  • You want democracy hand power back to the people and stay out of politics very simple really . A democratic Government is one that is run by the people (not armed forces) for the people .

step 1 - have an election (make the people feel they are voting for something)

step 2 - install who you want in the top jobs in government that nobody voted for

step 3 - arrest and imprison anyone that the people actually voted for

step 4 - don't allow anyone to talk about it

step 5 - fill your boots

step 6 - yippie

Democracy Thai style

oh and time it just when the IMF hand over $600m in relief funds

Thailand - Cambodia - Burma .........democracy 101

sorry if I missed something

Asking Prayut for help on democracy is like asking Hitler for help organising a local bar mitzvah.

Pro-tip: Have a parliament with 250 junta-appointed Senators.

When coup leaders start to use the word democracy...

He really didn't ask about democracy rather than "Hay mate, how did you keep the great unwashed under control and profit from it?"

keep on announcing, 'all we want is happiness for the people'

they didn't specify which people!

'Ere Mate, how do'ya rig an election ?'

why rig, when we can start the 100 sprint, at the 70 meter mark and the peasants can do the full 100 meters

What a truly vile part of the world South East Asia is.

The PM's knowledge of 'democracy" could be written in bold capital letters on the back of a postage stamp..and you would still have enough space for the first two chapters of 'War and Peace'.

What has an aircraft carrier laid down in 1992 as a new build vessel for the RTN got to do with the present Thai government?

If you want to ask that question, why not ask this one as well:

"What has democracy got to do with the present Thai government"?

then,

"What has the current aircraft carrier actually achieved in the past 5 years?"

"How many hours has it spent at sea?"

"What does this government plan to do with it - regarding it's future as a decaying and old 'warship'?"

"What does the government intend to do with the submarines it is buying?"

"Will they too be destined to rot alongside the jetty?"

"What does the government intend to do with the armoured vehicles purchased?"

"Who are they to be deployed against and why?"

Kind of related subjects ... don't you think?

See? Everyone has an opinion - that is what this forum is all about. Chill out - it was just an observation?

Why does it need scrutiny from you?

Yes but it is an inaccurate observation as the carrier was not second hand and was not bought since the coup.

Perhaps they should also consult China, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, etc.

That's like asking Ted Bundy for tips on how to pick up women.

It's so idiotic the meaning is lost on the rest of the planet.

Asia is a total mess.  Always has been, probably always will be.

I agree with you.  It is the funniest thing I've heard in years too.

Nicolas Maduro (Venezuela)?

There are many.

Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, who himself first seized power in a coup, said on Wednesday he had received a letter from Myanmar's new junta leader asking for help to support democracy.

He'll tell them to do the same as he did, rig the election and wear a pink jacket.

Prayuth replies:

1. You need to get a new nickname, benign like Uncle Something

2. You need to get a frog, very important

1. + 2. = instant Democracy

If you want anything answered by this self-legalized Thai government, then ask Prawatch ... ahem .... Prawit. Prayut is executing.

Yet I find this hard to believe, that a Burmese general is asking; they are much more experienced than their Thai brothers, had to care for absolutely nothing, had no higher-up power to consult for approval etc.

Thais are good in inventing funny rules like no booze on Buddhist holidays (nowhere else in Buddhist countries like Burma, Laos or Cambodia), alcohol sales hours and restrictions, keeping foreigners on an extremely short leash while making sure that everything is payable by skin colour.

The Burmese will find their own way out of their mess invoked by their army and, like in Thailand, this takes a long time as its electorate is lenient, obedient and used to pain, irregularities and overrulings. A matter of (possibly a long) time!

When one general who seized power in an illegal coup asks another general who seized power in an illegal coup for "advice on democracy' you just know that you are not in Kansas anymore.

Honestly, how absurd and farcical can it get?

undoubtely, the joke of the year

I think you're confusing him with Biden!

At least they've got a sense of humor, these generals.

Unfortunately it's much less funny for all the regular people concerned.

Bow down to China and sign any agreement they give you and become filthy rich as other Army Generals in the past have done in the past Ed Amin comes to mind as he was one the first of many unsuccessful  coup which have failed in the past, as in time another General will successfully rid you of your glory and exile you .
