German Tourist Discovers Aussie Partner Unresponsive in Phuket

A German tourist, Perry Shamiri, experienced a devastating incident at a luxury Phuket resort when he discovered 47-year-old Australian Karla Drescher, originally from New Zealand, unresponsive after a night together. The pair had met at a bar near Kata Beach and later returned to Drescher's room at Sawasdee Village Resort, where they spent the night drinking and engaging in intimate activities. Shamiri had written a heartfelt note expressing gratitude for the night, only to find the Karla unresponsive later that morning.

Authorities suspect Drescher died of cardiac arrest due to an accidental overdose of anxiety medication combined with alcohol between 6.30 and 8.30 a.m. on October 27. She was later found by the resort's cleaning staff. Shamiri, still intoxicated, was reportedly in tears beside her, stating that he realized she wasn't breathing when staff knocked around noon.

Local police found no signs of foul play in the room where medications, including antidepressants, and alcohol were discovered. Shamiri was cleared of any involvement after testing negative for drugs and has since left Thailand. The precise cause of death awaits a post-mortem examination, as confirmed by Lieutenant Phirawat Yodtor.

In response to the tragedy, Drescher's son, Travis Deveraux, has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to repatriate his mother’s body to Australia. He expressed his sorrow over learning of her death through his own inquiries, calling the resort directly after lack of official notification. "She was my best friend. She was healthy and not unwell," Deveraux stated.

Thai authorities continue to investigate the matter to ascertain all contributing factors. Drescher's family is left seeking closure as they await further findings. The case highlights the risks associated with combining alcohol with medication and the importance of timely notifications in such incidents.

Key Takeaways

  • Karla Drescher was discovered unresponsive after a suspected accidental overdose.
  • Perry Shamiri was cleared of wrongdoing following police investigations.
  • Drescher’s family is conducting a GoFundMe campaign for her repatriation.

Look at this:

In individuals aged 50-59 years, compared with the unexposed general population, those exposed to antidepressants for 1 to 5 years saw their risk of sudden cardiac death doubled, while individuals exposed to antidepressants for 6 or more years had four times the risk of sudden cardiac death.

It does. Being allowed to leave and then leaving asap just because he tested negative is a weird one, especially before a post-mortem.

Dont'cha think it would have been a good idea to hold the guy's passport until after they finished the investigation?

He may not have drugs in his system, but that doesn't mean he couldn't have roofied her.

Before getting around to calling someone! Death only discovered when the cleaners arrived!

In tears - grief, guilt?  Not the reaction I would consider normal  after a one night stand/transaction.

You think travel insurance covers deaths due to drugs and drinking?

I'm skeptical.

Where is the sign banning German tourists?

Sounds smart to me, whether contributory to her demise or not.  Though testing drug free does eliminate most any connection to her death if as suspected, alcohol & drug OD.

Why was she on anti-depressants?

She has a smoking hot body. What else does she need?

Maybe an excess of drugs + alcohol would negate the policy.

Who's being stupid here? Let's play "Spot A German Immigrant's Name" ok?

Mesut Ozil

Leroy Sané

Aleksandar Pavlović

Antonio Rüdiger

İlkay Gündoğan

Keith Kiwi

Clue: one of these is neither German nor an immigrant (or very bright).

When you don't care enough to spend your own money, start a GFM.

I think it is pretty funny when people start these and then for whatever reason, don't spend the money as givers intended.

Friend raised for her brother dying of cancer, he didn't make it, so the family spent it on a "recovery" vacation in Mexico.

Another went on a cruise with the money.

Who's to say the German didn't put those antidepressants in her drink to knock her out so he could get right into the "intimate activities". Happens all the time when perverts put a "date rape" drug in a girl's drink. That's what the police should have been investigating.

Unless his holiday was at an end and he was pre booked on a flight home. Whether the cops had reason to hold him, or release him, who knows.

Dont know nowt, do we?
