Moderna vaccine to be available from October

The Thai public have been urged not to wait to get vaccinated using the recently registered Moderna vaccine at private hospitals.

 

A leading doctor has advised them to go down the state route and get free vaccines of the Sinovac (Chinese) or AstraZeneca (produced in Thailand from next month) when it's their turn. 

 

The wait for Moderna in private hospitals is October - and people should get vaccinated as soon as possible.

 

The news comes as reports from a leading private hospital in Bangkok who opened registration for Moderna at 3,500 baht for two jabs promptly removed the channel citing "miscommunication". 

 

Yesterday Thai health minister and DPM Anutin Charnvirakul said that Zuellig Pharma Co Ltd would import Moderna and was able to deal directly with hospitals.

 

But so far details with private hospitals have not been ironed out amid continuing regulatory obstacles. This despite FDA approval for Moderna, reported Daily News. 

 

He said that people should get vaccinated now and promoted the safety and efficacy of Sinovac and AstraZeneca as has been his mantra recently.

 

Dr Phongphat Pathanwanich, deputy at the private hospitals' association, said deals with Zuellig have yet to be finalized and they in fact have no supplies yet.

 

Dr Uachart Kanchanaphitak of Ramkhamhaeng Hospital in Bangkok said that many private hospitals are preparing to make deals with Zuellig for vaccine lots in the tens of thousands up to a million. 

 

But he said that people would need to wait until October. So he urged the public to get vaccinated by state offered vaccines rather than wait as it would be efficacious and quicker.

 

And would help to achieve herd immunity sooner. 

 

He said that a third shot of vaccine could be Moderna later. It wouldn't matter if it was a different brand.

Of course they are going to say that so they dont end up with a huge bill for stuff no one really wants and its stuck on the shelf! because something better is available.

Moderna to flow like wine, while sinovac gets flushed down the drains and money is lost while money is gainef.

Whilst the October vaccine sounds good today. I reckon the Christmas-New Years Vaccine batch will be even better. They really need a good half year aging to fully develop. Thankfully the Government understands this and has acted in the nations & expats behalf.

Haven't earlier articles been saying the Moderna shot would be 3000 baht for the two of them? Already added another 500 out of nowhere?

Western Vaccine manufactures have made it very clear they will only sell directly to governments so what are they on about?
Will it all depend if they are willing to donate to their Biscuit Tin Early Retirement Fund? Until then it's gonna be the non "Who" approved "Sinovac jab".
Pfizer already made it clear they are ready to deliver to Thailand but instead they order the more expensive Sinovac vaccine which no one wants.
Madness at it's best. Don't worry Expats you will be able to get your Sinovac Vaccine soon because no Thai's want it.

Anutin stated that there would no delays although it was not sure when the vaccine would come. Now they have said October so October it will be.. But what I don't understand is that the private hospitals wrote that 2 jabs would be no more than 3.000 THB, and now suddenly the government interfere and the will cost 4.500 THB.. Why are the private hospitals not uniting and tell the Government that they dont want to higher price, because it will go in the pockets of Mr Anutin and Prayuth for sure

It doesn't matter if they give it for free or not, they will not lose money if people choose to pay for another as they have bought it already. In fact, they will save money as they won't need to buy so many vaccines. They are thinking about the health of the country, not money.

One point, if they don't have to buy as many vaccines then they will not get their commissions, they way government workers can afford their fancy new BMWs.

Possibly, I would suggest its of no consequence as those "commissions" have already been received and what happens after is no consequence, in fact switching in another direction probably presents a fresh commision/opportunity. ?

Gotta make sure that locally manufactured AZ and CP sponsored Sinovac get the lions share before opening up for private hospital sponsored alternatives.  Monopolies loath competition.

Lying to the public is an art form within governmental institutions. 
There is no downside as the government is incapable of sanctioning itself.
Only the public can hold the government to task, and at the wrong end of the guns there is not much hope for that.  Protest government corruption and malfeasance and get beaten, water-cannoned, or shot.  Not just Thailand, but world-wide.

my wife works for an NGO and consequently has good contacts at a number of hospitals.

She was recently  told by the director of a large private hospital (in Bangkok) that some Moderna vaccine was already in Thailand. However everyone was under strict orders to do nothing until they get the nod from the Government.

A long time friend who works at the Air Force hospital said she personally knows of people (maybe 2) who have had been vaccinated with Pfizer.  This was one month ago.

Always asking about money. How much you earn, where you live, how much pocket money the other girls get etc;

 

Family, money, dogs, buffalos, iPhone, car, sticky rice. At the end of the list....khun farang... which is often needed to fund the above.
