  • Stay calm folks, and remember, this is not a lockdown.  ????

  • And how many cases will be caused by people queuing at Government offices to get permits to leave?   Trying to fight a virus with bureaucracy is like trying to fight a fire by throwing paper

  • Yes - you can check in, but you can never leave.   If entry to Chonburi in uncontrolled, but exit is restricted, then eventually everyone will be stuck in Chonburi.  It's like a black hole .

Gyms are generally populated by healthy young  people, and the over 50 crew are in damn good shape. Both groups benefit from interaction with the like minded. Not to mention that  babes serve as training motivators. In short, gyms are full of people whose immune systems effectively fight off the virus.*

Replying to original post:

Here was my experience the last time they did this (January).

We needed to drive from Rayong to Roi Et (long drive).

We went to Police station in Rayong to get a travel permit. It was busy, but they had an outdoor waiting area.

It took the Mrs. a long time to fill out a lot of forms. We needed two travel passes, one each.

Altogether we were there an hour.

On the journey (both ways) we were never stopped to show the permit even once.

BUT, arriving in Roi Et, they came to the house and asked for the permit, and took our temp, and told us things to do to be safe (that we already knew).

I think we were supposed to quarantine, but we didn't (my bad). We were there less than a week and staying in the house the whole time would have been almost impossible (we needed to go out for food for example, and beer, 5555).

FWIW that's what I experienced last time. Cheers

A friend posted an announcement about where the checkpoints will be effective this morning, but it's all in Thai. I haven't found an English version yet.

Note these are in Chon Buri. Not Rayong, or Korat, or Roi Et. I have no idea what the other provinces will do or what restrictions they may implement or if they will have checkpoints or what you may need to go through them.

You can download the Google translate app.  It does an OK job of translating this.  Just point your camera phone at the text.

I can go to the shops,

I can order food.

I have TV,

I have books.

Non-issue really, I miss the company of bars, but it won't kill me not to have it for a few weeks.

No pomplem.

...It has already started judging by the number of people at Siamsburis yesterday.

Online shopping with Siamburies is excellent BTW.

Just as last lockdown trains and buses wont let you on with out the letter giving you permission to leave Chonburi and yes expect police checkpoints all across Chonburi stopping people leaving the province without the permission letter. Face it we are all prisoners' in our own province again.

How would they know if it is a genuine letter from your boss?

I, Samporn Luckylucky CEO of Banana and Durian happy trees herby certify that my employee Somchak Tampon has an urgent appointment on 05th May at 14.30 at Luck's nail clipper bar.

Sincerely yours,

Permission is not needed for anyone wishing to travel into the province.

And so it came to pass...
Up ahead in the distance, I saw the Pattaya light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night.
"Relax, " said the night man"we are programmed to receive.
You can check-in any time you like,
But you can never leave! "

I notice we're stopped from travelling out of the province but others allowed to enter the province. Seems like we are the dirty dogs here and everybody else is clean which, as we all know, is not the case.

If you are going to do it properly have a full lock-down with nobody allowed in or out of the province.

Agreed, but each governor is his own provinces ruler and sets his own rules. Ok for money to arrive with visitors, but to let them leave and test positive upon returning home, oh no we can not have that. The old, it must have come from Pattaya and Chonburi crowd would blow a gasket, even if it was brought into the province by them first. I think that by having the rules in place they are hoping travelers stay out. Too late I fear

Only difference, at this stage, is no curfew.

And wait... for the other provinces to follow this insane order...

It's the thai method. Sneaky. To avoid shame... First a governor is doing it.. Then the others feel compelled to follow and even to overdo it... To look good versus central governement...

This method was used for compulsory masks with fine, then "soft curfews" etc. It's pathetic.

Absolutely correct. This most certainly is NOT a lockdown......... and you are very highly unlikely to ever experience one in Thailand.

May as well be, nothing open....

I agree. What we get here is lockdown adjacent.

What next ''Very Dark Red Zones''?

What is the source of this information? I do not see an article in any news publications. Is it confirmed? Seems a bit strange. Isn't Bangkok dark red also?

Ah the different colors of Prayuts and Anutins face when they become upset with the questions asked of them. Very nice chart.

Current wave stemmed from Barflys Party Animals and Government Officials coming into Chonburi from superspreading events in Bangkok. It is essential that lockdown starts with banning people coming INTO Chonburi. They got it right last time with checkpoints preventing an influx and it worked well. Capturing incomers smacks of maintaining income not preventing infection. Now who is on the Committee that decided this?

That's right, no mention of that in any media Furthermore many people are just travelled due to 1st May and many of them entered in Chonburi, do they will stuck in there and so can't return to their homes? When has this order been issued? During last night? So I have to believe that they never sleep .The source please!

Perhaps they want to prevent a situation like in India, where the sky is indeed falling.

India has a very low death rate compared to other countries. It's the MSM blowing it up as usual.

It is not yet clear whether beaches will be allowed to remain open.

Force people inside again where viral loads and the chances of contracting the virus are the highest, and close the outdoor beaches where UV light and fresh air are plentiful and the viral loads and the chance of contracting the virus are the lowest - and then cite "Science!"  Whoever comes up with these restrictions must use the "science" of reading frog entrails and tea leaves.

At least they are hampering the ability of people in Dark-Red-Zones from traveling outside the provinces to infect the uninfected like the government did, purposefully or due to unconscionable negligence, during Songkran  by allowing them to travel throughout Thailand which created this mess in the first place (why doesn't anyone talk about the obvious?).  In addition to having permission to leave, those from Dark-Red-Zones should be tested before being allowed to cross the provincial borders.

Yeah, policy through reading tea leaves pretty much sums it up.  No vaccines except for the privileged and provide the commoners with the herbal remedy "Craet" instead of the more expensive anti-viral reserved for Thailand's special people.  Talk about mismanagement bordering on criminal.  But?  Who cares if the 'little people' die as long as the upper-crust has access to vaccines and top-notch hospitalization.  Commoners get Craet and Covid Concentration Camps and a knee on the neck.
