A Thai woman, Suwadee Fadchin, reported the theft of over 300,000 baht in gold jewelry after visiting a spa in the Sriracha area of Chon Buri province on December 3. The jewelry disappeared from her locker during her spa treatment. Despite immediately notifying the spa owner, the owner denied any responsibility.

Suwadee, 38, filed a complaint with the Sriracha Police Station. She had checked in for a spa session around 1pm and stored her valuables in a locker. The session included a body scrub, shower, and oil massage totaling a little over two hours. Upon completing the treatment, staff advised her to secure her belongings, leading to her shocking discovery that her gold jewelry was missing.

The stolen items included a necklace, bracelet, ring, and earrings, with individual values ranging from 15,000 baht to 180,000 baht. All were stored in a small bag inside her shoulder bag. Suwadee was bewildered about how the locker was opened, given she retained the key throughout. She discovered another key in a neighboring locker that also unlocked hers.

Believing the theft occurred during her shower, which was outside the massage room, Suwadee confronted the spa staff. An attempt to clear suspicion involved publicly checking the bags of three employees, but no stolen items were found. The spa owner refused accountability, citing a sign that exempts the spa from responsibility for lost valuables.

Police investigated the scene but found no trace of the missing jewelry. They seized the bag for fingerprint analysis while questioning the spa owner and employees. Suwadee remains determined to resolve this incident through legal channels, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • A woman lost over 300,000 baht in gold jewelry at a spa in Thailand.
  • The theft allegedly occurred while she retained the locker key, raising questions about security.
  • The spa owner denies responsibility, sparking a police investigation.

  • Just being Captain Obvious, but under no circumstances would I put the equivalent of $10,000 USD of jewelry in a public locker, especially one made out of fiberboard.  And - anyone wearing 5 baht-weig

  • If you are referring to the spa that is complete nonsense. They have no reason to account for the reckless behavior of this customer whose actions seem very suspicious to start with.

Should they not have advised this security BEFORE her treatment?

So now she will have to present the invoices for the Gold, and prove that she put it into the said secure locker. Hahahah

Just being Captain Obvious, but under no circumstances would I put the equivalent of $10,000 USD of jewelry in a public locker, especially one made out of fiberboard.  And - anyone wearing 5 baht-weight of gold around is asking to be robbed.  I limit my wife to 1 baht-weight in public, and personally I think that is asking for trouble given the price is North of 60K per baht-weight.  And as far as "victim blaming" goes.  Yeah - people wearing gold bling are asking for trouble imho. I don't, not even a gold wedding band anymore. :glare:

Could be those ladyboys ....again

I don't understand that people are wearing such expensive jewellery if they go to a spa, or even on holiday.. Why is it needed to show off?? It happens all over the world... keep your valuables at home

Many years ago i had a lady in my room in Bangkok. After she left i noticed i was missing about 5000 baht from my pocket.I I knew the bar and i went there with a lady from reception and my policefriend.

She refused the stealing but the bar manager found the money inside her bra.

She get fired rigth away and the manager gave me a free drink and apologized.

About the topic i really don't understand why she brought so much values so i find it hard to believe and if its true im sure the employees know who took it.

dumb and ..................................dumber

Yes, it does not look like the most secure arrangement. Could also be rear access like one sees in Cambodian MPs.

Always seems a bit weird that you are going to a Spa and decide "I think I will take this 5 Baht necklace with me". Who in their right mind would do such a thing?

Leaving it in the hotel room is often risky too!

There's rarely a follow-up unless there's an RTP success.  I'm thinking hen's teeth here.

Nothing new here Typically pathetic and witless Thai bash

Disclaimers of responsibility for valuables left on premises are not unique to Thailand. For example, parking garages all over the world state clearly that valuables left in cars are the responsibility of the car owner, not the car park operator.

Either she was attempting insurance fraud or suffering from ding dong syndrome, staff very suspicious advised her to secure her belongings after the massage.

Maybe she had them with her during the massage and staff told her to secure them b4 showering??

Why these idiots worship gold is beyond me.

Gold is going to crash like a lead zeppelin, give it time.

Get your ca$h into indexed funds, preferably Europe and developing markets and Canada.

You can thank me later.

Idiots.... nobody wants to flaunt silver.  Dark horse for 2026.

There is too much emphasis on looking trendy in Thai culture.

I think she also deposited her brain in that flimsy box as well. or unless it's just a story to tell someone she's not

happy to tell to.

I witnessed a similar incident in Phnom Penh a year ago. As I was walking out of my hotel, a British couple approached the receptionist, showed her four US hundred dollar bills, and asked the receptionist if they were real - as they suspected they might not be. The receptionist inspected the bank notes and immediately concluded that they were not real. I also asked to inspect them, and while they LOOKED exactly like real ones, they were clearly made of a kind of thin plastic.

The British couple told the hotel receptionist that they had withdrawn the money from an ATM the previous evening and that the ATM must have given them fake bills. But the receptionist knew better: She asked them where they had gone AFTER withdrawing the money. And they said that they had gone for a massage nearby, during which they had left their possessions, including their $400, in a locker at the massage parlor during their massage. The hotel receptionist then told the British couple that that's where their real dollars were exchanged for the fake ones.

The receptionist then called the police, who went to the massage parlor with the British couple. I left the hotel at that time, and when I came back to the hotel, a policeman was negotiating with the owner of the massage parlor, who admitted that his staff had switched the money. (She had already quit her job and fled back to her hometown in the Cambodian countryside.)

The policeman negotiated with the massage parlor owner to return $300 of the $400 that was stolen to the British couple. I assume that the remaining $100 was kept by the policeman as compensation for his efforts.

The moral: Lockers at massage parlors are absolutely not safe. Of course the staff of the massage parlor are going to have spare keys, and they will know exactly how much time they have to go through your valuables before you retrieve your things from your locker.  So either don't bring your valuables with you to a massage parlor, of if you can't avoid that, never let your valuables out of your sight.
