I'm no lawyer, but if they can decide to proceed without a warrant, what's the point of applying for one?

The owners of the hotel, or people who ran the hotel allowed the search to happen? Is a warrant needed when that is the case?

"arrested for “selling a type 1 narcotic...". To split hairs, like a decent lawyer should, where is the evidence he was 'selling'? Not saying he could claim drugs were 'for personal use' 😉

Not a good career choice, ya think?

Maybe additional evidence the human brain is not set til late 20's

Doubtful the 9 kg was for personal use. That amount is charged as trafficking.

Defense has a better chance of arguing an illegal search.

Midnight Express sequel?🙃🙃

Loved that film when I was a kid, but the last 10 minutes or so is fabricated (not true).
The true story is told in a documentary on Youtube. His (real) escape from prison was
very different to how it is depicted in the flm.

I was then 20 year old....neat ending.🙃🙃

It was neat because it wasn't true🙃🙃
Billy Hayes was actually in a prison on an island, and after he made-good his escape
he climbed into a rowing boat that was on the beach and rowed away to freedom.

All of that stuff about the prison guard being about to rape him, and then using his uniform and keys to escape was untrue.

Just another stupid young Brit.  He's too clean cut to rot in a Thai prison. He'll do a bit of time before being transfered back home to complete his sentence.  Not a tattooed member of the British underclass so he'll probably get a job offer in The City.

All of you guys who think that tattoos don't mater take note.  This guy won't be treated like one of you or your inked up hussies.

That is generally true, but it should be noted that King George V had a tattoo on his forearm.

Don't know the law in Thailand but proceeding without a search warrant is allowed?

The hotel owns the room and let them in voluntarily?

A 23-year-old British man has been arrested in Bangkok after police found more than 9 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine in his hotel room. Officers from Metropolitan Police Division 5 detained Mr. Wilson George Henry Allaway with the drugs, which were packed in bags and stored inside a large suitcase. He now faces charges of possessing and distributing a category 1 narcotic with intent to sell.

The arrest took place on 30 September 2025 following a tip-off from an informant who reported that a foreign man was keeping drugs in a hotel on Sukhumvit Soi 11, Bangkok. The suspect had checked into a fourth-floor room and was reportedly waiting to deliver the narcotics to a customer, possibly out of the country. Fearing the drugs might be moved or destroyed, police decided to proceed without a search warrant and coordinated with hotel staff to access the room.

When officers knocked on the door, Mr. Allaway opened it and police identified themselves before explaining the search. As he did not speak or read Thai, Police Lieutenant Colonel Phongthanin Bumrungsuksawasti, who speaks English, translated the request. Inside, officers found a pink SWISS+ brand suitcase on the bed containing 10 packets branded GUANYIN tea, each filled with crystal methamphetamine, weighing a total of 9,152 grams.

Mr. Allaway admitted the drugs were his and was informed he would be arrested for “selling a type 1 narcotic (methamphetamine or crystal meth) with intent to distribute.” He was taken, along with the evidence, to Metropolitan Police Division 5 to complete the arrest report. The suspect later told police that he had received the drugs from another British man known only as “Snoopy” and was being paid 20,000 baht to store them before passing them on to a buyer.

The case has now been handed to investigators at Lumpini Police Station for further legal proceedings. Authorities are expected to pursue the source of the narcotics and identify the man referred to as “Snoopy.” Mr. Allaway remains in custody pending the outcome of the investigation and formal charges.

Was Snoopy too busy fighting the Red Baron to deliver the drugs himself

A 23-year-old British man with 9 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine - No need to blame the informants, maybe they did him a favor which might make him see reality, at 23.

Imagine getting caught in Singapore or Saudi...

Add another 10 years to his sentence, for having a pink suitcase.

The drugs  I can understand ( High risk, easy money ) but a Pink suitcase.

Looking on the bright side, he will be fluent in the Thai language in a couple of years.

or on the flip side...   he will be filled by Thai guys .  and probably very soon

Imagine how his parents and family feel. Thank God he's not my child.

I think long-tern residents are familiar with the idea that drug dealers will rat out someone now and then so that the police look like they are doing a good job.

Was that your experience? 🙂

The guy is a complete idiot, but not exactly a critical cog in the distribution channel.  All he did was receive a suitcase with the intent of passing it on unmolested.  Not selling it.  Not subdividing it.

I hope the authorities are more interested in the identity and whereabouts of Snoopy and his organization.  Maybe to the point this guy can make a deal.

Of course, I'm open to the possibility that there is no Snoopy and he's lying through his crooked British teeth. (A nod to Austin Powers, not a slam on the Brits)

So who was the informant that knew about it and who were the suppliers and customer. Seems they aren't interested in anyone apart from this guy as plastered him all over the news so the others will be hiding I'm sure.

Looks like a perfect set up !!

"The suspect later told police that he had received the drugs from another British man known only as “Snoopy” and was being paid 20,000 baht to store them before passing them on to a buyer."

One more idiot trying a shortcut to riches will end up in Bang Kwang Central Prison for the rest of his life.

What an ignorant judgemental comment and what a clueless person you are.  I know of a consultant doctor that is inked from just below his collar down and just above his wrists up.

Also, just typing this guy's name into google reveals that he may not be as squeaky clean as he looks.  Listed as being a director of 3 separate companies all on the same day and resigning from all 3 on the very same day.  Very strange behaviour although his dad is also listed there, so he may have just been coerced into helping him out without knowing what he was doing?  It does raise questions though?
