Featured Replies

Dear Folks,

Who cares about being 48, when one can be 17, anyway, in NOTTINGHAM?

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS FACE.....!!!!!!!!!!

When we were 17, you and I were all exceptional specimens.....

Do you recall what you felt like when you were 17?

What was life like then, for you?

Were you British, back then?

Because, as we all know....

Nobody is really British, these days.....RIGHT???

I love lamb vindaloo....

At 17, I was very active in the stop the Vietnam War protests.

I had my first sex in a Quaker Church pew on the floor.

Excited to be just out of high school, I sat my father down to let him know that I was grown up, much taller than him, and too old to follow his rules anymore. He informed me I would be packing my things and moving out before the end of the day. Leaving the nest is where freedom and adventure begins.

Awesome - I was a first year university student, away from home and parents for the first home.

1980. Dirt poort, last year of high school, living with distant relatives, planning on joining the Army, the other option was being  homeless and listeing to Foreigner songs.  Foreigner helped me get through a miserable and hopeless chiledhood.  "Feels like the first time" and "Cold As Ice".

1978 - the tail end of the best music years, late 60’s to late 70’s, imho.

Had left school was into my apprenticeship, life was good, had money in my pocket and was discovering alcohol and girls !!

Long hot summers, holidays with the mates ( alcohol and girls ! ), learnt to drive !

Mistakes were made but all part of the learning process, influence from others was difficult to resist ( tattoos and smoking ).

Future retirement was a long long way off and as soon as money was earned it was spent on clothes and records and alcohol and girls !!

If I could go back would i change things ?, definitely !, but the excitement of being 17 and the experience gained meant i wouldn’t change much !

Worst year of my life.  Can't remember some of it after a terrible head injury involving a stunt in the back of truck  travelling at high speed on the first day of the year.  Was able to walk on my own a month after even though I don't remember doing it and spent the next 18 months getting my confidence back to where it was prior.

In a weird way, it was the best thing that ever happened to me and altered the path I was on prior.  I stopped wanting to be normal and by 19 started being more the person I wanted to be or at least thought I wanted to be. How I got to that point was messy but probably most people are erratic in their late teens.  I'm pretty happy with who I am so terrible 17 was a good year.

@ 17 life was great.

Making good coin selling pot and running amok on my parents farm racing around in the shooting buggy killing the wildlife.

Lost my virginity in the back of my 63 Ford. Joined the Navy and lost it again in Puerto Rico and Kingston and Port of Spain Trinidad.

Plagiarizing Franks lyrics ?

Yes , of course! , you don't think I came up with those lines at my age, everything I say is plagiarised 🤣

The song was written (music & lyrics) by Ervin Drake and yes , I looked that up...🤣

But....

There ARE no Quaker Churches....

Only Quaker Meeting Houses.

I thought you said you were smart enough to have retired at age 48.

Got a GF, working as a welder construction, got a gf, motorbike and just started skydiving, so life was good.

And this was the song of the year

17?

I was Dazed and Confused.

Refer to the movie of the same name.

At 17, I was still living with my parents. Both of whom were most helpful supporting me with everything as I prepared hard for entering University to get an Engineering degree. At 18, I was the last of their 4 children to leave home. Life has been mostly good since then for all of us siblings and our children.

You cannot lose your virginity twice unless you are referring to losing your straight virginity and then your gay virginity or vice versa!

:partytime2:

That would be 1967 for me, the place was rocking I was earning good money and working all over the country building betting shops, I was a follower of fashion always dress trendy,

Manchester had to be one of the best places in the UK for nightlife and music, I was there when the Northern Soul burst on to the scene. I was riding around on my Lambretta.

I had long left home, I was living in a bed sit in Harperhey in the next street to Bernard Mannings club, the house was full of paddys building the motorways, McAlpine Fusiliers, boy could they drink,

That was absolutely the best year in my life. Still a basketball player with great promsie and dreams of making the NBA.

Went to see Michael Jackson live in Concert.

Invited by 4 girls to visit them in their home town, then had them fighting over where I would stay.

Chatted up by a lovely girl who showed me how to dance the Pasodoble on a Spanish fiesta.

Life could not have been better.

Fair enough. I met my first wife at a Quaker meeting house.

As to being smart enough to retire early, I have to reallyput that down about 85% to dumb ass luck.

Not much has changed then?

1952 in London. A hard life, but I enjoyed it. Leading a Londoner's life. Now on the endangered list.😢

Way better than now, as it wasn't so complicated and there was no social media to be toxic to so many fragile minds and make them angry.
