An Australian man has died following a tragic accident in Phuket after reportedly running into a glass door at a restaurant in the Karon area. The incident occurred on December 11, with police alerted around 10.30pm to disturbances involving a foreign man. He was rushed to Chalong Hospital, but sadly, he succumbed to severe blood loss from his injuries.

The restaurant scene was chaotic, with officers discovering a shattered glass door and a large amount of blood. The victim’s identity remains undisclosed as investigations continue. CCTV footage revealed the man entered the restaurant alone, exhibiting an odd behaviour that unsettled fellow diners.

Other guests moved away as the man appeared disoriented, nodding his head frequently. Staff, noticing his condition, approached him, but he suddenly ran into the glass door, breaking it and subsequently collapsing outside. The panic among diners and staff was immediate.

Emergency crews from Chalong Hospital responded and transported the man to the hospital, where he received treatment for a severe leg laceration caused by the broken glass. Despite efforts, he could not be saved. Police are liaising with restaurant management to proceed with legal protocols and continue probing the man's actions before the incident.

Authorities are yet to confirm contact with the deceased's family regarding the tragic news. This incident bears resemblance to a March event in Bangkok, where a British man died under mysterious circumstances after acting erratically outside a karaoke bar. Questions about the Australian man's behaviour before the accident remain unanswered as the investigation progresses, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways:

  • An Australian man died in Phuket after running into a glass door.
  • CCTV showed unusual behaviour prior to the incident.
  • Investigations are ongoing; the family's notification is pending.

Unfortunately, so many mentally unstable foreigners are allowed to enter Thailand with any screening. :welcomeani:

Sounds like something a lot stronger than Marijuana to make him that erratic that he'd run through glass doors. Crazy take anything if you don't know what the ingredients are.

Some crazies would still find a way to kill themselves, even with safety glass, lol!

I’ve banged my head several times on glass doors with no stickers of any kind to indicate it’s glass … if you think it’s funny it’s not and it’s gross negligence , which is normal in Thailand , steps at hotels can be similar and you trip.
and some day in the next century it will be  compulsory to have a grab rail in hotel showers with floors that can become an ice rink when suddied !

I don't think it's funny at all, especially as a friend of mine shattered a toughened glass door in a pub in Guildford, when he walked into it not knowing it was shut!

Luckily he wasn't injured, just a little stunned, however it took quite a while for him to live this down, and we didn't let him get off lightly!

No mater what his circumstances were it’s a darn shame someone has to die like this.  RIP Young Man..

Well, as controversial as they are, everyone should own and learn how to apply a tourniquet.

Be careful what you wish for,  you might find yourself excluded, for continually posting the same ridiculous comments,      "screening" ?:cheesy:

neck !    :cheesy::clap2:  nice one !  brought a smile to my face amidst the misery of being an evacuee

There are too many holes  in this case  to make it completely one sided….

I would like to hear from an objective patron who has no stake in the game

Damn Thais put that glass door there

No, they put pane glass where tempered glass should have been used.

Time to trot out 'the children' fallacy.  Kids here are allowed to run around in restaurants like wild animals. It wouldn't take a large one to smash his head through pane glass, and what would people say then? That the kid was on drugs?

Possible that he was going/trying to do a "runner" without paying the bill but was too "out of it" to realise there was a glass door there??

All glass doors in NZ and large windows must be safety glass and should be here as well but it's more expensive, maybe that's why.

Very tragic accident he must have been paranoid when staff approached him and ran.

I remember I knocked my head on a glass door in a condo I rented , I did not see the glass door, it looked open to me (entrance to the building).  It did hurt a lot .

Actually it is mandatory so the restaurant owner could be in some trouble.

Yes, safety glass (tempered or laminated) is effectively mandatory for restaurant doors and surrounding windows in Thailand due to compulsory

TISI certification standards for architectural glass, especially in high-risk areas like doors and glazed panels near walking surfaces, to prevent injury from shattering. Thailand's Ministry of Industry mandated standards for Tempered Glass (TIS 965) and Laminated Glass (TIS 1222) to enhance consumer safety, meaning restaurants must use these safer types for compliance, particularly for doors and adjacent windows (sidelights).

It.s about time people took resposability for their own actions instead of every body having to feather bed them.Yes, safety glass is good as are handrails on staircases and in showers but when they are not there one has to be extra careful and not do anything stupid like the aussie who went through the door without opening it.So was that the fault of the restuarant owner because he didn't fit safety glass ???

its the fault of the OTT health and safety culture in developed countries, when legislation replaces common sense, the latter tends to disappear

All very interesting and no doubt "technically/ theoretically" correct.    But you seem to have forgotten where we are

No...I don't want Thailand to become a "nanny " state like the West where we have signs everywhere

"don't ride on the back of a train as you could fall off " etc

I like the fact Thailand can be free of Karen's  .
