He currently looks a shadow of the player he once was. England need to look to the younger less fragile brigade.

Time out seriously Wiltshire wilted and has no basis to be included in any England squad based solely on attitude alone. Guy walks round like he's owed something.

It's time for all those still giddy about 'Gareth and the lads' from the WC to wake up from their media induced fantasy land.

The fact is there is no middle ground with the English media, we are either the worst or best in the world. The truth is always nearer the middle.

But to be honest a lot these fans support small and insignificant clubs, so all they really have is England. Yes I'm including Leeds and Chelsea.

I agree totally about Henderson. If England want to be like Spain, etc, then he doesn't really fit- an honest club player but no more.

It's vital that Foden, Rashford, Loftus-Cheek, et al, get out of their present situations. The young Welsh players are getting game time at clubs like Bournemouth.

David Brooks at Bournemouth cost £10M from Sheff Utd. He is class and Spurs were linked to him last season. I would take him over Grealish any day.

What is 100% serious is that this England team isn't a patch on the 1990 WC team. They managed to get to semis too so the media felt that editorially it was fair to serenade them in the same way. As said, they had a fairly easy route to the last four, and put almost as much effort into PR intended to make people fall in love with Gareth and the new hopes.

2018 team was decent, but the 1990 team managed to charm a nation entirely by what they did on the pitch, contained several bona-fide world class players (where do I start?), and only lost once in the tournament - by penalties to the eventual winners. Not once to Belgium and once to a Croatia team that should have been dead on their feet - i.e. the only  real tests we had.

If you are telling me this England team deserved the adulation it received, I'm sorry but I will piss on your parade.

The two cannot be compared but the 1990 squad was a different beast with a lot of experienced players. What southgate did took balls and he went against the normal conventions and made that team his own. It's a work in progress and I think it will get better for southgate. If you offered me the 1990 team v this one. I'd take this one. It has longevity and they did get to the semis too and with a lot less experience. But from a passion perspective you cannot beat that 1990 squad if they had half of that passion they would be a formidable side these young lions.

It's been all downhill for him since he left Bolton.

Yeah he’s shit. But it could be worse, they could of paid 30 million for him on a 5 year deal like Sissoko.

Guy just believed the hype. I blame the parents. "You'll be captain of England one day son" guy started to believe it was an automatic progression.

You got some stones Kadilo. Your teams rooted and I do mean rooted to the bottom of the table. Not a paddle insight. Millwall derby next season at this rate

Possibly. No point pretending otherwise. I live in reality unlike many of the posters on here and there is no getting away from the fact that at the moment it is a sham. Fortunately I believe the manager is the right person for the job and given time things will turn round. Failing that there will be a few different games to attend next season.

They have spent a lot of cash and I’ve said it before it’s the defence which is problem number one and that’s still shaky as.

The good news is there is a load of dross down there too so won’t take too much of a turnaround to climb up.

Agree I was impressed with Southgate. Just thought the media banding words like "heroes" around was way off the mark.

Not exactly.  England are a midfield player or two short of having a world class team, and there're grounds to hope those vacancies could be filled within the next year or two.

The good thing is he doesn’t appear to have got carried away with the hype and says all the right things when interviewed

He realises as do most fans that they have a long way to go still.

Don't remind me!!

This England team has a lot of promise unfortunately with just a better defensive mid and as Sparkles said a creative midfielder....perhaps one will emerge from the wilderness in the coming years.

They restored pride and that makes them heroes. When you think of the utter rubbish that has happened in the last 20 years what they did wax heroic

I wouldn’t worry too much. I’ve a feeling we may 2 or 3 Sissokos this time next year.

We have a different understanding of the word.

Nah you need a reality check. What was done surprised everyone and restored pride. Belgium and Croatia were teams with a hell of a lot more experience and nous at that level and we rode both of them pretty close. If southgate gets what he has got so far from this squad it's going to get a lot better with experience and If kane had actually been fit it could have been truly heroic. Very short memory in play here. It's been abysmal for so long and your moaning about a semi final exit and 4th place Finnish.  Get a grip of those handlebars lad. You seem to have forgotten Iceland.

Listen LAD,  I'm not disputing how bad we were, and how much we've improved. But I don't think "heroes" is applicable.

To me heroes is for people who put their lives at risk for the greater good, or in a sporting context actually win things or at least come close and give absolutely everything. We did well at WC but not that well.

The handlebars are fine ?

And I don't know why you keep on bringing up the WC campaign. It was one of your boys that underperformed the most. Bottled his penalty and ended up getting dropped.

Have a look at this link

Bah bah

I've seen something like that before.

I've got no excuse really. Most days it occurs to me I should probably wear one. But my logic is a) I worked as a motorcycle courier for a couple of years so I know how to ride one b) the roads here are quiet and I know them well and c) I don't drive like a ****head and I'm always looking out for people who do drive like a ****head.

I should still wear one. But it's my choice I guess.

I'm with you 100% I too see the logic it's very similar to thai logic on the subject.

1. Ride bike since I was 5 don't need helmet.

2. I ride these roads all my life I know they not dangerous.

On top of choosing a whack team we now know it is not just footballing decisions that you suck at.

Anything to fit in eh.

Hmmm like to think so but somehow I ain't seeing it .. In fact I haven't been seeing it for the last odd 30 yrs apart from maybe the Italia 90 semi against the Deutscher's .. T'is the same every tournament hope springs eternal only to be dashed on the rocks of reality .. Sure some of the players who line up and haved lined up for ENG are gifted at club level but once they are asked to assimilate into a cohesive winning unit at National level in a tournament it all goes out the window .. Consider this the last 4 World Cups have been won by different European teams the most recent Le Francais .. What is it about the French set-up that has got them to 5 major finals the last 20 yrs winning 3 .. The Germans , we all know the Germans record when it comes to major finals because they consistently evolved and morph into a new tournament team with the mentality needed to nearly always be in the mix at the death if not winning it ( and though they bombed out proper this year in Russia you'd be foolish to bet against 'em again in Qatar ) .. Spain again went from no hopers Euro 96 to Euro champs 2008 and World champs 2 yrs later .. England though flatter to deceive , the promise is great but the reality different and the expectations crushing sometimes .. After the debacle of Euro 2016 there was another reset and off we went again with it has to be said this time sensibly muted expectations but what happens , the group game against Belgium the first decent team they played was lost amid ridiculous machinations that coming 2nd in the group was a easier route to the final .. and when the hour of calling came in the semi they lost to a team that had gone the distance in their 2 previous matches on the way to that semi .. Same Same England but no different .. These are the times , the games when you have to come up with the goods , when you have to deliver but again sadly t'was not to be .. And last night against Spain I seen no font of eternal hope to offer comfort that ENG will claim the next major tournament or the one after that .. and with the greatest respect in the world to Gareth " the meek shall inherit the earth " Southgate he is not the Messiah to lead England out of the wilderness even if he looks well smart with waistcoat on the touchline .. The FA should push the boat out and try for Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp next time they need a manager .. The dude knows how to motivate and play footie and just picture the irony if it were a German to lead England to greatness again ..
