Krungsri denien me to withraw money from savings account

Featured Replies

Lately I went to Krungsri in Bangkok to withdraw 100000 ฿.

The bank assistant at Krungsri would only let me take out the 100000 if I signed a paper that says that Krungsri is not responsible for my money in Krungsri.

Is that normal now?

Since I needed the money for a house extension, I signed the papers, and 10 minutes later, I transferred all my money from Krungsri to KrungThai.
(I still have 76 ฿ in Krungsri).

You need to ask Krungsri the reason. Come back when you have that information and let us know what they said.

What is the exact wording on this "paper"?

If you want to keep the account   you might need to keep a bit more in there  as I hear they will start  charging an "admin fee" after a while  for such a low amount and then close the account at 0..as we see opening new accounts becomes harder and harder not easier.

FWIW, it appears that the OP isn't alone: Here's a YouTube from earlier today:  I'd suggest taking johng's advice above and keeping a few thousand baht in the account so they don't close it.

Years ago the magic number to avoid low balance fees (and the draining of your account, leading to its closing) was > 2,000 baht at several accounts & banks I deal with.  Haven't checked recently but if you're concerned about being charged fees & losing your account, check into this minimum balance.

Why not ask the bank this?  They'd have the best answer to why they are doing that.

I recently received a message, and have received before, that my Bangkok Bank balance was below 500 Baht that my balance is below the threshold.....

Weird. What do they mean , like in case of fraude ?

Last time I took out the 400k , it was only the usual photocopy of passport.

I don't have online banking, OP doesn't say if his savings account is online , or just a paper booklet like mine.

It was either kbank or scb that told me this was needed to withdrawal large amounts a few months ago. Due to no facescan for foriegners being available.

They have since both implemented facescans for foriegners.

Maybe krungsri has not yet so requires this?

The bank does have a phone number.....you could call..1572...:coffee1:

Possibly - banks have instituted stricter policies for accounts held by the over-70 crowd, on the basis that they're more vulnerable to financial scammers.

I have often left my account at BBK with only 200 Baht, never had a problem, the account receives a new batch of money every month. I never leave the account with more than 500 Baht.

This may be an indicator of cash flow problems in this bank... You should know that depositing money in a bank account amounts to lending money to the bank. From a legal and accounting viewpoint, you are not the owner of the deposited amounts, but a creditor.

recently I have withdrawn from my Krungsri saving account over 100.000.

this acc. does  not have online only the bank book.

I am over 70 and only the passport for identification was required.

I recently closed accounts with 2 banks, because they created too much hassle with security measures etc.

This was CIMB and Krungsri. On top, the latter also pays a mediocre interest rate compared to others.

By coincidence, when you visit a branch of these 2 banks, you will see few customers inside.

Last Friday I went to SCB Bank in Chanthaburi and took out 300k baht without a hitch.

Yes, Thai banks have concerns about the elderly ( over 70yo) being cheated.

No banking app use, and questioning for those wanting larger than normal withdrawals.

Like everything else in Thailand applied at random.

Correct with regard to SCB. My friend who has banked both business and personally with SCB for several years was told over the phone that they would leave the original higher value transfer limits on their banking app if he agreed to similarly waiving this "security" or account "protection." He did this verbally after his call was transferred to a higher order SCB prole on the phone. This was several months ago and in lieu of the photo/face scan malarkey that SCB were very slow to implement for their non-Thai account holders.

It does if you want a banking app
