BANGKOK: -- Experts have warned the Thai public who wish to have tattoos removed by laser to go to reputable places to have the procedure done.

The warning comes after pictures emerged from a Facebook fan page of someone's arm covered in bubbles of blood and pus following a botched procedure, reported Daily News.

Laser treatment specialist Dr Worapong Manatkiat said that the pictures show what happens when too much laser power is used.

This causes ruptures in the tissue which then fill with blood and pus.

Such mistakes can be hard to rectify and leave scarring or cause secondary infections to break out that can cause further complications.

The pictures spooked Thais causing many to ask if such things could happen in Thailand.

I have no regrets concerning my tattoos.

I had two tattoo's 90% removed under laser treatment which was carried out by a doctor back in Oz, I was sick and tired of the tattoo's, put on when I was 14 years of age, and just when I started laser treatment at about 45 years of age, the fashion of tattoo's came into full swing 555

The doctor advised me that it would take between 4 and 6 goes on each arm at a cost of $300 per arm per visit, negotiated down to $200 per arm per visit paid in cash, then at number 6, he advised that it might take between 8 to 10 goes, so I could see the cost was starting to amount to more than I wanted to spend, at go number 10 he said maybe 12, with my reply being how about if they are not gone by number 12, I keep coming back free of charge until they are gone, he agreed, we shook on it and was he true to our agreement, I would go for treatment every 3 months and 28 laser treatments on each arms and 7 years later they are but 90% gone, I couldn't keep going for treatment because it was time to retire to Thailand.

If you are thinking of the treatment and have colours like yellow or blue or green you might be there till forever as I am told those colours do not come off, and if you don;t like the smell of burnt skin and are not into pain, then avoid it, if you really want them off and can afford it, then it is worth it IMO, suffice to say I had two more put on my chest as I was getting treatment, I had the other ones on my arms and didn't like them exposed when I wore short sleeve shirts, a personal thing, but at 14 was shy of a few bob up top.

Is a botched laser tattoo removable possible in Thailand. Of course it is.

Some may even say it is likely. Choose your doctor/service provider wisely. :coffee1:

I highly doubt it could be possible in Thailand. I'm sure there are very strict regulations in place preventing such things!

I've wanted to get a tattoo for many years.  In the old books it talks about when a man gets over the age of 50 he should mark his body with images of Buddha and Vishnu.  Glad I never did it really...

I wonder why the dentist is offering tattoo removal....

Was it a dentist really?  I feel very lucky to have a dentist in Pattaya That did a two-year externship in implant dentistry at the University of California Irvine. Very good dentist. I can't imagine him moonlighting doing tattoo removal...

Tattoes in Japan were used as a punishment to mark criminals. The marked men embraced them and enhanced with further decoration. Thus the authorities stopped doing it. A story behind the association with so-called Yakuza societies.

The old books were probably published by the tattoo artists just trying to drum up a bit of business....

Manypeople coming to Thailand take advantage of some of the very talented tattoo artists to be found in some tourist areas.

However once done, removal is difficult and not painless. I think tourists should be warned by The Minister of Tourism and TAT too.

IMO, anybody walking into a tattoo parlour and getting a tattoo without knowing that it is meant for life, probably wouldn't be able to read any warnings issued by any agency. Sorry, drunk is no excuse here either.

And not just Thailand for that matter.................

I find that to be a well reasoned but somewhat pessimistic optimistic post. Thank you.

should be a must see for those who wish to cover their bodies with markings

not easy to remove so best think twice

When asked by younger folks why I don't have piercings or tattoos, I always answer: "Because I'm a rebel."
