People in Bangkok are required to wear face masks at all times when out in public - even if they are in their own car.

On Monday, a post on the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Facebook page clarified the requirements for wearing a face mask when out in public.

The post said that the rule regarding face masks also applies to people who are in their own cars with at least one other person, regardless if that other person is a family member.

The BMA said children under 2 years of age are exempt from wearing face masks.

Wearing a face mask is mandatory in all public spaces, both indoor and outdoor, regardless of the distance between people.

Violators face a fine of up to 20,000 baht under the Communicable Disease Act.

As well as in Bangkok face masks are now mandatory in more than 40 Thai provinces.

Headline fails to explain the in car requirement is only if you have a passenger with you.

They are nto requiring people driving alone to wear a mask inside their car, that would be ridiculous.

Subjecting young children to mask wearing is backed by what researched, peer reviewed scientific evidence?

Children will be ripping them off their faces, and are child masks freely available?

So, if I commit a crime not wearing a mask while sitting next to my wife in a car, I guess I deserve death penalty if I indulge in looong and Deeeep French Kiss?

Drive around without a seatbelt... no problem.

An unrestrained children climbing all over the car.... no problem.

But, if your 3 year old strapped into their child seat pulls off their face mask the parent faces a fine of up to 20,000 baht ?

This is defiantly one of those situations where someone has made up an outrageously idiotic law and those around them or subservient to that person have thought for-eff’s-sake thats moronic but can’t say anything because of kraeng-jai....

Thailand is going to be ridiculed internationally for this....

But, I’ll have to remember to put the Mask on when I crash because I can’t see anything out of the windows !!!!! ????

I know for a fact that I'm not alone with this. It is a well documented problem. Yet the powers that be here seem to be completely unaware of it.

Also, as far as I'm concerned, the interior of my car is as much my own personal space as that of my house.

So why my wife and I don't need to wear a mask while we are at home by ourselves. But we need to in the car?

Any difference?

Government, if you are gonna lock-up do it the right way. Maybe follow the Chinese model and stop with ridiculous measures that won't have any impact. And also ramp up those darn vaccinations at once!

100% correct, it is because with aircon your classes get cold and the moisture from your breath or the air inside the car condenses on the glass

This is not rocket science

there really are some very stupid people in power in this country - it is astonishing

Driving in a car without a mask. 20,000 baht fine

Driving in car without a license (which voids any insurance). 1000 baht fine.

Someone definitely needs naming and shaming for stupidity at these astronomical levels....

I suspect this law is going to be ridiculed so strongly on social media that we will soon see a back-pedal... “it was all a misunderstanding” !!!!

I am suspecting this is done to discourage people from going out?

The notice (first page signed from Bangkok Gov) shown on above link at https://www.facebook.com/prbangkok/photos/pcb.3432734103492853/3432734053492858/

does not mention vehicles at all?

I'd suggest having a sign in Thai on the dashboard explaining the driver and passengers are all COVID-positive, and are heading to the nearest hospital.

First the government allows travel from hotspots during Songkhran against medical advice. Then it wants more than one person in a car to wear masks. Said masks would be quite ineffective if one of the people were to be infectious in such close proximity, they would need something capable of filtering out 125 nm particles.

Stupidity squared, I'm wondering when the cubic function comes in.

Does this also apply to hi-so's and/or politicians in BMW's / pink Bentleys / Mercs / Lamborghinis / Porsches?
