Foreigner’s ‘Don’t Go to Thailand’ Video Goes Viral

Featured Replies

A foreign TikTok user has gone viral after posting a tongue-in-cheek video warning people not to visit Thailand, only to reveal that the country made him fall in love with it. The clip, published on 25 February 2026 and reported by Khaosod English, quickly attracted widespread attention online. Thai and foreign viewers responded in large numbers, sharing their reactions and travel plans.

In the video, Alex Glabdorf, who posts under the handle @alex.glandorf, speaks directly to the camera while driving. He repeatedly says, “Do not go to Thailand. Do not do it,” presenting his remarks as a warning. He then jokes that travellers who book a one- or two-week holiday will eventually have to return home and, once back, will “hate” their jobs and normal lives because they cannot stop thinking about Thailand.

Glabdorf humorously claims that visitors will want to sell everything and move back permanently. He says he himself spent a year in Thailand before returning home after running out of money. “Thailand took all my money,” he says in the clip, before ending by asking who is heading to Songkran in April.

The video gained rapid traction on social media, drawing warm responses from Thai users who said they felt both amused and proud. Many foreign viewers joined the discussion, recounting their own experiences of visiting Thailand. Some commented that they were flying to the country within days, while others said they had already visited several times and were waiting for their next trip.

Several commenters described Thailand as the “best country” with the “best people”. The light-hearted tone of the video appeared to resonate with audiences familiar with the country’s tourism appeal. The report did not cite official figures or statements in response to the video.

Khoasod reported that as online engagement continues, the clip highlights the enduring popularity of Thailand as a travel destination, particularly ahead of the Songkran festival in April. Whether the viral post translates into measurable tourism impact remains unclear. For now, the video continues to circulate widely across social media platforms.

He's right. More than a handful of men visited Thailand and then dumped their wife back home to return permanently. Women shouldn't let their husbands visit Thailand.

I wonder what his asean now user name is, he's got to be of our many lovely, always complaining, whinging, whining members.

  • Did you watch / read the article fully and understand it, or are you just complaining, whinging, whining over nothing?

What is he offered to make this clip??? TAT said they have to find ways to promote tourism, and after the foreigners who thanked THailand for their counted visits at 7/11, times they ate Pad Thai and sticky rice with mango, they have now a new influener approached for a clip???

I don't agree with the above.

It is pure irony and sure not whining.

Not the first such "warning" about Thailand in social media.

It's addictive 😁

Being in Thailand definitely changed my view of American women, who mostly seem anxious, withered, on psych drugs, and very unhappy. Corporate women forcing themselves to be happy because they can do it all are the worst.

Thai women can be surprisingly dark and depressed underneath the smile and friendly demeanor, but it's more real and at least you get the smile and friendly demeanor.

just because you got screwed doesn't translate that others are as stupid.

A lot of guys get screwed back home.

And then they come to Thailand and get screwed again.

Thailand is still a popular holiday destination. It attracts a different, younger demographic these days. I have worked with a several married guys who are looking forward to their next family vacation in Thailand, sampling each of the tourist epicentres on subsequent visits. Phuket first, then Chiang Mai on the next holiday. Some are envious that I have "retired" here with family. None of them are interested in some of the things that lured many here 40-odd years ago, like shacking up with gogo bar cashiers (you know who you are).

Thailand has and is changing. It's up to the older generation of resident aliens to accept this and also acknowledge that they too have changed. Stop carping about the poor education, fat birds, the rampant corruption, being unable to pull a (fat) bird, the highway carnage, expensive dishwater beers and other things that you can't change (or afford on a pension). Makes life here easier IMHO.

Seems like the recipe for disaster!

Some people judge everyone through the lens of their own experiences and mistakes, and trolls exploit unverified details to project their own flaws onto others

Well, the TAT forked out a fortune to get "Lisa" to promote New Year's Eve in the Kingdom. Never ever heard any success reports on the issue though ...........

I realize the Thai economy is already suffering and I realize that millions are dependent upon jobs related to tourism, but wouldn't it be fun if tourist numbers dropped to 20 million? How grand life would be for us within the expat community.

The number seem to be dropping even without the bad PR, so let us hope.

Just another wannabe online star! Probably his way to save up for his next trip.

It is indeed a serious condition- and for many of us sadly the only cure seems to be to stay here and suffer even more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know nothing about suffering, normal life rollercoasters with trying and failing is not suffering, it is experience and learning.

I'm an older alien that came here as a young man and whilst i think it's 1% as good as it was i also accept that my age has an impact on my opinion, many don't.

I'm certainly not saying that I wish this result on the Thai people, and I did mention what a loss that would be for the nation. I'm just saying it would be a positive byproduct for the ex-pat community if there was a fall in tourism. I don't think that that fact can be denied.

People are so easily offended these days.

I'm sure I've seen a very similar video, but from a female. I'll try to find it.

Balloon chasing and having only one ST per week worked for me.

A semi-detached in Hackney isn't a significant loss.
