I am far from fond of Trump but it’s unlikely that the Republican Party has any other candidate that can pull in the kind of voter numbers that Trump did.  It’s a bit unfair to paint everyone with the same brush but I am going to take a leap here and say that the majority of those in the Republican Party care more about being in power than they do about the well being of their voters.

Absolutely agree with you. Just look at the 253 restrictive bills in 43 states that unleashed by the GOPs aimed at restricting ballot access and voter suppression so that they can get into power. Rep Party under Trump is a disgrace to democratic principle of more active participation of the people.

He [Trump] is truly a winner and as each day goes by millions upon millions of Americans will see the light! I for one only hope we can make it to 2022 without speaking Chinese.

True, but they must also be thinking...oops....it still wasn't enough last time....maybe we need a different tack......they won't though none of them (apart from Cassidy and Cheney maybe?) have any morals.

Probably, due to his immigration policies and support of the Proud  Boys.

And people still support the guy who's supporters wanted to kill his vice-president and senators. Why is he not in jail?

Please don't compare any banana republic with that. Because in a banana republic he would be in jail or dead by now.

Just look at all the new red hats. They look like wolves in sheep's clothing?

I think they look like sheep. And probably their brains, or whatever they have between their ears, are also more similar to sheep.

Well obviously but when you proclaim 'Attacking Trump supporters at any chance, claiming all are racist......', can you see why this happens when there is so much validity from even the acts you have mentioned here?

I don't think any fair minded individual is foolish enough to think that the 77 million Americans who voted for Trump are all racist but they were obviously quite happy to turn a blind eye to what can be easily see as racist policies, racist advocacy (Proud Boys, Charolttesville etc) and racist dogma. THIS is the worrying thing and though undoubtedly unhelpful to tar everyone with the same brush, you have to question why such obvious and extreme xenophobia/racism was not enough of a priority for so many.

Time for the US to get used to having an active opposition, as do most developed countries.

That's been going on for decades.

I repeat - nothing but a sea of white faces and Fox-approved bleached blondes at CPAC.. That the KKK, Proud Boys, and the same support the former president says it all.

Active opposition, fine.

Insurrectionist, pro voter suppression, pro authoritarian opposition means the end of American democracy if they ultimately prevail, and there is a high risk that they will.

A number of trolling posts, a conspiracy post and multiple replies have been removed.

Because the 8 years of the Obama administration were characterized by Republican obeisance? Interesting to see that you believe that the 4 years of the Trump administration saw no active opposition.

He is the future of the republican party. With his help it will become a minor player in American politics.

It can't happen soon enough for me.

For the immediate future the republican party is stuck with the former president guy. That's an own goal for them. Hopefully the country and the world can be rid of him but thats to be determined.

Opinion: The GOP is trapped in Trump’s rendezvous with yesterday

March 1, 2021

The act was old. The self-involvement was as intense as ever. The lies about the 2020 election continued.

I pray he [Trump] is the Republican candidate. Independents like myself are only wishing this enthusiasm stays in play another four years. Guarantee he looses! Any takers? Glad I won last time I made my bet.

IMO this is a highly wishful situation on DT's part: he'll either be facing prison or be in exile by then.  If his health doesn't catch up with him, of course.  I don't think the kids have a chance at the WH, but the idea that daughter can run for the House of Rep. from a district in Florida is plausible.  Don Jr comes off like a dumbed-down version of Rand Paul (think about that one for a while).  I think the "Saint Peter" of Trumpism will be Flynn, with Bannon as the John the Baptist (switching from the Italy-Germany post WWI playbook to the Bible for analogy).

Thursday may be interesting, another redneck uprising.

Trump has discussed privately running again for president in 2024, according to advisers, but the speech excerpts gave no hint of what he might do

Was he imitating a firetruck on an emergency with the who-woo-who bit about running again at the end  ..

Waiting for the infection counts post super spreader CPAC. Vociferous crowd, maskless and close proximity are just the recipe for covid disaster. No worry for vaccinated super spreader chief. It is all about himself as usual.

No. In such a tragic scenario I would expect Don jr or perhaps Ivanka to step up and fill the position. Trump is a trusted brand among Republicans and also generally among libertarians/conservatives/patriots who do not identify as "Republican". The name is a trusted brand because he ran on promises, and after winning did exactly what he said he would do(never happened before, won't happen again). That he was attacked by the losers for 4 straight years that called him an "illegitimate President" by the Democrat power players like Mrs Clinton, Biden himself, and Jimmy Carter , and made all all manner of hoaxes to bash him without evidence strengthened the support and trust for the Trump name. He is rightly a hero to 70 million Americans and many more people worldwide that value freedom and honesty - see his image used by HK anti communist protestors as an example.

Still, I would rather see Trump sr. serve one more term before handing the reins over to his kids and their kids next. America would be in good hands if leadership remains stacked with Trump DNA.

As far as a replacement for the former president guy to further champion the toxic political disease of Trumpism, well, there are many aspirants for that role but the truth is nobody does the former president guy nearly as well as the former president guy himself. After all world class con man demagogues don't grow on trees. He was a horribly bad very damaging president but he has incredible skills in propaganda and the dark arts of con men.

Nobody can really predict the longevity of Trumpism with or without the man behind it.

".......the future of the Republican Party....."

Surprised.....though he might have gone          "....the future of the human race....."

Back in high school I remembered seeing planes fly into buildings in New York. I remember studying how the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in a surprise attack...

Trump did far worse...He directed and told his supporters to violently overthrow the legally elected President Biden in a violent and bloody insurrection, a coup and a rebellion.

Trump is responsible for the direct attack on the worlds heart of democracy!

Hard to believe, but watch some street interviews (always very dubious).....all Trump supporters claiming it was definitely Antifa that stormed the capitol??????

You mean he offered a health insurance plan that was beautiful, better, and cheaper? And what about his trillion dollar infrastructure plan? He also promised to crack down on hedge funds and the like.

If in favor for Trump or against him .... if he should start his own party  .....it would be a disaster for the Republicans to loose  his followers .... so they have a dilemma if they even think of dumping him ......a Pandora box to open .....

Just an outsider's opinion ....guy's .... he is a factor in the game with his followers ????
