Thailand reports daily record 967 new coronavirus infections

Featured Replies

Time to think about a vaccination program. Suppose there are coming more cases and Thailand is not prepared to give their people a jab. with 550.000 vaccinated people they can not fight the spreading of this  virus.......but the government has time to think, first a holiday of course

Hardly any surprise, apart from that is those in denial.

Thailand vaccinations report thru yesterday, April 10

Total doses, number first shot, and number second shot:

https://www.facebook.com/fanmoph/posts/6049302848429353

It's worth noting, at least up until now, pretty much all those vaccinations have been for the government's various targeted groups, and not the general public.

The targeted groups include health care workers and first responders, people over 60, those with high-risk exposure, people with chronic diseases, and of course, government types.

AFAIK, unless something breaks loose from the private sector in the meantime, widespread public vaccination under the government's program with their own locally made AstraZeneca vaccine isn't slated to start until June or after.

All rubbish about treatments!!!! I know where 2 people in an apartment near me having COVID 19, informed the govt hospital but no pickup and the reason was because the beds are full!!! They are a poor couple... so money no honey!!! The real infection, in treatment patients and deaths are TOTALLY UNDERSTATED!!! If you have the money.... Thai or foreigner - get the shots if you can afford it!!!! No use talking about - DO IT!!!

Ok, Can you please tell me how and where to get the vaccine in Thailand?

"Thailand discovers 967 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours

- 530 via tests at medical facilities
- 434 via proactive tests
- 3 in quarantine facilities

Of the 964 local cases that were found in the past 24 hours:
--236 were found in Bangkok alone
--followed by Chiang Mai (189)
--and Chonburi (180).

Seventy provinces have reported coronavirus cases between April 1 and 11, compared to 14 provinces between March 28 and April 3, a week before the third wave began."

Other province numbers reported today:

--Prachuap Khiri Khan -- 49
--Samut Prakan -- 48
--Phuket -- 29
--Pathum Thani -- 26
--Saraburi -- 23

PS - with the case numbers rising and spreading to almost all provinces in Thailand, some province governors and health officials have taken to reporting their own local numbers as well. Usually, it takes a day or more before the local province tallies get reflected into the national tally released by the Ministry of Public Health. So at times, the locally reported province numbers won't match the national ones.

For many of the Thai people (remember this is their  country) a full lockdown would be absolutely  catastrophic on many levels.

The government has to find the right balance that suits as many people as possible, from all walks of life.

They also need to start convincing the population that the vaccines are safe because at the moment the fear factor surrounding them is rife.

I think most people here are talking about the ridiculous decision to allow Songkran travel and now as a result lockdowns are inevitable. There is still time to lockdown now for 4 weeks or so to contain this, it will be much cheaper then locking down for months later and so better for all Thai people and us.

Yes the vaccines is the other issue, the government didn't order enough! There's no shortage of takers, thousands in Phuket and elsewhere grabbing at them when they are there.

The strain of Covid-19 found in Thailand among visitors to entertainment venues in Bangkok has the spike pattern that matches perfectly with the Cambodia strain.

Chulalongkorn University virology specialist Dr Yong Poovorawan said the latest strain does not match 100% with the British or other strains, but displays a 100% match with the Cambodia strain.

The Cambodia strain had been found spreading in Cambodia about 6 weeks before it was detected in Thailand. From this data, it is conclusive that the latest wave at entertainment venues is related to the Cambodia strain of the virus.

Oh dear that is going to upset the netizens, whomever they are, hoping to blame the UK in their total ignorance of medical facts.  Now let's see, is illegal labour from Cambodia, facilitated by state organisations for a "bung", to be employed at miserly rates, by some of the most wealthy industrialists in Thailand a factor or not ?  If so according to the government minister they should be jailed.

Nothing to be found about a so called Cambodian strain. Maybe the UK strain in Cambodia has mutated a little but there is currently no official Cambodian strain that has been classified and indexed, not that I can see anyway.

There hasn't been such a thing as 'High Season' for years, since way before Covid. It's been a self perpetuating  myth for at least 10 years. Covid has finally put an end to that nonsense and that opportunity for hoteliers and others  to rip off people.

Yes, a good question.

What is the recommended procedure in Thai hospitals or is this something they wont reveal to the media?

Don't you think the recommended procedure depends on the patient?

Its not like a broken bone where the treatment will be the same for 99% of the population. It will probably depend on age, weight, underlying health issues (!!!), and severity of the symptoms.

And I doubt they don't want to reveal it to the media, I suppose the media just doesn't ask the question because why would their readers be interested in the recommended procedures? When you check in at the hospital they will treat you, there is no need to know beforehand which medicines are recommended or arrive with your own checklist to double-check them.

i agree, which is why I said keep the businesses open and only ban inter-provincial travel.

it wasn't "absolutely catastrophic" before, simply very bad.  of course, we really have no idea.

i also agree there needs to be a REAL stimulus package.  The baht is strong and a multi-trillion baht package won't destroy their currency.   print that money!!!

So it is not the UK variant? The folks in Cambodia believe apparently that the strain came from Thailand from those returning migrants to Cambodia who brought it back with them.  This will be interesting to see a genomic interpretation if possible.

This year has gone!!!

If they do not totally shut down all of Bangkok, I fear the majority of people may get it.

Just way too many people densely packed and always on the move..

After a severe Covid-19 infection, the governor of Samut Sakhon, the epicentre of the recent outbreak in Thailand, was released from the hospital after nearly 3 months of treatment. The virus negatively affected Governor Veerasak Vichitsangsri’s lung function and led to a bacterial infection.

More than 4,300 people in Thailand with COVID positive tests currently admitted into some kind of hospital/field hospital venue, most said to only be showing minor symptoms.

The number has been steadily climbing each day because, under government policy, anyone with a positive COVID test is required to be admitted into some kind of facility until no longer contagious.

Good question is how effective Sinovac and Astra Zeneca are against this strain...

Thailand on Sunday reported 967 new coronavirus cases, the biggest one day jump

And that's with a shortage of testing kits at some hospitals. One thing's for sure - the real number is a lot higher than 967.

Lets hope there will be less people traveling to Thailand on the cheap less effective Chinese vaccine. I think Thailand will have it's hands full enough with covid during Songkran.

Charts for the day from MoPH:

Trendline for COVID cases since mid-December. Red line shows the self-referred cases, while the tan bars separately show cases found thru outreach testing. They are separate totals on the chart, which doesn't add the two separate types of data together. The high tan bars middle of the chart reflects outreach testing and cases from the prior Samut Sakhon outbreak.

And then the international and regional comparisons the MoPH prepares each day. Both charts below are ranked by numbers of total cumulative reported COVID cases per country

Do you live here in Thailand or elsewhere.  Thailand's way of dealing with this virus has always been to isolate a person in a hospital whether asymptomatic or symptomatic.  The other way they have dealt with it has been to place you in a field hospital and when symptoms showed up carted you off to the hospital.  The final way they dealt with it was to ring entire factories with barbed wire and lock all inside, just like they did with the migrant workers in Samut Sakhon.  It is done this way because in the early days of the virus spreading, folks that were asked to quarantine at home, think little ghosts as they are called, failed to follow the orders and then went out partying.  Thai people do not listen to orders or follow rules often, and the "I feel Fine" "What do you mean I can not go out" crowd will never be kept inside, and so mandatory hospitalization was enacted.  Think about all of those with little money who also share a 25 sqm apartment with 5 or 6 others, and rely on buying food from street vendors, and the local 7-11.  How would you isolate them in their home from the others and still get them the needed food.  Nice try Hoax, but the reality here is they are and will be hospitalized until this government decides to try again, but then those that live in crowded conditions must be separated to contain the spread.

Yes I live in Thailand.

I agree with you, kinda even said the same in the post you quoted, but I'm saying good luck to Thailand if they're going to continue that route if cases reach 10k+ daily in a worst case scenario, knowing that in Europe most large hospitals doesn't even have a capacity of 1,000 beds. Only 2 hospitals in the world have a capacity of more than 3,500 beds. When hospitals are filled with covid patients in most of the world, it's not because 60% of the beds are occupied by asymptomatic patients. These are patients who need treatment, the rest are told to stay home.

I see the issues you're referring to, and Thailand need to have solutions at hand if needed, like free food delivery and strict control and penalties for people breaching quarantine. Field hospitals is of course another option but I don't know, would you rather spend two weeks at home or in a sweaty and uncomfortable bed with hundreds or thousands of others? I think most people in Thailand would prefer watching TV at home.

That being said, I disagree with you on Thai's not following orders. Compared to western countries Thais are much better at following government guidance and rules, so not sure where you're getting that idea from.

You might want to look at the historical facts, especially with Covid and the returnees from S. Korea, then look at the road issues with those that fail to obey laws and rules.  It goes hand in hand unfortunately.

Only the South African strain was AZ found to be less effective, with the UK strain its normal and has done a fantastic job in the UK bringing down infection rates. Its the Sinovac vaccine that you should be worrying about, this is found to be far less effective against UK strain
