Hunt on for foreigners after daring escape from immigration detention centre

Huge resources including immigration police, regular police, soldiers and sniffer dogs were combing an area near a Mae Sot detention center yesterday after two illegal immigrants from Turkey escaped.

 

Sanook called them a couple of very smart guys. 

 

Moorat, 41, and Rasit, 29, who belong to the Uighur group, escaped from the Mae Sot, Tak, north west Thailand detention center cells at 3 am on Wednesday night. 

 

An immigration bigwig was demanding that they be found.

 

They were described as "masters of disguise" after they managed to escape detention in Nong Khai in the north east for a period of 21 days. 

 

They were subsequently transferred to Mae Sot mid-February and since then had been planning another daring dash for freedom.

 

This time they gradually weakened the bars of their cell with soap until they could easily snap them and escape into a cornfield. 

 

They are believed to be trying to get across the border into neighboring Myanmar. 

 

Sanook reported that they currently remain at large.

How many years were they in that cell?

We are quite used to reading ridiculous things about happenings here, but hells teeth, thats the best 1 yet.

Will Myanmar require them to do COVID tests and fill out 90 day forms?

Cheap soap is quite acidic and will corrode steel. Over a period of months, smearing the soap on the bars and leaving it on, I can see them weakening considerably.

If they’re Uighurs….they’re way up there on China’s ‘hit list’. So they were probably looking at being handed over to the Chinese and shipped directly to a concentration camp. Good luck with the get-away guys….hope you make it out of Thailand.

Escapes seem pretty common in Thailand, but these guys are not going to their mommy's house.

Too bad they didn't have tourists there, they may have been able to help

Probably lost in translation, the soap being used as a lubricant to saw through the bars....
