Dutch Man Caught Stealing ATM in Khon Kaen

10 million baht for a restaurant that must have been a pretty fancy place maybe he was going for a Michelin star. Sounds like the wife tapped him out and the man got desperate, but an ATM of all things. Of all crimes, this has to be one of the dumbest. The chances of succeeding are just slightly higher than the chances of robbing a bank successfully.

This is almost at the stupidity level of the 2 NZ guys who assaulted the cop and took his gun off him. (The most stupid thing that I had heard of after having lived there for 20 years.)

  • Aaah, yes, the old story...........Foreigner gives wife millions of baht, things go pear shaped.    Oh well, original ending, ATM theft. 😂 I love the Dutch 👍

  • Unpopular opinion.   It's always long timers causing the biggest problems 🙄

  • An old Dutchman attempted to steal an ATM. This sounds like something out of a bad movie.

During the police interview, Sijtse reportedly said he had previously given his Thai wife more than 10 million baht to open a restaurant and support their household. He claimed a recent argument over insufficient funds prompted him to drive out and commit the theft (...)

Why? Does the wife own the ATM? 😆

He was charged with “nighttime “ theft ! That’s very serious!

Yes, under the Thai penal code(section 335 - Aggravated Theft) a thief at nigh in Thailand faces tougher legal consequences than one stealing during the day, because the law assumes increased danger and vulnerability of victims.

6 years is not a long timer. Many foreigners have been here for 20-30 years plus. In my own case I first arrived here in1962. We do not rob banks, and we abide by the law, mostly.

35+ years here, no crimes no problems!

Shocking! Remember; always switch off and unplug an appliance before moving it.

Another scumbag alien made an ugly headline.

Attempted to snatch an street ATM with chain tied up to the car?

He will soon be walking in a chain in the Thai stockade.

Tried to rob the money-filled machine with chain.

He will be walking in chain in weeks  behind the wall!..

One theory could be that he was sick and tired of going to the ATM to get money out for the girlfriend so he decided to take the ATM home and she could use it at will

Interesting:

  • are not permitted to sell cannabis to minors;
  • are not permitted to advertise drugs;
  • are not permitted to sell large quantities (over 5 grams of cannabis) in a single transaction.

"Sijtse reportedly said he had previously given his Thai wife more than 10 million baht to open a restaurant and support their household. He claimed a "recent argument over insufficient funds prompted him to drive out and commit the theft"

He turned out to be just as stupid as his wife.

10 million baht is the huge amount(over USD 310000).

Seemingly more than enough for starting a small diner in provincial town.

And carried out ATM heist for the greater budget, without second thought?

"by using the pickup, belonging to his wife’s relative, to drag the ATM away from the front of the shop"

Did he/his wife tell its owner what it is used for when borrowing that car?

And it works pretty good!

He must of been really desperate as Thailand has CCTV cameras everywhere. His car would have been identified within minutes. Not hours. Stupid man threw his life away for what? Hopefully, he can explain his actions  and why on this forum.

It would have been better off having a pint of Heineken and some bitter ball and a edam cheese

Haha, bit of a Darwin Awards case here. I mean, how did his deluded mind think this was going to work out properly?

Even if, and it's huge if, he somehow managed to get the ATM somewhere concealed, how are you going to open it without getting sprayed with the nasty ink that goes all over you and the notes so that it all can be traced... including you? There are other security features too that he probably doesn't know about either... much more complicated to open an ATM than just grab an acetylene torch and off you go, oh no.

Bet the cops at that station are having a right good laugh over beers after work about the Dutch numpty foreigner.

Why’s the cop pointing a gun at the ATM — does he think it’s armed too?

There is no picture/video of any officer "pointing a gun at the ATM".

Sijtse reportedly said he had previously given his Thai wife more than 10 million baht to open a restaurant and support their household. He claimed a recent argument over insufficient funds prompted him to drive out and commit the theft,

So he gave a woman all his money, 10 million baht, and the woman was still not satisfied and asked him for more money.

And another man's life ruined by a woman.
