PHUKET: Phuket City Municipality has issued a statement assuring that public areas in Suan Luang (King’s Park) are safe, after 18-year-student Khaled Nour died from electrocution after touching a floodlight pole beside a basketball court in the park on Saturday evening (July 13).

Gives you so much faith for Thai engineers burying electrical wires in the ground in well known flood areas

I'm not certain what electrical protection system was installed but I have had more than one discussion about grounding electrical wires with Thai electricians. Why they think it is not needed is beyond me. My condolences to the boy's family.

So many light-poles all about the park have the lower inspection covers either removed or hanging off with exposed wiring.

So ONE public area is now safe (I use the term loosely) while 10's of thousands around the country await a fatality before anything is done??? Morons!

There are a dozen similar shoddy, exposed electrical connections throughout that park. Was there earlier today doing a bit of exercise. The reported repairs are typical Thai style, lots of electrical tape and best described as temporary. Not the standard you’d expect from a qualified engineer.

There are several reasons that Electrical Wiring Systems have no Grounding ( Earth ) wire, or Protection Systems.

1) It takes more time to install

2) That makes 3 wires the Electricians have to think about, many struggle with just the 2 wires

3) Installation material costs are cheaper

4 ) Thais always know best, and will not be told different, even if its by a Fully Qualified person with many years experience in whatever field.

Safe like Thai road safe????

But exactly what you expect as a response in Thailand.

You can bet that no one was held responsible for the death of the young student,

that's why things never change, there will be more deaths because of faulty wiring,

the only thing that's certain here.

Morons?  How do you know that tens of thousands are unsafe?

What would your suggested number be? Just these few photo,s should give you the answer!

Its amazing more aren't killed here from shotty electrical work, which can be seen at almost every turn. Or maybe they just don't make the news?

Earth? falang electricity not same Thai electricity, said the 'electrician' putting in my new water heater in the shower, the house wiring is earthed but only after an argument would he connect the earth wire of the heater to the third wire of the house wiring.

When I first moved into my current house one of the first things I checked was the water heater in the shower. The earth wire was correctly connected to the heater and the wire ran outside. The problem was it wasn't connected to anything, just hanging loose. The electrician came so close to doing a good job but fell at the last hurdle ????

Had the same thing said to me when I queried about no earth wire anywhere in the house.........couldn't believe it.

Installed one myself as I was/am a qualified electrical technician. Stopped us getting a tickle off the microwave!! And checked the two shower units to be on the safe side!

Did find out that the aircon in the main bedroom was wired directly from the meter on the pole outside of the house though, so couldn't be isolated..........bloody dreadful.

I'm a bit frightened every time it floods and I'm out in it. I just wonder how many people at one time could get electrocuted on one of those flooded streets?

No, obviously, why would you say such a purile thing?

Do you have any evidence that what I said was inaccurate or that what the poster I responded to claimed was correct?...and bear in mind that conjecture, the Thaivisa variety or any other, isn't evidence.

Well, I won't disagree with those five photos so that's a starting point out of tens of thousands.

Over to you about the remaining tens of thousands that you and bdenner seem to have evidence about.
