Coronavirus could be with us 'forever': Scientist warns of 'horrific' situation if survivors can get re-infected — even though experts believe immunity will make the disease milder in future

  • Professor Graeme Ackland said if people get re-infected it could be 'horrific'
  • It's unclear if immunity lasts because the virus has only been around this year
  • Chief scientific advisors to the Government have previously warned Covid-19 will be around forever because it may act like other seasonal viruses
  • Prof Ackland was part of the Edinburgh University study published Wednesday
  • It examined various lockdown scenarios and found they could prolong the crisis

Yes, we got that thanks!

There's quite an outbreak in the UK right now - it's getting worse by the day, the hospitals are beginning to fill up with COVID patients again.

Of course we don't know how it will turn out just yet but based on what I've heard I suspect the entire country will be under some kind of 'lockdown' again within the next 10 days or so.

Oh, and we don't have a President Trump in the UK, yet we still have COVID, how does that work ?

It works that the world needs to up it's game in science education and combatting wild conspiracy theories.

Here is an alternative viewpoint.:

Here is a declaration by 3 health care professionals who just came forward on the issue of herd immunity. It is the Great Barrington Declaration made by 3 scholars in the fields of epidemiology:

1 Dr. Martin Kulldorff, professor of medicine at Harvard University, a biostatistician, and epidemiologist with expertise in detecting and monitoring of infectious disease outbreaks and vaccine safety evaluations.2 Dr. Sunetra Gupta, professor at Oxford University, an epidemiologist with expertise in immunology, vaccine development, and mathematical modeling of infectious diseases.3.Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, professor at Stanford University Medical School, a physician, epidemiologist, health economist, and public health policy expert focusing on infectious diseases and vulnerable populations.

Here is one of the central paragraphs of the declaration: "As immunity builds in the population, the risk of infection to all – including the vulnerable – falls. We know that all populations will eventually reach herd immunity – i.e.  the point at which the rate of new infections is stable – and that this can be assisted by (but is not dependent upon) a vaccine. Our goal should therefore be to minimize mortality and social harm until we reach herd immunity."

The declaration was cosigned by approximately 13,000 health care professionals, including 36 cosigners with their names and credentials. So yes, there are many thousands of them it appears.

Here is the full document link:

https://gbdeclaration.org/

There is also a 30 minute interview with the three main epidemiologists who made this declaration on Oct 5, 2020 by Freddie Sayers on youtube on his unherd youtube channel. I can provide this link if people so desire.

I hope people find these people to be credible medical professionals. These thousands of health care professionals don't advocate doing nothing, but they view these lockdown policies to have the opposite effect desired. They prolong the epidemic and prolong the period when at risk people will have to be protected and be at risk. In addition they create many more health problems and deaths. They believe public health can never just focus on one disease, but must focus on the entirety of public health and all the ailments which affect society.

Please read the full document and peruse the names and credentials of many of the signers of the document. One can also sign it as a member of the general public and there are health care professionals who signed it from Thailand.

14 000 signatures of self declared scientists and practioners in the medical field in the entire world. That is even less % than the % of people that die of covid, a % so mocked by covid deniers. Far far far less.

UK Facts:

8th Oct: 113,575 hospital beds occupied. 2069 of the by Covid-19 patents.

8th Oct 24 hrs: 310 reported hospital admission and diagnoses of Covid-19. 285 of them discharged.

The data is so readily available...  the media is sensationalising every tiny facet of this illness, each and every time I source and find facts I’m astonished at the continued response.

It was an issue. The initial lock down was valid. Continued lockdown is outrageous.

I will believe the covid deniers soon as they tell me who benefits from this "hoax".

Farmaceutical big bussines? Yes of course, but has it ever been otherwise? They just simply saw an opportunity for more profits.

Politicians? Now that is a strange coalition, from right (Bojo) to left (Sanchez). And why do trump and Bolsanaro and Loekashenko not join in?

Realistically speaking, the Reptilians of David Icke make more sense...... 555

As soon as Trump leaves office you will never hear about the virus again.

Reposting this since it's relevant..... Some perspective to consider..... In the USA, which is one of the most affect countries, we've seen on average 66 people per county (like an "Ampur" in Thailand) die in the last 8 months, mostly during the peak in feb-may. These people as we have learned were primarily elderly and/or had pre-existing medial conditions.

The county I'm from in Colorado has about 300k people in it. If no one had told me about the pandemic I would have had no idea that 66 people died in our county and it was from a virus.

200,000 sounds like a large number but it's ~0.0006% of the US population. It's bad, but it's not THAT bad. Time for people to start getting perspective.

Wow , you got several times more people in your country then counted over the complete world .

Yes of course. They don't exist. Any difference of opinion must be fake news. Please feel free to search and refute the medical professionals who were signatories. And the 3 front and center academics from Harvard, Stanford and Oxford, well they must not be credible and their statements that their opinions and normal scientific discussion were not being allowed must be meaningless. In addition, there were the 36 other cosigners to have the courage to say they disagree. This is just getting started. There are thousands of medical practitioners, researchers etc who agree with them.

Keep you head in the sand and believe what the corporate media feeds you instead if you so choose. I recommend being open minded and watching their interview. The policies they recommend are public health 101 for epidemics and are standard medical policies with scientific backing. This medieval nonsense currently being done are the policies with no scientific basis.

Lockdowns don't, IMO, eradicate the disease, they just, IMO, suppress infections till lockdown is eased and all the uninfected without immunity mingle again.

If a vaccine doesn't appear how long can a society lockdown till it is destroyed completely?

The UK will be locked into a cycle of lockdowns to get the infection rate down followed by easing of social distancing requirements, but then, since they can't seem to manage to do testing and contact tracing, infections will increase until it is time for another lockdown.

Why doesn't Boris Johnson just high some Chinese or Korean consultants to teach the Brits how to manage the epidemic?

Let's be aware of the fact that NO disease has ever been eradicated by herd immunity alone.  Only two have been eradicated through herd immunity WITH a vaccine, those are rinderpest and smallpox.

There is nothing to indicate that herd immunity will work in eliminating coronavirus.  From what we know, even immunity is not long lasting.

The indeed draconian measures against covid work more or less, therefore there is no more need for them?

Strange logic.

Maybe in Farangland we should abolish the enforcement of traffic rules, since there are so few road victims?

Perhaps we have erred in saying that herd immunity will stop corona, but if no vaccine ( as for flu ) is available for a year or two, what alternative is there? Permanent lockdown is obviously a non starter. There was no lockdown for smallpox, or polio while waiting for a vaccine.

The "draconian" measures may work against corona, but they also work against economies, increase national debt, unemployment, suicides, domestic abuse etc.

I think this is a good time to ask questions about the need for all that material "welfare" that we got used to.

We live in a different time than we did during the time of smallpox and polio.   Smallpox was around for a very long time, I believe it coexisted at least as far back as 10,000BC.  When an infection broke out, you can rest assured there was major social upheaval and a definite effect on the economy.   There was isolation of infected people, often in what were called 'pesthouses', sometimes on islands.   There was major social unrest with the rich blaming the poor for spreading the disease and whites blaming blacks.   But it had a death rate that sometimes killed 1/3 of the infected.  Prior to being eradicated, with reasonably good medical care the death rate was around 17%.   That's a very deadly disease.

Polio is a rather benign viral infection that usually attacks the gastro-intestinal tract and may cause very mild symptoms to no symptoms at all.   We don't know how many people have been infected and went unnoticed.   The percent who get the infection in the nervous system, known as poliomyelitis, are the ones who are visible.  The disease is devastating and debilitating.   It was enormously expensive to treat.   It was spread through fecal matter.

Lockdowns can't last forever, but they need to be implemented when there is a real concern it will overwhelm the medical system.  It also requires that we have a system of contact tracing, but for that to be effective the virus needs to be under reasonable control.   The economy will simply limp along with massive number of people out sick, supply lines interrupted, etc..

The virus needs to be under control and in places where it isn't, then targeted lockdowns will have to be implemented.

People already don't accept the "rules". That will only become more widespread, IMO, if they keep trying to lockdown.

They can try, but IMO will fail to make us lockdown indefinitely.
