Renew 5 year Driving License, Banglamung vs Rayong

Featured Replies

Hi All

I am renewing my 5 year driving license and managed to get an appointment at the Rayong Branch end of February using the smartqueue app, I was unable to book a slot at Banglamung Office branch, was greyed out.

Anyone recently renewed the driving license at Rayong and was you able to get a 5 year renewal as I have read online, that, if your visa is valid less than 1 year, you will have only get 2 years renewal, is this true ? Rayong only or any other branch ?

Any experience with using the Banglamung Office as walk-in, to get an appointment ?

You can't pick and choose, willy nilly the province you obtain your DL renewal.

It is determined by your CofR

Where are you registered?

AI Overview

You renew your Thai driving license at

any Department of Land Transport (DLT) office nationwide by bringing your old license, passport (with visa/residency proof like a work permit/address certificate), a medical certificate, and completing online training/vision tests, with options for walk-ins or appointments via the DLT Smart Queue app. The process involves watching a safety video, passing basic vision/reflex tests, paying fees (around 505 baht for car, 255 for motorcycle), and getting your new 5-year license.

Actually you can pick which office to do your test. You book on the smart queue app. I live in Bang saray but wanted rayong but they were pretty much booked up for a few months so booked Chanthaburi and got it done 3 days later. Nice and friendly they were too. Shame it was so far away.

You absolutely can pick and choose. Most people in Phuket at the moment are doing theirs in Phang Nga or Surat as Phuket is full up for months in advance.

Personally I recently did mine in Issan with a medical cert and Residence cert that were issued in Phuket.

AFAIK, you need a non-immigrant visa to get the 5yr renewal.

I live in Rayong. My 5-year licence expires at the end of August 2026. In order to get an appointment for shortly after its expiration, when can I make an appointment?

Absolutely. Millions of Thais stay at places other than there housebook/ID says and won't do a 1000 km roundtrip to extend their DL.

Even agents who help with legit DL affairs might drive you to Rayong.

From what I recall, you have up to one year after its expiry before it's cancelled and you're back at square one. Since the five-year extension is dated from your next birthday, the trick is to time the renewal so that it's just after your birthday and then you get almost six years instead of five.

Have a question. I am scheduled for renewing my 5 year license on Jan. 28th. The issue is I am currently "under consideration" for my marriage extension with a check-in date of Feb. 13th at immigration. They (DLT - Udon Thani) require a valid visa extension for renewal. Anyone know if this would be a problem?

(I posted this on another DL threat) I just renewed my 5 year dl in December. As I live in Pattaya, the normal place to go is the Banglamung DLT (off Hwy 36). Was told (by agent) the wait time for que was about 2 months if I wanted to wait. Option 2 was to take van to Samut Prakan DLT (with group) the following week. About an hour and 45 minute drive to Samut Prakan DLT. Because it's a group of people the whole experience took about 8 hours. It also a bit more expensive because of transportation but for me it was worth it to get the proceedure behind me.

So can I go online now and make an appointment for a few days after my licence expires in August?

You're confused. While you need to go to your local immigration office to get a Certificate of Residence, that can then be used at any DLT office. There's no requirement to use a particular DLT office.

Correct, agents were getting CoR in Pattaya, and taking their punters to Rayong last year.

If it is Pattaya/Banglamung DLT the answer is NO. They do not have online appointments..you must go IN PERSON with your passport and licence to make an appointment for your actual renewal day (probably 2-4 weeks hence) ---as already posted they will give you a list of what is required to bring on the renewal appointment day.

Also you cannot make appointments for 6 months in advance.

Indeed, but you do need to be aware of office requirements.

A few years back I went to Pattaya, despite being twice the distance it is in fact quicker and easier than the Chonburi office. Didn't get very far with them, immediately turned away as my medical certificate was from Chonburi.

Just drove back up to Chonburi and attended there. Bit of a bonus, due to impending renovation they had no video facilities.

It's not Pattaya. It's Rayong.

That's incorrect! COR from Pattaya and renewed both bike and car licenses in a remote driving test center in Khon Kaen province within 45 minutes of arriving no problems at all. In fact the test center only conducted 8 renewals during that particular day.
