Thailand's telecom giant CAT has worked with IBM on what is called the "CAT Covid Tracker" a web application designed to help the country as it prepares to open up to foreign tourists.

It is hoped that the application will raise confidence in the ability of the country to handle the anticipated arrival of foreign tourists.

The app is principally designed to help hotels and their staff involved in the ASQ or alternative state quarantine scheme.

One way it will help is that staff at the quarantine facilities will be able to monitor the quarantined tourists' health without the need for direct and possibly hazardous contact in their 14 day isolation rooms.

Each guest will have a username and password so they can be clearly identified..

Manager said this system will enhance the country's ability to deal with the reintroduction of foreign tourists and inspire confidence.

I sure hope this information is secure, and not hackable.  Just what someone needs on the internet, and to be used by god knows who.

No app needed; instead, just turn the ASQ hotel rooms into solitary confinement jail cells.

Sounds more fun by the day.

They don't have phone's!? How much this wonderful app cost! Nice to monitor 3 tourist inside ASQ hotel's, in Phuket! Good it's now so "easy" . Teatch one month how use that one, reason can move forward your great plans again!

Or maybe better yet is to install CCTV into every ASQ hotel room and stream it live on Facebook, Youtube, local TV, etc., 24/7 so all Thais can constantly monitor farangs.

Amazing to see that there's no end to the rubbish some departments will put out to so they feel that they're still relevant and they too, have something to say, never mind that is it mostly rubbish and at least it is their way to say: hey we're here too and we're too and still relevant to what that is going on...

so only for incoming tourists ?

what about the many many infected Thais entering the country, why not include them too

any figures on how many "dirty foreigners" have found to have the Covid, compared to how many Thais ?

Lots of Thai people out of work why not employ one per dirty farang with a warning bell and a sign in Thai, Chinese, Japanese and English stating warning dirty farang coming. Will help the unemployed and reinforce the Government message that farangs are dirty!

And please tell us how many staff at quarantine facilities have been infected by "direct and possibly hazardous contact" with the tens of thousands of Thais who have already returned from overseas and been through the quarantine period without the benefit of this application?

It's just a silly PR stunt.

All you winging %*#$s are already in Thailand.  I will welcome it if it helps reduce the amount of quarantine time so that I can spend more time with my family. It is easy for you all still sit there procrastinating about civil liberties etc. But your all talking <deleted> imho, I work in the middle east where tracking apps are much more intrusive but they are effective.

I only have so much holiday built up to use at one time, anything that stops me having to spend half of it in quarantine is a huge plus. Ive got nothing to hide so why should I care if they are tracking me and if someone I was with tests positive and I get an early alert so much the better.

So to all of you bar stool civil libertarian wind your necks in and stop talking tosh. Go and live in a real police state for a while then come back and enjoy the freedom you have without running down every positive idea to speed up the reintroduction of tourism into Thailand.
