Dear Folks,

Who cares about being 48, when one can be 17, anyway, in NOTTINGHAM?

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS FACE.....!!!!!!!!!!

When we were 17, you and I were all exceptional specimens.....

Do you recall what you felt like when you were 17?

What was life like then, for you?

Were you British, back then?

Because, as we all know....

Nobody is really British, these days.....RIGHT???

I love lamb vindaloo....

I love Chungking Mansions....

Some day....LONDON will become Bombay....maybe....

I need this on SPOTIFY....so bad.....

Regards,....

Finney was already 24 and half the movie was shot in London. So he'd probably had his exceptional moment already/

Did you knock it up over?

I still pine for hippie sex.

But I tried my luck on Koh Phagnan and I fear that that ship has sailed for good.

It was great, man. The year was 1986. I was on top of the world. I was young. The future stretched before me like a never ending tapestry with unlimited possibilities. Nothing could stop me or slow me down.

...except getting older.

I was seventeen for most of 1975, in Grade 13 in Ontario, Canada. As it was the final year before entering university, it was important to get good grades, as acceptance was based on your marks in  six grade 13 subjects. Feeling rather confident (arrogant) about my academic abilities, I decided it was a good year to go skiing, so I skipped weeks and weeks of school (with my parent's blessing if my marks were ok)  as I had a season's pass to a nearby ski hill. I had four friends of similar mind, so we rotated going to school with a cassette tape recorder - the tape would then be copied on a "double deck" four times, and distributed to each member of our group. Interestingly, listening to my  classes alone in my room proved to be a better strategy than attending classes and getting distracted by all the pretty girls. Somehow, we all managed to gain acceptance to university, and I went skiing 63 times that winter, which was a good deal considering that I had paid a grand total of $50 for my season's pass.

In a corn field, during one of those glorious summer afternoons near the river... No condom, but still had my varicocele then.

Weren't we lucky.

Flower Power , 1967 ,I think   it all seems a bit hazy !

That would be the year 1974.  Born and raised in little town in Rhode Island.  Had a very fun high school playing various sports in my Junior yearl.  Some very good friends.  Enjoyed camping and hiking in New Hampshire.  Hanging out at a buddies summer house in New Hampshire and fooling around with the local girls who were quite stunning actually.  Dad had just bought a deli and lounge which meant I had to quit my paying job at Burger Chef and now work long hours and most days of the week for no pay at the deli.  Opening it in the morning, working through lunch, then returning on Friday and Saturday nights to close the Lounge at 1 AM.  I still found time to work with a friend on various house projeccts, roofing, siding, etc where I actually got paid.

Had some of the most enjoyable hours of my life jamming in our rock and roll band with my buddies.  I was an OK guitar player.  Did a few gigs.  We have winters in Rhode Island and being indoors in the winter but warm and having good company and positive things to do were just great experiences.  Heck, one of my friends even had a huge HO model train setup we worked on while listening to the great music of that era.  Another friend had slot cars and we had a weekly race night in his basement.  Just good simple clean fun hanging out.  No drugs, no drunks.  Sounds silly today maybe but the homes were great, the parents of my friends were great.  All withing one mile walking distance which we walked to and from.  I used to cut across the wannamoisett golf course at night which was very peaceful and good for star gazing also as there were no street lights on the golf course so the sky was relatively dark.

I was on the cross country team and the wrestling team and was getting pretty good.  Was in fantastic shape.  At the end of the year I stumbled into Tae Kwon Do which I pursued on and off for 20 years which has helped me greatly through the years (now 68).

Enjoyed working on my and my friend's cars.  None of us came from money so we did all our own car work.  Several of us had 1930 antique model A fords we were restoring.  Oh what fun.  Going to the first spring big car auctions and shows were something to look forward to after the winter has railed off.  Many of you can not understand how fun and exhilirating spring can be after a winter unless you have lived in winter areas.

back to some weeks in New Hampshire in the summer swimming in the lake, going fishing, skateboarding down the country road at crazy high speeds with lookouts posted at the intersection to warn us of any cars coming.

Mrs Vartanian, my best friend's mom.  RIP.  My second mother in a sense.

Riding my friend's mini bike down at the reservoir.

Simpler times for sure.

So I graduated High school the next year 1975.  I just attended my 50th High School reunion, flying up from Florida to Rhode Island.  what a great experience.  I miss the familiarity we had in school and in those times.

Ah..Quaker oats.

I was in an avant-garde garden punk band. We were so terrible it pains me to think of it even now.

Later I played triangle in a reggae band but left because of constant arguments.

Just one ting after another.

Way better than now, as it wasn't so complicated and there was no social media to be toxic to so many fragile minds and make them angry.

Times have sure changed, mostly for the worse.

Nothing has changed then.

1967 seems very far away.  I can hardly remember anything about that year. 1993 is more focused and clear.

Would you happen to remember?

American, at 17 I was beginning Vietnamese language school so remember that year clearly as I had just graduated from HS and the following year enroute to VN - 1965.

i wish i could reply you. But i never got to 17. I went from 15 to 21 overnight. Taking on responsibilities like employment and paying rent and purchasing a motorcycle first, then a car. Also, my gf at that time was 21.

Fair enough. I met my first wife at a Quaker meeting house.

As to being smart enough to retire early, I have to reallyput that down about 85% to dumb ass luck.

Yes.

I know that it could not have been a church.

Because, the Quakers just hate hierarchical structures, which is probably why they detest both the army and attending Church.

War has always been anathema to Quakers.

But, screwing in pews is probably OK with most Quakers.

a. Truly a wonderful movie, and too few are made as well, these days.

b. I always love watching black/white films of London (or the UK for that matter)..pre-1967.  Due to rampant social change and mostly due to rampant migration from the South, or "you-know-where", the fantastic culture of London and the UK is gone forever.

Therefore, the only way to half-way experience this lost culture, once more, is through viewing films Pre-1967.  But, unfortunately, I probably have watched them all...by now.

That would be 1967 for me, the place was rocking I was earning good money and working all over the country building betting shops, I was a follower of fashion always dress trendy,

Manchester had to be one of the best places in the UK for nightlife and music, I was there when the Northern Soul burst on to the scene. I was riding around on my Lambretta.

I had long left home, I was living in a bed sit in Harperhey in the next street to Bernard Mannings club, the house was full of paddys building the motorways, McAlpine Fusiliers, boy could they drink,

Ever visit the Twisted Wheel on Whitworth St?

My birthday is at the end of the year so for me 17 is actual 18th year. 🤔

Off Lambretta and into first car.

Me and a few mates started as a team racing a BRISCA F2 Stock Car so a bit nerdy spending every evening building , modifying, repairing and the the last hour in the pub.

Still an apprentice.

Don't recall much else or I do but can't pin a date on it.

I was part of the furniture, I still have all the music

At that age I gave my parents a lot of worry and grief. Angry young man.

I remember what a Grandad said -- Good luck. You're gonna need it.

I remember seeing Jnr Walker and the All Stars there, used to travel on the train from Congleton, scoring a few Bluies from the Stoke lads who were already on the train, happy days.

PS

Had a pee next to Jimmy Ruffin!

In the morning when the wheel was closing, we used to go to a place called Hollinwood on the way to Oldham another club called the Top Twenty sometimes would be open all day,
