VIDEO: Bus and taxi drivers fight for tourists in Pattaya

Ruk Siam News reported that efforts by the Pattaya City Council to bring order to the port of Bali Hai are in a complete mess.

The shambles in South Pattaya was featured on a video as both authorized and unauthorized drivers fought over tourists.

The media said a meeting was held recently to iron out problems but there is no enforcement and things are as bad as before.

They said tourists felt scared and uncomfortable as the warring factions clashed for a long time before anyone came to do anything about it.

This all played out on a public holiday with, supposedly, no drinking allowed.

I could almost swear some idiot from TAT in the last 2 days was trying to tell us tourist numbers had rebounded and there were plenty to go around. Further evidence that this is clearly not the case.

They have all chosen to do nothing and this is the result.

This is only going to get worse.  This country will soon pass the point of no return.  It will become a challenge to rehabilitate Thailand's image a rip off destination.

The majority of the blame goes to this tourism 'official' in the news a few days ago declaring that in fact tourist arrivals where 'up'.

Delusional.

WWarring faction yeesh. … , meanwhile in the rest of the country, Tourists have been made to feel uncomfortable and scared on occasion. for years. That is the result of media vilification and a big reason why tourists do not want to come back to Thailand

As this took years to create, it's not going to be solved in 6 months. Maybe six years but you have to start working on it NOW. This is not a quick fix situation as it wasn't a quick problem.

I could almost swear some idiot from TAT in the last 2 days was trying to tell us tourist numbers had rebounded and there were plenty to go around. Further evidence that this is clearly not the case. The problem of course, is that if these drivers are fighting now, what is it going to be like when numbers continue to fall?

And they don't even notice that the tourist walk to another place and take another taxi or bus. Anyway that's what I would do, but surprise you don't see me in Pattaya or Phuket.

It is / was NOT a zero alchohol day. Sorry to be pedantic. But the inference is the bad behaviour cannot be booze fueled.

Unless Im missing something.

Its / was a zero alchohol PURCHASE day.  I stand to be corrected errrrrr but you can drink the stuff you had purchased on previous days.????????????

Not surprising, keep making more tourists doing the walk of shame more often and you will be really, really fighting for the tourist's dollar...

How do you tell authorised drivers from non-authorised?  Taximeter drivers are authorised by Pattaya Police not to use their meters & charge whatever they like.

You call that a fight? The Bangkok guys can do much better (worse).

I am sure this fighting will make these tourists to feel all warm and wanted, thus leading to a reversal in the drop of tourist numbers the operators are so loudly complaining about.

Some places in Thailand down. Pattaya is dirty place for the sex guys. Dirty beach, dirty everything, pollution.  Normal tourist doesn’t like it.

Normal tourist like clean and nice place, clean air,  like Kao Lak. Getting more tourist every year. Not have the sex bar.

Good for family, kid, couple.

If the fights are staged in plastic pools filled with strawberry ice cream and jelly I'll go and watch. ????????

Given that the current statements made by officials and declining tourist numbers currently being discussed on Thai Visa relate to comparisons of now to last year (2019 / 2018), your data here is not sufficiently up to date to have any relevance.

Some year go down a little. Same in 2014.

Still it go up and up.

So many now.

Kao Lak more than last year sure.

Pattaya less.

The sex guy don’t take the family or wife and girlfriend go Pattaya. Go alone. Because he lonely.

Kao Lak Many family and the big group.. More social.

The dude who shot the vid' won't be winning any accolades for smooth coverage and focusing on the action in the International Cameraman awards ..
