Prisoner may have tested positive for Covid-19: CCSA

By The Nation

Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman for the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), said on Thursday (September 3) that one prisoner may have tested positive for Covid-19.

He added that the test detected genetic material of the virus, which means the man had picked up the infection from someone else.

The Public Health Ministry and Department of Disease Control are expected to make an announcement at 6pm.

The suspected Covid-19 case is a new inmate who was transferred to the Central Special Correctional Institute on August 26. Though asymptomatic, he tested positive on Wednesday.

The 30 other prisoners in the institute have tested negative, while the suspect has been isolated for treatment.

why does nobody proof read these articles... test for genetic material positive means "he had picked up the infection from someone else" ?

wow.

thanks for that test then, no way we would have guessed it otherwise!

maybe it would make more sense to say that the man had been infected at some point in time, but might already have cleared the infection ?

Panic! Local infection! Take cover! To the bunkers people!

No worries though, they'll find out it was a false alarm. You can come back out from under the table now.

Such horrible news. One case. Unacceptable. It is a huge disaster. Public health is at great great risk. The country should be totally shut down for another 6 months 555

We need an alcohol ban immediately. That'll sort it all out.

Thailand reports first domestic coronavirus case in 100 days

2020-09-03.jpeg

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand on Thursday reported its first local coronavirus transmission in more than 100 days, officials said, after a man who was recently imprisoned failed a routine test at a Bangkok jail.

The man, 37, tested positive on Wednesday during scheduled weekly testing, the Department of Corrections said in a statement, adding that he had not travelled abroad or been in close contact with a known positive case.

The man, a former nightclub DJ, has since been hospitalized and prisoners who came into contact with him have been isolated.

All of Thailand's cases in the past three months have been imported and detected in quarantine.

Prisoner tests positive becoming first local Covid-19 case in 100 days

By THE NATION

The Department of Disease Control (DDC) confirmed on Thursday (September 3) that a 37-year-old man being detained over drug charges has tested positive for Covid-19.

This is the first locally transmitted Covid-19 case in Thailand in over 100 days.

Dr Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoenchai, DDC director general, said the prisoner was recently shifted to the Central Special Correctional Institution in Bangkok.

The man lived in a condo in Bangkok’s Bang Mod area and worked as a DJ in Rama III and Rama V areas before being caught.

The prisoner has been sent to hospital, while the 34 prisoners who were in the same cell are being quarantined.

Medical officials have learned that the man had come in contact with five relatives, two of whom are living upcountry.

The only reason they caught this one seems to be because they test the ones going to prison.

BANGKOK — An inmate at Khlong Prem Prison tested positive for the coronavirus in what officials described Thursday as the Kingdom’s first case of local infection in 100 days.

The 37-year-old prisoner was jailed on drug charges and shared a cellroom with 34 other inmates, officials said in an urgent news conference. He is said to have worked as a DJ in popular nightlife areas, including Khaosan Road, and up to 34 people are considered to be at high risk of contracting the virus from him.

It's quite naive believing the spin that they have been coming out with.
