65,000 monthly income must be in Thai bank for a 'retirement' visa?

Featured Replies

I'm 99% sure that my situation won't benefit me, but I'll ask anyway :)

I just realised that my monthly income (from online teaching and UK state pension) for the past 12 months has always been more than 65,000 THB, sometimes more than double that amount. But these incomes are paid into my Wise bank account, and not into a Thai bank account, (because I don't live in Thailand right now).

I think that I would need to transfer it each month to my Bangkok Bank account for that income to qualify for the income method yes?

Of course.

The 65k min per month must be transferred into Thai bank account and be shown as an international transfer.

Since I can't have a bank account without a retirement visa and getting a retirement visa requires 800,000 baht in my account, this isn't much help for me.

I am sure someone on this chat will inform you about the necessary requirements for the extended stay requirements as this topic has been hashed over 100 times in the past.

Are you serious? Just pay an agent to do everything for you.

I switched to this method several years ago, and it is my assumption that the deposit has to be in a Thai bank.

Get your Non-IMM O from outside of Thailand, once you have that you'll be able to open a Bank Account to seed the 800K for your extension.

WISE is not a bank, but a regulated financial technology company (Money Service Business)
Transfers just from a Wise account to a Thai bank account would not be deemed International transfers.

Mine are, to Kasikorn, and are identified as such on the printed statement.

That's also my experience.

Some time ago WISE specifically required Oz folk to transfer funds to a individual account with WISE.

Think some refer to it as "Wallet".

Previously it was different.

In any event when I transfer, it's my Oz bank to WISE account (instant)

Then WISE wallet to Thai Bank (INSTANT)

Your tip of requesting bank statement in Thai language worked for me last extension as in Thai script noted "funds from abroad"

And you transfer funds from where into your Wise account ............ an overseas bank, hence the proof of an overseas transfer.

OP stated his income from working online is being remitted direct to his Wise account, so no overseas bank involved.

Same as above ........... OP stated his income from online working is paid directly to his Wise account, the reason being pretty obvious.

In addition to the 65000THB going into a Thai bank you'll need to show the source of the funds. In my case I bank with Kasikorn bank and the email me a compete detailed statement showing the complete transfer including the source of the funds exchange rate etc etc (I use direct deposit). I then get a 1 year bank statement and certified letter from the Bank and include that with the rest of the required docs to my local immigration office here in Udon Thani to get my annual visa extension.

I just renewed at Jomtien also. The deposits from my Canadian bank are labeled "TRD"

Trade ----Deposit. The IO knew exactly what that meant and never questioned it.

(Definition: "TRD" usually stands for Trade/Transfer, highlighting the source as an international transaction)

what do u mean you cant?
Many banks will open an account for if u buy insurance
some will open for you if you have a thai go in with you
Agents will be able to assist for around 5,000 baht as well

NOTE:
UNLESS ur embassy will give ya a letter ur first retirement extension will need be done with 800,000 in the bank
and u will need put 65,000++/month for the next year to qualify for the 65,000 deposit means

Very out dated advice.

For those without a Thai Bank account best (only) option is to enter Thailand with a Non O.

With Non O status + added requirements such as COR then opening Bank account possible.

With visa exempt or even SETV entry opening Thai Bank account currently not an option
