Worried Thais in UK want to get out urgently, plead for more flights to bring them home

Desperate Thais in Britain are pleading for more flights to bring them back home, fearing a dreaded second wave of Covid-19 will soon overwhelm that country.

 

With the United Kingdom being one of the worst-hit nations in the world, worried Thais have submitted letters to the Thai government through the embassy in London, requesting an increase in flights to Thailand.

 

Dr Eakaphum Chumnanrabiamkit who represents Thais in the UK, submitted a letter to the Foreign Affairs Ministry through the Thai ambassador, revealing the hardship Thais are faced with as normal commercial flights have been banned or limited, resulting in a number of Thai citizens being unable to return home as originally planned.

 

“The number of people wanting to travel home has increased as life becomes more difficult for them. Some living in rented houses have seen their leases expire at the end of June, meanwhile those with medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and even depression have an appointment with their doctors in July, but cannot return," he said.

 

"Some Thais have been stranded since February and March, and with their visas about to expire, it means they must live illegally in England. There are also cases of people with children who need to go back to study in Thailand. So I want the Thai government to hurry up and bring these people back,” Eakaphum said.

 

He claimed that the number of those who registered to return is high, but only two flights (of 600 people) have been allocated for this month and both are already full. He also claimed that other countries in comparison are running 3-4 daily flights.

 

"Another important reason is that from July 4, the British government has allowed hotels, restaurants, pubs and bars to reopen as normal and from today people will be able to travel in and out without detention," he claimed, "making a second wave of Covid-19 infections more likely. Many Thais in the UK are, therefore, worried and do not want to live in fear under these circumstances," he added.

They should be worried with the UK opening up just like the US did you can expect a great number of new cases from all the a symptomatic carriers to be out and about spreading their virus to all who come close and i have seen so many not social distancing or wearing masks .

I would worry if i was stuck in the UK second wave is coming. I mean the opened the pubs and everyone went crazy. I seen the pics.. zero social distancing no masks drunks everywhere. 

 

Then the expats here wonder why the government is enforcing rules on pubs. The UK is a great example of how to mess things up. Maybe the have watched how it went in the US and thought.. we can do worse ????

 

Got plenty of idiots in my country to who would love to break all the rules. Thankfully our government is a bit stronger (not that much unfortunately) but we have less of an alcohol culture then the UK.

Thats untrue - People of any Nationality are treated with equal indifference at any public hospital in the UK. 

 

People in the UK with Covid-19 symptoms are told to stay home and isolate and only to seek medical assistance if their symptoms are serious, difficult breathing etc. 

Anyone attending hospital with Covid-19 symptoms will be immediately sent home unless their condition is serious at which point they will be either taken to or placed in a medical facility specifically set up to treat serious Covid-19 patients. 

 

 

Your comment implying that Thai’s are treated less equally than a British citizen needs to be 'called out’.

 

The reason your comment may exist is that Thai’s treat hospitals differently than the British. 

 

In the UK people go to hospital for serious illness. We don’t go to a hospital if we have a cold or the flu unless our condition become serious, an emergency. In the majority of non serious cases we will be told to go home and take paracetamol etc to control our temperature. 

 

I can see that someone not familiar with the UK ’system’ goes to a UK Hospital with ‘cold symptoms’ as they would in Thailand, expecting to walk away with 4 different types of medication (white, blue, pink and yellow tablets) and feels hard done by or treated unfairly when they are told to ‘go home and take paracetamol’ - a British person would receive exactly the same response.

A Thai in the UK went to a hospital with COVID, she was sent home without 'the treatment', and so the story goes - she died a couple of days later.

 

The implication being that Thais are not treated well when abroad, especially the UK which is where this happened.

 

There was also another one, I think it was in Sweden, someone posting videos on facebook while ill with COVID complaining that they wouldn't admit her to hospital - I have no idea how that one turned out.

 

They all know that if you get COVID you should be admitted to a hospital and treated immediately because that's what they do in Thailand. I think they fail to realise that every country took this same approach until there were 1000's of new cases each day at which point they gave up trying to control it and the strategy changed to one of lockdown and wait it out.

In the UK (at least) its know that if you have Covid-19 symptoms the last place you go is to the hospital because you are placing those on the front lines and also those already at high risk in hospital at greater risk. 

 

If symptoms are serious enough to warrant hospitalisation there are specialised Covid-19 units and treatment centres at the hospitals which are separated with different entrances etc. 

 

 

If the story of the person dying two days after being turned away from hospital is true, it's terrible, but I can’t see any hospital in the UK turning away a seriously ill person no matter what her nationality. 

 

I can see a situation whereby someone with cold symptoms was turned away from a hospital and told to take Paracetamol. Perhaps this persons condition worsened, but then it's up to her (or her friend) to call an ambulance or go back to the hospital if they felt so severely unwell they needed urgent medical attention.

There's plenty of English language press here, why not take it up with them, send them your vids.

 

You may find that just because Thailand admits all its covid cases, its just not possible in other countries where there are large outbreaks, considering that at least 80% of cases are mild and recover at home with no major problems, why take up valuable resources in a hospital just so you can be pampered back to health?

Where do you get this information from in the UK all people are treated equally by the NHS whatever the nationality at no cost unlike here in Thailand.
