Popemobile and Holy Chalice to be two highlights of Pope Francis’s visit to Thailand next week

 

 

Pope Francis will travel in a locally-produced the open-top “Popemobile” during his visit to Thailand from November 20th to 23rd.

 

The vehicle was unveiled to the media at the Assumption Cathedral today.

 

The vehicle will not feature a glass top because His Holiness said, in a June 2014 interview with Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia, that the glass makes the vehicle akin to a “sardine can” that separates him from the people.

 

 

The Popemobile will bear the Vatican City’s registration plate “SCV 1”, an abbreviation of the Latin, Status Civitatis Vaticanæ (Vatican City State). It features a specially-designed adjustable staircase to make it easier for boarding and disembarking.

I hope he brings his own driver with him!

Surely the presence of the man himself and his holding of mass masses (I'm assuming he will be) are the highlights rather than his means of transport and his tea cup.

Transport plays a big part in the life and death of Thai's!

Hope he's wearing his lucky crucifix when he travels the deadly streets of Thailand...

 

I wonder how many road closures and other restrictions there are going to be during the visit???

Originally to cover the smell of the people does that mean that everyone except the pope smells unwashed???

I Hope the holy chalice is bolted down so it can't mysteriously disappear and be the subject of a 20 year investigation/cover-up.

Surely a better kind of vehicle  could have been modified for such an important guest.

He’s not Thai. That’s the best he gets.
