that there was pineapple on the pizza. If proven this raises the seriousness of the offence to a Hate crime and involves much more serious penalties! 😤
