Seems like it plays a large part on who spreads it too.

Most of the people involved in the current, entertainment venue based outbreaks have been younger, working age people, who probably have better odds of avoiding serious symptoms.

The concern, of course, is those folks, with minor symptoms or without, will now travel home for the Song Kran holidays and spread the virus to their extended families including the elderly, who have much greater risks of serious outcomes.

Young, rich and take a plane like it's a taxi.

BMA in Bangkok is continuing to do outreach COVID testing in the Thong Lo area... Latest results show a 16.4% overall positive rate among the COVID tests they have results back for among those tested.

Total results back thus far, 4016. Total positives, 659. Any positivity rate above 5% is a cause for concern.

The rate of growth of this surge indicates it is out of control and serious restrictions on movements and closure of non essential venues for at least 14 days should be employed to stop the spread. Allowing entertainment places like those in soi Tong Lor to open was crazy, and the lack of an aggressive vaccination program is going to cost this Country dearly.

1000 and no talk of lock downs.   I think the most important time for Thailand is from October until February, high season for the falang and everyone else.

lock it down.  one month.  better safe than sorry.  i don't mean close all the businesses, just ban inter-provincial travel and keep the hot spots from spreading.

That should have been done last week before people started to travel for Songkran

Looks like the crazy sandbox idea with Phuket starting July is going to be a non starter now along with all the other hair brained ideas such as the travel bubbles with OZ/NZ by the TAT Minister....

Let's see what idiotic plans and numbers they can dream up whilst working from home.

According to Matichon, the deputy Governor of TAT believed he was infected after a “round of golf with friends” on 4th April. The people he played golf with were foreign diplomats, representatives of foreign chambers of commerce and the Minister of Tourism and Sports #Thailand

The Deputy TAT Governor Thanet Phetsuwan  has just tested positive for covid and all TAT staff in Bangkok have been told to work from home (Richard Barrow) so I guess they can all twiddle their thumbs in comfort rather than in the office doing nothing.

The Ministry of Public Health the other day did a report on the demographics of the COVID cases that are part of the entertainment venue clusters...

The report said the oldest age person among the entertainment venue cases they've tracked thus far is 76 years old.  My curiosity is killing me to know and wonder, just who was/is that 76-year-old??? Someone in authority, I'd wager.

,And for all the Government "Breaking News Alerts", are we not at about 100 thousand vaccinations that have actually  been injected into peoples arms in our beloved Thailand!

NOT withstanding that the FDA have "approved" THREE (3) vaccines for use in Thailand!

And they, the (Gov) are generously predicting that "only" half the population will be vaccinated by years end!

What the heck Ministers, they are tiny little bottles and 5 baht needles. SAVE YOUR PEOPLE & their BUSINESS'S!

CHINESE OFFICIALS SAY CHINESE VACCINES’ EFFECTIVENESS LOW

In a rare admission of the weakness of Chinese coronavirus vaccines, the country’s top disease control official says their effectiveness is low and the government is considering mixing them to give them a boost.

Chinese CDC director refutes interpretation of ‘low protection rate of Chinese vaccines,’ says it confuses scientific vision he proposes to improve efficacy

Quote

The Director of the Chinese Center of Disease Control (China CDC) on Sunday refuted claims by some media outlets and overseas social media platform users that the director “admitted” Chinese COVID-19 vaccines have a low protection rate, saying that “it was a complete misunderstanding.”

In an exclusive interview with the Global Times, Gao <deleted>, head of the China CDC, said as scientists around the world are discussing vaccine efficacy, he offered a scientific vision: that to improve the efficacy, adjustment of vaccination procedures and sequential inoculation of different types of vaccines might be options.

"The protection rates of all vaccines in the world are sometimes high, and sometimes low. How to improve their efficacy is a question that needs to be considered by scientists around the world," Gao said. "In this regard, I suggest that we can consider adjusting the vaccination process, such as the number of doses and intervals and adopting sequential vaccination with different types of vaccines.”

Thailand was the first country outside of China to have Covid but we never heard about the origin then did we?

I think the op is quite right to point out that suddenly the origin of a particular strain is now so very important because now the finger pointing can begin .. as always

China has announced today their vaccine is not as effective as they thought it was. That is about to cause huge problems for anyone that bought it. China's vaccine was thought to be 50.4%, the limit apparently is 50% effectiveness for it to be useful,

Now they recommend extending vaccine dates and mixing it with other vaccines. I wonder if that is so they can say it works after actually mixing it with one that DOES work.

If the Chinese openly say something they make is not good, then you know it's 100% rubbish

No, they didn't.

https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202104/1220774.shtml

China has 5 approved vaccines at the moment (3 inactivated, 1 viral vector and 1 protein subunit), and a dozen more under various trial stages.

Chula Univ. virologist Dr. Poovorawan was part of the MoPH's daily briefing today.... He was speaking in Thai, but this is the way the government characterized his comments in English -- "COVID 19 vaccine used in Thailand is effective."

Since the vast majority of the vaccines in Thailand for the foreseeable future are going to be the Chinese Sinovac version, I really would have liked to hear an EN full version of what he had to say on the topic.

BMA field hospitals are ready to accommodate COVID-19 patients

...

The Governor of Bangkok revealed that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) had the field hospitals readied to accommodate the treatment and caring of COVID-19 patients that tend to rise quickly. Initially, the BMA had prepared 4 field hospitals as follows:

1. Bang Khun Thian Geriatric Hospital in Bang Khun Thian District with a capacity of 500 beds;

2. Ratchaphiphat Hospital in Thawi Watthana district with a capacity of 200 beds;

3. Chaloem Phrakiat 84 Phansa Bang Bon Stadium in Bang Bon district with a capacity of 200 beds, expected to open for service on April 13, 2021;

4. Bangkok Arena Sports Center in Nong Chok district with a capacity of 350 beds (the place is now under renovation).

Furthermore, the BMA will find out additional places that can be converted into the field hospitals in case that the number of patients is increasing."

What I would like to know is, what, after a year of treating patients with symptoms, is the recommended procedure when admitted to hospital? Very few seem to be dying despite the rising numbers.

Are doctors on top of this now after all the hit-and-miss earlier efforts of malarial drugs, on your back or on your stomach in a ventilator and all the other drugs used in the early days. What actually works? Surely after this length of time, variant-permitting, hospitals are better prepared, and not just in Thailand.

Never see any reports on current treatment.

According to my niece-doctor in Bangkok, if there's a death complicated by covid then the underlying disease is recorded as the death. Only a death with no underlying condition is recorded as a covid death. So while there was an upturn of people dying from emphysema, diabetes, etc, the numbers show Thailand is winning the covid fight

The Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) has received 1 million doses of Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine from China on Saturday.

GPO Director Dr Withoon Danwiboon said this vaccine is the third lot from a total of 2 million doses that the GPO has purchased from Sinovac Life Sciences Co Ltd from China.

At the end of April, another lot of 500,000 doses of Sinovac vaccine will arrive. They are a part of the additional vaccines that the GPO has ordered to complement the Ministry of Public Health’s plan to inoculate target groups who are at high risk of contracting Covid-19.
